About Niagara College

Established in 1967, Niagara College (NC) has grown to become a leading global college and one of Canada’s most enterprising postsecondary institutions. With a mission to provide outstanding applied education and training for a changing world, and through strategic areas of focus, the College is dedicated to offering a wholistic student experience, academic excellence, global reach, alumni and partner engagement, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and organizational excellence.

In Niagara and Around the World

Currently, more than 10,000 students study in 120+ programs based at specialized campuses in the Niagara region. Leveraging its expertise in program development and delivery, NC has campuses, projects and partnerships around the world, while drawing students from more than 95 countries to its Niagara-based campuses each year. In addition to its two Niagara campuses, NC operates campuses in Toronto and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Schools of Study

The Welland Campus, set on 100 acres (404,686 square meters) of green space, is home to NC’s schools of Technology, Trades, Nursing and Personal Support Work (PSW), Allied Health, Justice and Fitness and more. It houses an open-to-public dental clinic, Performance physiotherapy and occupational therapy clinic, massage clinic, the NC Teaching Hair Salon, and a hub for advanced manufacturing research.

As one of Canada’s leading global colleges, NC was recognized by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) in 2024 with a silver Award in Applied Research and Innovation and, in 2022, with a bronze in Global Citizenship. NC was also recognized nationally by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) in 2022 with a silver Award of Excellence in Global Engagement.

Unique learning enterprises on campus, include Canada’s first Teaching Winery, Teaching Brewery, Teaching Distillery and Teaching Greenhouse – which are ‘living labs’ for students and support student learning. The campus is a hub for research with innovation centres for horticultural and environmental sciences, food and beverage, and business and commercialization. Located on the base of the Niagara Escarpment, the campus includes 15 acres (60,703 square meters) of student-restored wetlands, an apiary and more.

Research and Innovation

The Research and Innovation division of Niagara College provides real-world solutions for business, key industry sectors, and the community through applied research and knowledge transfer activities. The division conducts projects that provide innovative solutions, such as producing and testing prototypes, evaluating new technologies, and developing new or improved products or processes for small- and medium-sized businesses. With funding support from various regional, provincial, and federal agencies, students and graduates are hired to work alongside faculty researchers to assist industry partners leap forward in the marketplace.

The Research and Innovation division has five Innovation Centres in the areas of advanced manufacturing, business and commercialization, food and beverage, healthy aging and wellness, and horticultural and environmental sciences.

For the second year in a row, Niagara College has secured the No. 1 ranking for colleges in Canada for research funding, according to a special report released on December 5, 2024. This is the tenth year in a row NC has been in the top 10.

In its publication Canada’s Innovation Leaders, Research Infosource Inc. announced the rankings under the banner of “Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges,” based on total research funding numbers for 2023.

Over the past five years, NC was involved in projects in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, and Chile as part of the Pacific Alliance Education (PA) for Employment program, a global development investment managed by CICan and funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada. NC collaborated with institutions in Latin America to provide training and support for creating and implementing applied research centres to advance their innovation agendas.

Work-Ready and World-Ready Graduates

With a growing alumni community, which surpasses 120,000, NC graduates are succeeding and leading around the world. Thanks to NC’s academic excellence and its industry-driven, passionate faculty, global learners have access to some of the best applied learning in the world.

According to the 2022-2023 provincial Key Performance Indicator (KPI) results, 89.4% of recent NC graduates were employed within six months of graduation. Also, 90% employers are satisfied with NC graduates they employ.
