01 : THE LILIUM
A LEARNING HUB ABOVE THE WATER NESTLED AT PUNGOL WATERWAY PARK
INSPIRED BY THE INGENIOUS STRUCTURE OF THE HUMBLE LILYPAD, THE LILIUM TRANSLATES NATURE’S ELEGANT DESIGN INTO A TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. IT’S MORE THAN JUST BIOMIMICRY, THE LILIUM CAPTURES THE ESSENCE OF THE LILYPAD’S FORM TO CREATE A SPACE WHERE STUDENTS CAN DEEPLY EXPLORE AND ENGAGE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY LITERACY, FOSTERING A CONNECTION TO THE NATURAL WORLD THROUGH ITS VERY DESIGN. THIS BIOMIMETIC APPROACH OFFERS SEVERAL KEY BENEFITS. IT PROVIDES A TANGIBLE LINK TO NATURE, MAKING ABSTRACT ECOLOGICAL CONCEPTS MORE ACCESSIBLE AND RELATABLE, IT ENCOURAGES A DEEPER APPRECIATION FOR THE NATURAL WORLD’S INGENUITY, INSPIRING INNOVATION AND PROBLEM-SOLVING; AND IT CREATES A UNIQUE AND MEMORABLE LEARNING EXPERIENCE, POTENTIALLY INCREASING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND RETENTION OF INFORMATION RELATED TO SUSTAINABILITY.

THE LILIUM ISN’T MERELY A BUILDING, IT’S ENVISIONED AS A VIBRANT ECOSYSTEM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AND SUSTAINABILITY LITERACY, SERVING AS A CENTRAL HUB FOR STUDENTS FROM SURROUNDING SCHOOLS. ITS ARCHITECTURE TRANSCENDS CONVENTIONAL AESTHETICS, EMBODYING THE VERY PRINCIPLE OF ADAPTATION THROUGH ITS DIVERSE FACILITIES.
THESE SPACES OFFER STUDENTS UNCONVENTIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES THAT EXTEND FAR BEYOND THE BUILDING’S WALLS. INSIDE, A METICULOUSLY CRAFTED ENVIRONMENT FOSTERS INSPIRATION AND ELEVATES THE LEARNING PROCESS, FEATURING COLLABORATIVE ZONES AND IMMERSIVE SETTINGS
DESIGNED TO IGNITE CURIOSITY AND DEEPEN ENGAGEMENT WITH CRUCIAL ECOLOGICAL CONCEPTS.

DESIGNING AROUND THE WATER ALLOWS FOR NATURAL COOLING AND VENTILATION OF THE ENTIRE BUILDING. PASSIVE COOLING STRATEGIES SUCH AS STRATEGIC OPENINGS AND LARGE ENTRANCES HELP TO DIRECT WIND DIRECTION NATURALLY, REDUCING THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF BUILDING.

GEOMETRICAL INTERIOR DESIGN WITH LARGE OPENINGS
I APPROACH THE PROJECT WITH AN INTENTION OF CREATING NON CONVENTIONAL LEARNING SPACES BY LIMITING PARTITIONING WALLKS, AND DOUBLING THE VOLUME HEIGHT OF THE SPACES TO PROMOTE CREATIVE THINKING AND COLLABORATION. THE UYSE OF FLOOR TO CEILING HEIGHT WINDOWS ALLOW FOR A PANORAMIC VIEW OF THE GREEEN SPACE BELOW.
USING NATURAL MATERIALS LIKE TIMBER BRINGS NATURE CLOSER TO THE USERS, ALLOWING FOR A CONTRAST AGAINST THE ANGULAR AND GEOMETRIC SHAPE OF THE BUILDING. THIS ALLOWS FOR BALANCE AND HARMONY IN TH SPACES THAT DO NOT HAVE MUCH GREENERY.
FLEXIBLE SPACES FOR LEARNING


BOTTOM OPENING IN THE CENTRAL COURTYARD ALLOWS FOR RIVER TO FLOW UNDER THE BUILDING. THIS ALLOWS FOR A REFRESHING ATMOSPHERE AS THE INTERNAL TEMPERATURE CAN GET REGULATED MORE EFFICIENTLY.
ADDITIONALLY, LARGE OPENINGS ACCESSING THE RIVER ALLOWS FOR A SENSE OF TRANQUILITY AND BALANCE AS IT CREATES A CONTRAST AGAINST THE LARGE TIMBER SRUCTURE. THE GREENRY ADDS ON TO THE ATMOPSHERE AND CREATES COHESIVNESS TO THE MAIN COURTYARD.
THE CURTAINS OF GREENERY ALLOW VISUAL AID AS THE BUILDING IS USED AS AN EDUCATIONAL HUB. THIS ALLOWS FOR A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE AND AS A GREEN SHIELD AGAINST THE SUN ON THE SECOND FLOOR.

