Niagara College offers more than 130 diploma, degree, and advanced-level programs, as well as more than 600 credit, vocational, and general interest Part-Time Studies courses.

Niagara College’s new bold strategic plan identifies clear, connected areas of focus for the next five years: a wholistic student experience; academic excellence; global reach; alumni and partner engagement; social inclusion and environmental sustainability; and operational excellence.

On June 17, 2022 the College was recognized by the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) with a bronze award in the category of Global Citizenship. The WFCP’s 2022 Awards of Excellence were presented at its World Congress in San Sebastian, Spain. The awards recognize WFCP member institutions and celebrate their contributions to excellence in the global technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector.

The college’s trades programs are taught by expert faculty in spacious lab facilities with modern equipment, enabling students to gain hands-on, applied learning experiences. Students can further their industry experience in areas such as carpentry, automotive, electrical, hairstyling, machining, welding, and fabrication by connecting with industry leaders and gaining practical experience via co-op opportunities and apply for additional industry-recognized certifications post-graduation.

Toronto School of Management (TSoM) through a partnership agreement with Niagara College (NC). NCT offers select NC programs, providing high standards of instruction and student services. Students that study at the NCT campus will receive an NC credential upon graduating. The NCT Campus is currently located within the Education House Toronto at 22 College Street, and it is expected to relocate to its new permanent home in the city-renowned community of Mirvish Village in Winter 2023. › NCT had the great pleasure to recognize the achievements of its students with the College’s second convocation ceremony on November 2nd, 2022, at Meridian Hall in Toronto. Both the November 2nd convocation and the first-ever NCT convocation on June 28th, 2022 brought together three different graduate certificate programs: Human Resources Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and International Business Management, and recognized over 550 graduating students. In partnership with Colleges of Excellence (CoE) and ARAMCO’s training academies, Niagara College has delivered TVET programming to over 10,000 graduates across eight campus locations.

› We currently deliver programming in Makkah, Riyadh and Dammam in partnership with CoE and ARAMCO to over 1500 students this year. Over 98% of our students are female, pursuing non-traditional female careers in KSA such as: Electrical, HVAC Technician, Chemical Engineering Technician, Health and Safety and Supply Chain Management.

Modern, flexible, technology-enabled teaching and learning spaces are critical elements of student success. To support growth, enhance the student experience and expand research and innovation capabilities, Niagara College opened new, expanded, and renovated facilities, including:

Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake › The new agri-yard development, which includes a fenced compound and hoop houses, completed in Spring 2022 will be the home of the Horticulture Technician program. Students will use this area as part of the outdoor living lab. The site features a small tree nursery, hoop houses for nursery production class, and a fenced yard to demonstrate landscape techniques. › The Daniel J. Patterson Campus will soon be home to a new greenhouse servicing the 146-acre campus. The current greenhouse is in the heart of Canada’s expanding greenhouse industry and serves as a living lab for students, including Ontario’s largest training greenhouse, container and field nursery operations, and on-site greenhouse equipment.

Welland Campus › In fall of 2021, Niagara College launched its first Massage Therapy advanced diploma. Students will enjoy the newly renovated Massage Therapy Lab. The program will equip students with the knowledge and skills to provide safe, competent, and ethical care at an entry-level of practice within the massage therapy profession. › The Welland Campus has been undergoing an expansion of the current Nursing Lab to the critical need for more health-care workers. The College expanded enrolment for Practical Nursing in the Fall 2021 term and NC’s Applied Health Institute ramped up operations to seven days a week to accommodate an increase in students. Land acknowledgement Niagara College acknowledges the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples, many of whom continue to live and work here today. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous peoples.

Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) NC has a number of equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives including: › NC’s Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce – a collaboration with the Niagara College Student Administrative Council – had its final meeting in June 2022. The work of the students, staff, and faculty on the D&I Taskforce paved the way for the action items related to Social Inclusion and Sustainability in the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan. Research & Innovation (R&I) › For the seventh year in a row, Niagara College has earned the honour of being in the top 10 colleges in the country for research funding. › Niagara College researchers welcomed the news of a $4.43-million investment from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). On April 5th 2022, NSERC’s College and Community Innovation (CCI) program announced three new Applied Research and Technology Partnership (ARTP) funding grants for NC. Funds included an ARTP grant to support an NC project in sustainable cannabis and hemp production research, as well as two multiinstitutional ARTP grants for NC-led projects: to support craft breweries in Canada, and to expand the Southern Ontario Network for Advanced Manufacturing Innovation (SONAMI).

NC has three industry-leading Innovation Centres including:

› NC's Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre which specializes in engineering design, 3D technologies, lean manufacturing processes and additive manufacturing;

› The Food & Beverage Innovation Centre which offers a full suite of services to support industry innovation and commercialization of new products and processes; and

NC Supports Ukraine In response to the tragic events in Ukraine, NC established a number of support initiatives including partnering with a number of Ontario colleges to make a joint donation of $200,000 to UNICEF’s Ukraine emergency fund and the expansion of NC’s Global Emergency Relief fund, which provides scholarships and bursaries to students impacted by global circumstances. Sustainability at Niagara College Niagara College’s sustainability advocates were among those blazing a new trail towards a sustainable future at the Niagara Region’s first-ever Climate Change Summit. Learn more at niagaracollege.ca/climatechange At Niagara College sustainability means providing high-quality applied education and training that meets the needs of students, employees, and the community in which we operate today, while protecting and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future.

In the fall of 2021, the college launched the Sustainability Ambassador Program (SAP) providing students from a variety of academic backgrounds with opportunities for sustainable leadership on campus and in the broader Niagara community.

This program was recently awarded the 2022 President’s Award for Innovation in Student Learning and Success for providing students with the sustainability knowledge and tools they need to be leaders today and for years to come.

This spring, volunteers planted 43 Pawpaw trees in the wetlands area at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus, thanks to support from the Sustainability Action Fund Micro-grant program. New initiatives such as the Seed Orchard project have been made possible through significant community donations, including a $16,3652.60 donation from H&M of St. Catharines towards green-space restoration at Niagara College and a $6,000 grant NC received from WWF-Canada to support the project.

Humanitarian Service Medallions Niagara College’s Teaching Distillery was proud to receive COVID-19 Pandemic Humanitarian Service medallions from St. John Ambulance.

The Teaching Distillery began producing sanitizer in March 2020, to help meet the overwhelming demand for the product during the onset of the pandemic. Overall, the Teaching Distillery produced and donated 1,700 bottles of sanitizer during the pandemic. Read more at niagaracollege.ca/distilleryaward
