This project was designed as an entry for a business park competition in Kuwait City. Designed with the objective of creating an environment that fostered interaction between different businesses occupying the buildings, resulting in a collaborative and communal urban space. The building complex as a whole was considered as a typology. Rather than designing the buildings individually, the intermediate corridor was activated as an open collaborative area by carving out public spaces into the surrounding buildings.

This project involved redesigning a partially built hotel in Madinah, with an inherited design from 2009. The first three floors were constructed, and the original design parameters were what guided the redesign of the hotel.

Parcel A2 is designed to transform the South Boston Waterfront site into a generator of activity and a destination for employees, visitors, and the community at large. It includes over 400,000 sq.ft. of office space as well as retail and cultural uses.

A2’s architectural expression is formed by a hyper-energy efficient building façade of tessellated metal and glass, designed to serve as a distinct and compelling presence in a district dominated by glassy office buildings. It was also designed to challenge conventional practice in energy efficiency by aspiring to meet Passive House principles, one of the highest energy efficiency design protocols in the world. As a result, the interior environment would meet the highest standards for a healthy and creative environment for the public and tenants.

This small mosque of 100m2 included a renovation of an existing masonry cross- vaulted space and the addition of a minaret, grafted onto the existing structure as a symbolic landmark, next to a 18th century old palace.

A new civic plaza was created in what was before an adjoining parking space, turning the frontage of the mosque into a public square with seating, water fountain, ablution space and shading under a newly planted fig tree. The work for this project was displayed in both the Oslo Biennale and Studio-X Istanbul, the latter of which included the printing of a 9x34’ detailed plan of the progression of mosque typologies from the 6th century to the Arslan mosque

Mundanity stems from familiarity. Our capacity for critical consideration depreciates with repeated viewings, and often the potential architectural applications of the familiar are not considered due to their mundanity. By recontextualizing the mundane, the viewer is given the ability to consider it. Often this recontextualization is spatial, such as Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain. This pavilion subjects the mundane to a temporal recontextualization.

By recording shadows and recreating them using LEDs, the space is activated at night with the memory of the mundane movements of the day. The longer the time interval in the recontextualization, the more powerful the moment becomes.

Narrow housing explores the potential of the hallway, often a space determined by efficiency, to house communal activity. The project also redefines the boundaries between the domestic and the communal through a series of thresholds that allow occupants to determine their relationship with the communal hallway.

The datum of the building is is constant against a sloping site, creating two different conditions at each side of the block Where ground to ceiling height is greater, and the sidewalks are wider, the facade is active and houses the community activities within the building which begins to have a dialogue with the surrounding context, and where the height is shorter, the circulation is placed, and some of the structural shear walls are expressed, touching the ground.

2016

Designed as an entry to the Beirut Museum of Art, the museum lifts itself above the politically charged ground of downtown Beirut to create a new history but also to create a new covered public space for random acts of spatial appropriation and violence to occur. A new articulated ground floor, with both hardscape and landscape areas, creates the only public space along a street (Damascus road) that should have been public (leading to the only national museum) but is rather filled with introverted campuses, embassies, governmental institutions and cultural centers - public in nature but private in practice.
