he holidays are a time for rest and relaxation, with kids out of school and family and friends in town visiting. Take advantage of the time off and enjoy many of the holiday activities on and around the San Antonio River Walk. Perhaps the best way to take in the sights and sounds of the holiday season is a boat ride with Rio San Antonio Cruises. The friendly and knowledgeable Rio Cruises tour guide will engage you in a rich narrative history of the River Walk while you enjoy the sights of the Christmas lights and the sounds of holiday carolers. Or you can enjoy a more intimate experience with a private charter available for dinner or cocktails. And don’t forget to take a Rio taxi ride into the Museum Reach to take in the beautifully landscaped addition to the River Walk. For more information, please call Rio San Antonio Cruises at 210-244-5700. From Dec. 6 through Jan. 3, experience the San Antonio River Authority (SARA) Museum Reach River of Lights at The Pearl. Beginning at the turning basin near Grayson Street and flowing southward to Lexington Avenue, this 1.3-mile stretch of the river will come alive in an array of colors and lighting. Experience more than 100 underwater lights, fiber optic lights throughout many of the water features, LED rope lighting crossing from one side of the river to the other, light posts wrapped in LED holiday lights and much more. River of Lights will kick-off with “Santa’s Rockin’ River of Lights,” co-produced by the Paseo del Rio Association, on Dec. 6 and 7. Have your picture taken with Santa
