Rogers Executive Airport Announces New Branding

he Rogers Executive Airport is embracing its longtime offerings with a new name and a promising future that relishes all facets of aviation. Previously known as the Rogers Municipal Airport, the new name and logo were selected earlier this year to better reflect the higher level of facilities, services, and amenities the Airport now offers, David

Krutsch, Airport Manager, told the Chamber Voice.

Clyde Tempel, a longtime member of the Rogers Airport Commission, is also pleased with the new branding concept. “We wanted to draw attention to the fact that we are located in the center of the nation,” Tempel said. “We’re the front door to the world because some of the biggest companies in the world are right here.”

“The advantages offered by the Rogers Executive Airport are not limited to our business aviation customers,” said Ray Hobbs, Airport Commission Chairman. Tourism and recreational flying are growing market segments. “We are convenient to numerous business interests including the Walmart Corporate Headquarters, as well as popular area attractions and recreation destinations, such as the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Walmart AMP (Arkansas Music Pavilion), Downtown Rogers, Beaver Lake, and regional sports venues,” Hobbs added. According to Rogers Executive Airport officials, an estimated 50,000 - 75,000 business and leisure travelers pass through the airport annually.

Airport’s History Shaping Its Future

Tempel and Krutsch point to the airport’s past for setting up a good flight plan for its future.

For over 60 years, the Rogers Airport has played an important role in the economic development of the region.

The Airport helped support the growth of the area’s poultry industry in the late 1940’s. From what was then a grass strip, the first weekly air shipment of broilers arrived in November, 1949, and within three years, some 20 million broilers were transported via the airport. The runway was paved in 1958 and expansion of the once small strip continues today. Much of the airport’s infrastructure has been reconstructed or substantially improved over the past decade. “The Rogers Executive Airport is primed for growth and well positioned to meet the aviation needs of the region”, said Krutsch.

rvest First Leadership, developed in 1996, is an effort to invest in the future of our community, by providing a student-focused program of innovative strategies to promote participant growth and leadership opportunities. Each year high school sophomores and juniors who reside within the Rogers Public School District are encouraged to apply for the 8-month community based leadership program.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Arvest, 20 students are selected each year to experience the community in a whole new light. To date, 380 students have graduated from the program. During the year students learn more about themselves through teambuilding and leadership development; they learn more about the community through sessions focused on human services and economic development; and they are given tools to think about their future through local college tours and discussions on personal finance.

What is the Small Business Council? | Call for 2016 Applications

T

he Small Business Council (SBC) of the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce was formed in 2005. It is made up of volunteers who either own their own business or work for small businesses in the area. The purpose of the Small Business Council (SBC) is to be the voice of the small business community and provide guidance to Chamber staff on the needs of the small business community within Northwest Arkansas. The SBC’s mission statement is: Promoting sustainable

growth for small business through awareness, diversity, and education.

The twenty member council meets on the first Thursday of each month to talk about the needs of the small business community, nominate and select a small business of the month and small business of the year, develop business education programming for Chamber University, and discuss and help implement small business programs for the Chamber. Members also help facilitate and run the bi-monthly Member Orien-

tations held at the Chamber offices. This gives the SBC opportunities to get to know new members and help share the vision of the Chamber.

Those wishing to serve on the SBC must complete an application and be approved by a combination of Chamber staff and the executive committee of the SBC. The term of service starts in January 2016 and goes through December. The Most Powerful Little Committee (That You’ve Never Heard Of)

D

uring a recent trip to Little Rock earlier this summer, I attended several legislative committee meetings and wrote the title of this article in the margin of my notes. I was listening to the second-ever meeting of the Administrative Rules and Regulations Subcommittee of the Arkansas Legislative Council. That’s a big name for a new subcommittee that now has a lot to say about how Arkansas state government affects you and your business.

“The Administrative Rules and Regs Committee”, as it is now commonly known within the walls of the Capitol, was actually created by you, the voting public.

In the 2013 legislative session, the legislature referred three amendments to be placed on the ballot for consideration in the 2014 election.

Proposed Issue Number 1 of the 2014 election passed with almost 60 percent approval of the voters last year. It may have looked like it authorized just an extra step in the rulemaking process, but it could be a slippery step if you are not paying attention.

What did you actually approve with this ballot measure granting new legislative authority? What does this truly mean for your business in Benton County and rapidly growing Northwest Arkansas? It means a lot, and here’s what you should be aware of when this new subcommittee begins to meet regularly.

Before passage of Issue No. 1 last year, when a state agency, board, or commission passed an admin-

istrative rule, regulation, or policy that drew attention from legislators, agency directors could possibly be questioned by various committees or by the Legislative Council. Members could call agency directors on the carpet before a committee over policy disagreements, but they really had no constitutional authority to deny rules or policies from being implemented by an executive agency or commission if the legislature had previously granted that authority to the agency or commission. After passage of Issue No. 1, legislators now have the authority to deny policies and rules passed by agencies of the executive branch.

Business leaders statewide have traditionally relied on established relationships, and were already familiar with the governor, agency directors, and governor-appointed commission members, who regulated their industries and businesses. Passage of Issue No. 1 last year placed an enormous amount of power in the hands of the legislative branch.

This brings me to the overall point I want to make with this submission. No one in Arkansas will argue the fact that currently the most productive economic engine and region of the state are Benton and Washington Counties in Northwest Arkansas. This is very important, because as it stands now, there is only one state senator and no state representative from these two counties serving on this very important subcommittee, which will only grow to be even more powerful as time passes.

