Thank you for leading the way for philanthropy and volunteerism The inaugural fundraising campaign to benefit Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton is a shining example of how amazing things happen when people come together for the greater good.

Your generous investment in the community’s vision of NGMC Braselton becoming not only a destination for healthcare, but also a destination of hope, healing and wellness has come to life. NGMC Braselton would look very different today if it were not for you -- 393 volunteers who provided 60,400 hours of service and 118 donors who contributed over $4.8 million. In the following pages, you will see pictures and read about the many accomplishments of the campaign and all the ways you ensure healthcare excellence for the community.

As the area’s not-for-profit community hospital, Northeast Georgia Medical Center serves all, regardless of their ability to pay. We receive no local tax support. The Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, and our mission is to improve the health of the community through cultivation of relationships and partnerships to increase community support of Northeast Georgia Health System.

I am so proud to be a new addition to the Medical Center Foundation team and grateful that so many people are dedicated and connected to this hospital and the Northeast Georgia Health System. Further, I am thankful for the leadership of Tony Funari and the entire campaign cabinet. I look forward to building on the success you all have had with this campaign.

Together with you, we will make a difference in the lives of others and strengthen the healthcare of our community through philanthropy and volunteerism. The Henry Edward Braselton Chapel Henry Edward Braselton lived by the values of faith, humility, kindness, stewardship, service and love. He loved his Creator and his community — the town of Braselton that bears his family name—and especially his family. Henry Edward welcomed everyone with acceptance and respect, affirming his belief that all are equal in God’s eyes. Those in need were quietly nourished by his generosity. A standing invitation to “come see us” was just one of many friendly gestures Henry Edward would offer to others.

The Henry Edward Braselton Chapel is a destination that welcomes all faiths with open arms, much the way Henry Edward did all the years of his life. Kneeling benches crafted from beams reclaimed from a Braselton family barn, Georgia stone, natural woods and tranquil water create a quiet and peaceful setting to promote hope and healing for patients, their families, hospital staff and visitors. Visionary stained glass artist Laura Mentor, created the beautiful windows that feature Georgia flora and fauna, plants valued for their healing properties, the landscape and the history of the Braselton area and the deeply held values of generations of the Braselton family.

The Auxiliary Love Light Garden The Medical Center Auxiliary has a history of providing programs and services for Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) that uniquely benefit patients, families, physicians, employees and our community.

In 1980, such a program began with the first Love Light Tree at Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville, chaired by volunteer Anne Warren Thomas.

Since that time, the annual event has grown into a year-round fundraising effort generating millions, and its success and popularity have resulted in gardens featuring permanent trees at both NGMC Gainesville and NGMC Braselton. Hundreds of volunteers have given of their time and service to make possible the popular Christmas tradition. The Auxiliary Love Light Garden at NGMC Braselton was the Auxiliary’s first signature gift to support the new hospital and community.

Memorial and honorary gifts can be made to Love Light throughout the year and benefit Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The LEED Display NGMC Braselton was created after years of careful planning. We were thoughtful about making a space that would reinforce how we care for the health of our community in all we do and would be respectful of the environment. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Display, which is made possible by Jackson Electric Membership Corporation through a signature gift to The Medical Center Foundation, provides information about some of the choices made in our efforts to be responsible stewards, choices that set us apart in caring for our patients. These efforts at being “green� qualified us for LEED Gold for Healthcare certification, a distinguished building certification given by the U.S. Green Building Council to recognize the sustainable performance in site, water, energy, materials and indoor environment quality for occupants.

The W.A.T.C.H. Walkway Thanks to the NGHS Employee Giving Club, W.A.T.C.H. (We Are Targeting Community Healthcare), member support helped create a destination of hope, healing and wellness at NGMC Braselton.

In 2013, a feasibility study revealed the community’s desire for NGMC Braselton to not only serve as a provider of healthcare, but also a partner in wellness. The wellness trails and gardens designed as part of a master outdoor space plan are the catalyst for the hospital to become recognized as a premier destination for wellness that offers something for every age and activity level while providing users the opportunity to connect with nature in a setting that is sustainable and advances the wellness of patients, families, staff and the community.

The spaces will only happen through philanthropy and leading the way are W.A.T.C.H. members who have committed to raise the dollars to totally fund The W.A.T.C.H. Walkway.

Emergency Department Treatment Rooms Located in the highest traffic area of NGMC Braselton, the Emergency Department is the true front door of the hospital and is open 24/7.

In the first two years, we’ve exceeded all projections for number of patient visits and expect to exceed 44,000 patient visits in 2018.

