I remember thinking… I want to be like her.

hen asked recently to pen an article focused on local business women, it immediately prompted me to think of the many female business women and community leaders with whom I’ve had the honor of working throughout my first two and half decades in economic development. I am grateful to all of these women who have influenced me professionally and personally. While space doesn’t accommodate me to acknowledge all of them, I am delighted to pay homage to several of these remarkable women. In the early days of my career, or the years better known as the early 1990’s, I facilitated a loan for a company then called General Graphic Services, now known as GGS

Information Services. I recall working with Rita Hoover, GGS’s CFO, who I found to be amongst few (at the time) female chief financial officers in York County. Rita was empowered by GGS President, Paul Kilker, who believed fiercely in Rita’s prowess. Rita exemplified (and still exemplifies) toughness and grace simultaneously.

I remember thinking… I want to emulate her qualities. Along my professional path, I’ve had the pleasure to engage on multiple occasions with Coni Wolf via her role as VP, Business Development of York Container Company, as well as during her service as a York County Economic Development Corporation board member. Coni immediately struck me as articulate, persuasive, and giving with her time and expertise.