When it comes to the business of Northwest Arkansas, this is the one committee in Little Rock on which we really need to be well represented. Remind the current legislators, and want-to-be legislators, as they approach you for your support in this election season, that representation on this subcommittee for Northwest Arkansas is vitally important to you and essential to the continued growth of our region.

T

he Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome these individuals who will serve 3 year terms through 2018 on the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is the policymaking body of the Chamber, and its members represent a crosssection of the business and professional leadership in the community.

Keri Earwood

Owner, Shelter Insurance – Keri Earwood Insurance Agency, LLC

mons First National Bank, he held the Executive Vice President role with Dumas State Bank (from 1983 to 1995) until its acquisition by Simmons First National Bank in 1995 when he was promoted to President and CEO. He transferred to Northwest Arkansas in 2001 as the Executive Vice President and was promoted to his current position in April 2012.

He is a graduate of Dumas High School (1979), the University of Arkansas - Monticello (BS Accounting, 1983), the National Commercial Lending School (1985) and the Bank School of the South - LSU, 1990). Mr. Ferguson lives in Rogers with his wife, Rachel, a teacher at TG Smith Elementary in Springdale. He has a son and daughter-in-law, Lance and Laine, a daughter, Ashley, and a granddaughter, Katherine Grace. He and his family attend First Baptist Church of Rogers.

Dennis has a passion for community involvement. He currently serves as Chairman for the Rogers Planning Commission, serves on the Rogers Board of Adjustments, and is a current member of Rogers Noon Rotary. He is a former board member of CASA of NWA and Junior Achievement of NWA and has been involved with United Way, the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce and other community and school organizations. In Dumas, he served as President of the Dumas Chamber of Commerce, Dumas Lions Club and the Walnut Lake Country Club.

Dennis enjoys anything Razorbacks, kayaking/canoeing, hunting, golf and the outdoors of Northwest Arkansas.

Keri Ear wood has 14 years of insurance experience that began while she attended Southwest Baptist University.

She graduated SBU with a BS in Business Administration in December 2003. She moved to NWA in 2004 and was hired

by Shelter Insurance in 2007.

Keri is a multi-line agent that currently has an AR, MO, OK, and TN multi-line license and an AR Health Exchange license.

Keri enjoys serving the Rogers community through the Rogers Lions Club. She joined the Lions in 2008 and received Lion of the Year in 2009. Keri served on the club’s board 3 years before serving as club President for 2 years. She currently serves as Co-Chairman on the club’s Sight Committee, where she works with school nurses and other community organizations to help student and residents receive eye exams and glasses. She and her husband of 10 years, Bill, are Directors of a Sunday morning Life Group at First Baptist Church of Rogers. For 3 of her last 10 years of attendance, Keri can be spotted greeting FBC guests and members in the front Jon Harrell lobby and helping in the nursery on occasion.

Jeff Milford

Manager of External Affairs, SWEPCO Fayetteville District

As Manager of External Affairs, Milford oversees local community relations, governmental affairs, and regional economic development for SWEPCO. Milford previously held the position of Supervisor Customer Design in Fayetteville, heading the group of distribution system engineers in the Fayetteville District. A 16-year employee, Milford joined the company as an Industrial Marketing Engineer and was a Sr. Industrial Marketing Engineer in the company’s General Office in Shreveport. During his career he has served as Division Marketing Manager in Fayetteville and Manager of Commercial and Industrial Marketing in Tulsa.

A native of Shelbyville, Texas, Milford earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station.

He is a graduate of the LSU Management Training Program. He has been an officer of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Active in the community, Milford has held several positions within committees of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the Stewardship Committee of First Baptist Church of Fayetteville where he also has been an adult Sunday School teacher. Milford has two children.

David Roth

President, WorkMatters, Inc.

David M. Roth became president of WorkMatters, Inc. in October, 2003. WorkMatters is a national non-profit organization founded in Northwest Arkansas focused on equipping leaders to close the gap between faith and work.

Prior to leading WorkMatters, Mr. Roth was vice president, sales and marketing for J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. Prior to joining J.B. Hunt in 1999, David was senior vice president, marketing for Manugistics, a supply chain management software provider in Maryland and

vice president, marketing for American Software in Atlanta, GA. He also has 9 years of supply chain management experience with McKesson Corporation in San Francisco, CA and Harrison, AR. David has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from University of Arkansas and is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Institute in Palo Alto, CA. Mr. Roth resides in Fayetteville, AR with his wife, Theresa and their 2 sons, Dylan and Tyler. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Central United Methodist Church.

Tina Winham

Tina Winham is a true servant leader whose mission in life is to empower women and children to reach their potential. She has a proven track record of success in helping people and organizations increase performance and advance organizational development and effectiveness.

She has an extensive background that includes senior leadership positions in private and nonprofit organizations. Throughout these successful tenures she has been instrumental in helping launch significant projects, lead large teams and key initiatives related to diversity and inclusion, mentorship, leadership development, social learning, community engagement and public relations.

In 2011, she was recognized by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal as one of the forty under 40 top business leaders and was most recently profiled in Celebrate Magazine

as a northwest Arkansas “hidden treasure”. Her warmth and captivating personality helps her develop strong partnerships that help her successfully execute everything she is involved in.

Her passion for serving others has led her to

serve in leadership positions of nonprofit boards and advisory councils in the Northwest Arkansans region. Tina is a long time resident of Northwest Arkansas and currently resides in Rogers, with her husband Jeff and their daughter Lexy.
