a collision of horizons
for orchestra
program note
“Love is the impossible, and it does not arrive, or arrives only at the limit, while crossing.”
-Jean-Luc Nancy, Shattered Love
a collision of horizons is a piece about the arduous journey of love, the rollercoaster of emotions that brings two people together into a greater unity. This piece presents a variety of different sonic worlds in succession, allowing their materials to blur and bleed into one another as they attempt to amalgamate and construct relations between each other. The process of the piece is one of accrual, of the gradual connecting of resonant gestures into larger structural devices, allowing the work to move swiftly from an origin of disorientation and confusion to a jubilant surety. a collision of horizons is dedicated to Dennis Huang.
