Your connection to the Centre extends beyond your child’s visits with their therapists. We offer a full catalogue of FREE events for children, youth, and their families to receive information, education, support as well as opportunities to connect with others with shared experiences.
We also offer opportunities for children and youth to engage in inclusive, accessible recreation activities and skill development in group settings.

WHO CAN SIGN UP FOR OUR EVENTS?
All of the events within this guide are open to all children and youth who are past or current clients (18 years & under) with a physical, developmental, and/or communicative delay or disability as well as their parents/caregivers.
CAN I ATTEND IF I’M NOT A CURRENT/PAST CLIENT?
Yes, as long as your child has a physical, developmental, and/or communicative delay or disability. Please contact our Intake Coordinators to join our community: 905-688-1890 ext. 110. We will collect a bit of info from you to enable you to register for events, including medical information regarding your child to ensure a safe experience during our events.

P.D. DAY PARTIES!
BOWLING
Strike up some fun this P.D. Day with a morning of bowling at Parkway Social! Connect with other Centre families, cheer each other on and enjoy an activity that’s fun and accessible for everyone! Ramps will be available for children who benefit from assistance in propelling the bowling balls.
Please note: Niagara Children’s Centre covers lane and shoe rental costs. Families are responsible for the cost of food and drinks. A parent/caregiver must stay on-site unless pre-arranged.

FAMILY SWIM
Enjoy the pool together as a family! Parents and children — along with siblings — are welcome to splash, practice swimming skills, and play.
Please note: This is not a swim instruction program; children must be accompanied by an adult while they are in the water. Staff are available to support families as needed, but will not be in the water throughout the program.

FAMILY SKATE
Glide into your day by joining us for a fun-filled morning on the ice! Family, friends, and skaters of all experience levels can enjoy this event. All children must wear a helmet. Skate trainers will be available for those who require additional support.
Please note: Wheelchairs are permitted on the ice surface provided they follow the helmet policy. Centre staff and volunteers will be on-site to offer guidance and support (e.g., getting ready, transitioning on/off the ice, motivation to explore the ice surface). Parents and caregivers must stay on the ice with their child unless they have made prearrangements with staff. Families are asked to bring their own skates and helmets as rentals will not be available on-site.

BINGO WITH SUNNY
Dive into a fun night of Bingo hosted by Sunny the River Otter, in a playful, low-pressure environment with themed bingo cards and cool kid-approved prizes! Come for some friendly competition and cheer each other on, all while working on attention and focus, memory and recognition, matching, and simple decision making.

KITCHEN ACADEMY

An engaging space for young chefs to develop practical skills and spark a love for cooking. This hands-on program will involve learning essential kitchen skills, including safety, hygiene, and basic cooking and baking techniques. Through guided activities, participants will practice using various kitchen utensils/appliances, follow recipes, and build confidence in the kitchen.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
PARENT & TOT MOVEMENT AND STRENGTH
Parent & Tot Movement + Strength is a supportive, trauma-informed class for families navigating extra challenges, combining playful movement and sensory activities for tots with accessible strength and conditioning for caregivers. Led by Andrea Page—FITMOM founder and wellness advocate—the class offers gentle fitness, developmentally supportive parent–child interaction, and a warm, judgment-free space to connect and build resilience. It’s open to all parents and caregivers looking to strengthen their bodies, bond with their toddlers, and feel supported.
Please note: This class is designed for both caregivers and their child, but you are more than welcome to come solo as well. Centre staff and volunteers will be present to support participation and keep children engaged while building family wellness. Niagara Children’s Centre will cover the cost.

TOTS & TUNES
An inclusive music group designed for young children to explore sound, rhythm, and movement in a safe, engaging environment. Through songs, simple instruments, and playful props, children and their caregivers will experience the magic of music, sparking connections, communication, creativity, and self-expression in a playful way.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
ROBOTICS CLUB
Whether new to LEGO robotics or experienced, kids will enjoy building and coding a robot each session. This inclusive club encourages participation in any way—directing, selecting pieces, or building with support. The focus is on fun, creativity, and problem-solving!

Calling all young storytellers! This group gives youth an opportunity to explore their creativity, share their opinions, and collaborate on a youth-led newspaper. Together, our reporters will highlight events, achievements, personal stories, and “must-shares” from our Centre and the community. A variety of adapted writing methods will be used to support participation.

SUNNY’S EGGS-TRAVAGANZA

Get ready for a day bursting with colour, excitement, and surprises at Sunny’s Eggs-travaganza! Families are invited to join Sunny the River Otter for an interactive spring celebration designed for all abilities. The morning will be packed with interactive games and activities, including an epic egg gathering adventure leading to a special prize! Register for your preferred timeslot and celebrate the season with this inclusive and engaging adventure made for every child to enjoy!
Please note: Parents and caregivers must stay on-site and support their children throughout the fun-filled activities. The unique event offers a sensory-friendly experience with designated time slots to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable environment. This event is planned to take place outside, but will move indoors if needed due to the weather.

SERVICE SQUAD New & improved!
The squad where youth have the opportunity to learn about volunteering skills and get hands-on experience in volunteering roles! Our team will be on the lookout for programs and events within the Centre and community that are a good fit with participants. Staff will organize practice sessions (as needed) and support the participants at the program/event.

The Centre has its own indoor, accessible, heated, saltwater pool!
To indicate interest in family swims, contact by email: rec@niagarachildrenscentre.com. Ask your therapist about use of the pool as part of individual or group therapy sessions.

COMMUNITY SWIM & CONNECT
Join our Recreation Therapy team at Grimsby YMCA and Fort Erie Boys and Girls Club Pools (warm, adults can touch the bottom) this winter for parent and toddler open swim times. These sessions offer a chance for parents and caregivers to explore a new environment while connecting with other Centre parents in the community with the support of Centre staff throughout the whole process (including the change room!). Connect one-on-one with Sabrina, our Family Mentor Coach and an experienced Centre parent. She understands the day-to-day challenges of raising a child with a disability and can provide practical problem-solving, lived experience, information about our services and community supports.
IDEAL FOR CAREGIVERS WHO:

• have a question about community options (e.g., dentists, optometrists, programs, equipment)

This group will also give you the social opportunity to make connections with other Centre Parents and Caregivers. Strollers and wheelchairs welcome. After our walk, we will have cozy warm beverages and treats available inside to continue our talk and visit together.

This workshop provides an overview of financial resources available to parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. We will discuss programs such as Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD), Special Services at Home (SSAH), the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), the Easter Seals Incontinence Grant (ES-IG), and more. HOW CHILDHOOD STRESS IMPACTS BEHAVIOUR
Every child shows big behaviours, but what if those “misbehaviours” are actually stress responses? In this one-hour caregiver workshop, we’ll combine Dr. Shanker’s Five Domains of Stress with Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to explore how stress shapes behaviour and share practical strategies to reduce stress for both children and caregivers.

MAKING MORNINGS AND BEDTIMES EASIER
