“There aren't a lot of people locally in Dubuque doing strategic advising for businesses. There are tons of consultants and strategy advisors all over the country, but there are very few of us in this area who know the market, know the businesses, know how things work here,” Ali says. From October 2020-March 2021, Ali consulted Hillcrest Family Services in Dubuque on the healthcare organization’s strategic plan, priorities, restructuring of leadership, process improvement, program sustainability and innovation. Hillcrest President/CEO Mike Fidgeon joined the organization in the midst of the pandemic in 2020. Thinking about the strategic plan, direction and priorities of Hillcrest into the future were among his first considerations. He envisioned innovative and contemporary health services delivery for clients in the community, bringing care to where people are and, at the same time, continuing Hillcrest’s excellent facility-based care. “Working with Ali, we developed new strategic priorities for Hillcrest Family Services while focusing on three major dimensions—People, Process and Programs,” Mike says. “We developed a three-year strategic plan.” Recruitment and retention of employee talent remains a challenge. “Retention is an issue, locally and nationwide right now, but especially in healthcare. In the consulting process, with Ali and her team’s support, we made great strides to continue improving our organizational culture and morale,” he said.