THE SANCTUARY AIMS TO REVITALISE DHOBY GHAUTS SOCIAL LANSCAPE FOR YOUTHS.
THE SANCTUARY AIMS TO REVITALISE DHOBY GHAUTS SOCIAL LANSCAPE FOR YOUTHS. THE YOUTH HUB IS DESIGNED TO INSPIRE AND UPLIFT YOUNG MINDS THROUGH THE EXCHANGE OF SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE. NESTLED WITHIN THE FUSION OF TROPICAL AND CATHEDRAL ARCHITECTURE, THE SANCTUARY STANDS AS A SYMBOL OF UNITY, GROWTH, AND SHARED ASPIRATIONS.
THE TROPICAL ELEMENTS OF THE SANCTUARY CREATE AN INVITING ATMOSPHERE, WITH OPEN SPACES AND NATURAL SURROUNDINGS FACILITATING COLLABORATION AND CONNECTION. AS YOUNG INDIVIDUALS ENTER, THEY ARE GREETED BY THE GRANDEUR OF CATHEDRAL-INSPIRED ARCHES, HIGH CEILINGS, AND STAINED GLASS WINDOWS, IMPARTING A SENSE OF REVERENCE FOR THE PURSUIT OF WISDOM.
WITHIN THE SANCTUARY, VIBRANT SPACES ARE DEDICATED TO SKILL-SHARING, MENTORSHIP PROGRAMS, AND INTERACTIVE WORKSHOPS. THE BLENDING OF TROPICAL AND CATHEDRAL DESIGN ELEMENTS SERVES AS A REMINDER THAT INNOVATION CAN THRIVE WHEN ROOTED IN THE RICH SOIL OF TRADITION. THE SANCTUARY BECOMES A SACRED SPACE FOR THE EXCHANGE OF SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE, WHERE YOUTH CAN CULTIVATE THEIR POTENTIAL AND COLLECTIVELY SHAPE A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

INSPIRED BY THE CALDWELL ORPHANAGE MISSION TO UPLIFT YOUTHS REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND, WE AIM TO REVITALISE DHOBY GHAUT SOCIAL LANDSCAPE BY FOSTERING NON ACADEMIC SKILLS INTO YOUTHS, ENCOURAGING MEANS OF SELF EXPRESSION AS A WAY OF MENTAL WELLNESS.
THE AIMS OF MY YOUTH HUB IS TO UPLIFT YOUTHS BY FOSTERING NON ACADEMIC SKILLS IN YOUTHS , ENCOURAGING MEANS OF SELF EXPRESSION.
YOUTH WELLNESS CENTER THAT NURTURES AND ENCOURAGES SKILL BASED EDUCATION YOUTHS INTEREST, AND CREATE SPACES FOR THEM TO HONE THESE SKILLS.


LOOKING AT THE CONFIGURATION OF THE CHAPEL, AND COMBINING TROPICAL ARCHITECTURE TO COOL AND SHADE THE BUILDING, AND RETAINING THE ESSENCE OF CADWELL HOUSE.
“BORROW’ FEATURES THAT CAN BE IMPLEMENTED SUCH AS BIG OPEN SPACES FOR AIR FLOW AND GRANDEUR , STRATEGIC SKYLIGHTS AND ELEVATED PLATFORM FOR ACTIVITIES





THE SANCTURARY TAKES ON AN INCREDIBLY FORMAL AND LINEAR EXPRESSION TO GUIDE THE VISITORS INTO THE MAIN CENTRAL GARDEN. THIS IS TO CREATE A SENSE OF MOVEMENT , REFLECTING ITS USE AS A MULTIPURPOSE HUB, AND ALLOWS THE VISITORS TO EXPERIENCE THE DIFFERENT SPACES WITHIN.

THE DESIGN IN HEAVILY INSPIRED BY TRADITIONAL JAPANESE ONSEN DESIGNS. IT ADD A TRADITIONAL TOUCH INTO THE MODERN AREA, ALLOWING FOR RELAXATION AND A UNIQUE EPEREINCE AT SEMBAWANG HOT SPRINGS.

DURING THE COMPETITION, MY TEAM AND I, WORKED TOGETHER TO CREATE A SITE MODEL WITH THE NARRATIVE OF “REAWAKENING THE ESPLANADE TO COMMUNE WITH NATURE”
OUR CONCEPT AIMS TO FUSE ART AND NATURE IN A WAY THAT REBIRTHS THE LANDSCAPE WHILE CREATING A SANCTUARY TO HEAL FATIGUED MINDS AND STIMULATE THEM USING ARTISTRY AND NATURE.

Y3 INDUSTRY PROJECT TASKED TO PROPOSE NEW DESIGN LAYOUT TO EXSISTING FACILITIES OF HUA YI SECONDARY SCHOOL. A GROUP PROJECT CONSISTING OF 6 OTHER MEMBERS, WE WERE ASSIGNED TO DIFFERENT FACILITIES OF THE SCHOOL IN GROUPS OF TWO.
I WAS TASKED TO CREATE A MODERN YET WELCOMING DESIGN TO THELIBRARY. ALL CAD DRAWINGS AND 3D MODELS WERE DRAWN AND MODELED BY ME.
