The Specialized High School Admission Test (SHSAT) is the admissions test to some of the best high schools in the country, the eight Specialized High Schools in NYC. Admission to these schools is based solely on performance on the SHSAT; grades and other test scores are not considered. Over 28,000 students take the exam each year; however, less than 15% gain entrance to these prestigious schools. These unique High Schools are free public schools that offer a competitive education and a leg up towards college admissions, but students must achieve success on the SHSAT to be admitted.
