Clarity: An Exploration of Work in Glass by British Artists 28 March – 4 October Artists: Matt Durran, Jerome Harrington, Helen Maurer, Richard Wheater, Emma Woffenden, Jeff Zimmer

Work by six of the country’s leading artists who create artwork using glass. Approaches to Studio Glass have changed significantly over the last twenty years. Here we explore how the traditional beautiful object on a plinth has given way to works that may use glass as part of a process, working towards a finished piece that does not include the physical object. Illuminated glass takes on new meaning when used to express contemporary views and light, transience and motion are themes linked to glass that, when captured by the artist, become beautifully mesmerising.

Linda Mason: A Day at the Beach 11 July – 4 October New York based artist Linda Mason returns to her birthplace to develop a new series of work with pupils from Fulwell Primary School in

Sunderland, which all began with a day at the beach! Following a day of building sandcastles on the beach, the artist was inspired by ideas of constructing, making, and playing games. The children have made a chess set using 3D scanning and printing equipment, exploring the

use of new technology in combination with various glass making techniques. Alongside these pieces, Linda Mason has created a series of water jet cut glass figures using the silhouettes taken from their day at the beach and incorporating her signature brush strokes.
