Each year, 14 million people are displaced as a result of natural disasters around the world. This is happening because global warming and climate change are increasing the frequency and severity of natural disasters around the world. Those affected by these events are forced to relocate, abandoning not only their physical belongings, but their sense of home, security and community as well. Climate refugees often relocate to urban centers as they generally provide the best economic opportunity and have an increased capability to absorb communities and provide relief.
This thesis explores utilizing the urban fabric of Orlando, Florida to provide community shelters for those displaced.