The Braselton Rotary Flag Plaza “Service Above Self� is the Rotary motto and a way of life Rotarians practice daily. As a service organization, Rotary brings together service businesses and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The Flag Plaza is given in the spirit of community and salutes generations of service men and women who made great sacrifices to serve their country and ensure freedom for all.

The Jack and Janice Frost Water Garden Jack and Janice Frost live life abundantly – in fullness of joy and strength for mind, body, and soul. Giving back to the people and communities Memorial Park Funeral Homes serves has been a longstanding pillar of the local business since its beginning. As an art enthusiast who has traveled the world, Jack Frost had a vision to create a special destination with a public work of art featuring a handcarved marble fountain commissioned from Asia to promote “Hope, Healing, Wellness and Peace” among patients, their families, visitors, staff and the community.

The Courtyard Waterfall The Courtyard Waterfall is being constructed adjacent to the hospital’s outdoor dining plaza and will create the look and feel of the naturally serene setting of the north Georgia mountains. A basin and fountain will be visible to the west as you approach the front door of the hospital. The water will then cascade downward from the fountain into runnels that further move the water over large boulders and stones, across the hillside, and into basins at the foot of the plaza.

The gift includes a maintenance endowment, and the waterfall will operate using recycled water. Chris and Jane B. Smoot were drawn to the project because it replicates nature from the north Georgia mountains where Jane grew up. It is their hope that the natural setting will provide a place for patients and families, staff and visitors to find replenishment and solace in a busy world.

The Medical Center Foundation Hall of Honor The Hall of Honor at NGMC Braselton exists to honor our family of donors and permanently recognize giving club members for their donations to help fund projects and programs through philanthropic support of The Medical Center Foundation.

Cancer Services VERAN LUNG NAVIGATION SYSTEM The Veran Lung Navigation System, a best in class lung cancer detection service, will detect and treat lung cancer in its earliest stages and can increase the number of lives saved through early detection.

Lung cancer causes more deaths in the US than colon, breast and prostate cancer combined. According to the NGMC Cancer Registry 2012-16, in eight of NGMC’s service area counties, more than half of lung cancers are diagnosed at Stage 3 or 4 where the five year survival rate is only 15%.

Campaign funding made this system available to patients at NGMC Braselton and will allow easier access for sampling and treatment of suspicious lung lesions, resulting in better patient outcomes. When caught early, Stage 1 lung cancer can be cured.

Women and Children Services

GIRAFFE OMNIBED The rapid growth of NGMC Braselton has exceeded projections and an additional Giraffe OmniBed will allow the level II Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) team to provide a high level of healthcare to premature infants. The Giraffe OmniBed is designed to care for newborns in a consistently controlled thermal environment, reducing stress and promoting healthy growth and stability.

SIMULATION INFANT Our tiniest and most critically ill patients require care by highly trained physicians and clincial staff. Simulation provides staff the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment. The SimNewB simulation newborn operates realistic features and lifelike traits that provide clinical feedback. The campaign funded a SimNewB to train staff at NGMC Braselton.

DISTRACTION THERAPY EQUIPMENT Distraction therapy equipment is a useful tool when helping a child cope with a painful or stressful procedure or visit by engaging in something pleasant. NGMC Braselton serves pediatric patients and recognizes the opportunity to create a positive experience by offering interventions to help reduce stress, anxiety, and assure comfort.

Campaign funds provided tools to be used by the clinical team when treating children in the Emergency Department, in surgery or during a hospital stay.

Heart Services

CARDIAC CATHETERIZATION LABORATORY (CATH LAB) The Northeast Georgia Regional STEMI System is a collaboration between NGMC’s Emergency Rooms, Cath Lab and EMS departments in 18 counties and is designed to treat heart attacks as quickly as possible with some of the fastest heart attack response times in the nation.

Since Braselton became a part of the STEMI network, the number of cardiac patients at NGMC Braselton has increased 40% higher than projected and necessitates the addition of a second Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Funding from the campaign will help make this possible. Procedures performed in the cardiac cath labs include diagnostic heart catheterization as well as interventional cardiology including balloon angioplasty, stent placement and electrical heart therapy.

CARDIAC REHABILITATION Patients requiring Cardiac Rehab following a cardiac event (heart attack, angioplasty, heart surgery) or are in need of a medicallysupervised program to help improve cardiovascular health, have the opportunity to seek rehab close to home at NGMC Braselton’s outpatient Cardiac Rehab. Campaign funding makes it possible for patients and their caregivers to receive important heart and health education and clinical staff have resources to participate in important continuing education related to ongoing clinical training. In addition, enhancements to the space include monitors and cooling fans, to create a comfortable environment for patients.
