Fleet Europe Summit attendees could register to test drive 13 different electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from leading manufacturers.
Thirty-odd fleet managers took part in the 2019 International Fleet Mangers Institute Masterclass for workshops and presentations about outsourcing fleet management, TCO, WLTP, connected vehicles and changes in taxation.
Nearly 200 attendants gathered for the Fleet Europe Remarketing Forum to discuss the latest insights in the vehicle remarketing industry. Diesel and battery-electric vehicle remarketing risks are still high on the agenda.
Estoril was also the scene for a meeting of the Global Fleet Managers Club, a group of around 50 global fleet managers who discuss how to make your fleet and mobility policies future-proof in light of the transformation the industry is undergoing.
The Smart Mobility Talks, on a stage in the heart of the Fleet Europe Village, focus on the disruptive ideas that are changing the fleet and mobility industries. Speakers include the winners of three previous Smart Mobility Start-Up of the Year editions, CarPay Diem, Fixico and Parkd.

5 Trends to watch out for in 2020 Managing a corporate fleet in Europe comes with certain imperatives. Cost awareness is one of them, especially as Procurement is most often in charge of the fleet (55% Procurement versus 12% HR). Even more important however is the fleet manager’s mission to manage risks and provide a non-disruptive experience for the employees; fleet is a supportive function and has rarely the opportunity for dramatic change. This might sound as a non-event, but reality is that, across business sectors, digitization is making an entry and the need for business kilometers is gradually decreasing. The Pharmaceutical industry is a good example: digital interaction with doctors and hospitals has replaced physical visits. Therefore, when fleet managers indicate that fleet sizes remain stable (48%) or even increase (32%), it seems to go against industry trends.

This European fleet managers are no longer in love with Diesel and up to 61% of them predict a decrease of the number of Diesel vehicles in favor of Petrol (52% of fleet managers predict an increase), electric and hybrid (resp. 75% and 62% of fleet managers predict an increase). Part of this trend is initiated by WLTP, Dieselgate and tax increases, but a lower average mileage of the company car (see above) also results in Diesel becoming a less suitable.

Europeans are not very fond of telematics, which is generally due to data privacy issues, resistance of works councils or employees. Surprisingly, only 38% of the European Fleet Managers confirm that telematics or connectivity data contribute to the quality of daily fleet management whilst 32% are not convinced of the telematics business case.

Again, no revolution to be expected on the corporate client side when it comes to the implementation of mobility solutions. Taking into consideration that fleet sizes will not decrease (see item 1), mobility is not treated as an alternative to the company car, but rather as an add-on. Micromobility as a corporate solution (bicycles, e-bikes, scooters) is expected to grow, but even more so the sharing solutions (bike and car). Carpooling seems to become less popular.

Amongst the new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are Traffic Jam Assist and Highway Assist. New infotainment with improved HMI With the new Giulia and Stelvio MY2020, the HMI evolves to a higher level, fostering simplicity, user-friendliness and intuitiveness. The instrument cluster is home to a new 7" TFT screen offering a clear, logical view and accommodating the new Advanced Driver Assistance Systems’ parameters. The 8.8" central display receives a substantial upgrade, becoming touch-screen and adopting an all-new layout with optimized graphics. Tablet-like tiles give access to most every function. By dragging and dropping them, every user can create their own homepage, in which each of the vehicle's functions becomes an app: Alfa DNA, radio, media, smartphone, navigator, climate control, connected services and ADAS. Apart from tapping and swiping the touch-screen, the driver can also use the rotary knob on the centre console.
Alfa Connect Services The new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio enter the next decade entirely connected, with a new set of services to boost safety and comfort. The My Assistant package offers an SOS call for automated crash response by the emergency services or a prompted call to the roadside assistance service in case of a breakdown, including the vehicle's coordinates, to accelerate the arrival of help. The package also includes a report service, which keeps customers updated on their Alfa Romeo's health via monthly reports sent by email. As a fleet manager, you will also appreciate the My Fleet Manager package, indeed intended for an optimised fleet management. My Remote comprises a variety of services enabling remote control of several vehicle functions (door locking/unlocking, light flashing) via smartphone/smartwatch, communication with the Alexa or Google Home voice assistance systems, location of the vehicle, and monitoring of specific parameters (speed and area), with alerts if the set limits are not complied with. My Theft Assistance alerts the owner of any attempt to steal the car. Many of these tools will be available at the launch, while the complete offer will be expanded and completed during 2020. Before the launch of Quattroporte and Ghibli in 2013, we were covering only a 10% segment of the total luxury car market with our sports cars GranTurismo and GranCabrio and the Quattroporte V8 engine. With the recent launches, the adoption of the innovative V6 engine and the introduction of the first diesel engine in the history of Maserati we were covering half of the market. In 2016, Maserati has launched the first SUV in its hundred-year history: the Levante. All engines are combined with the “Q4” intelligent all-wheel drive system. The target is to double sales to reach 800,000 in 2021, with 25% outside of Europe. • Environment Groupe PSA’s leadership in CO2 emissions from the fleet sold in Europe, with an average emission of 104.7 g/km of CO2 certified in 2017, vs a market at 118.5 g/km. Electrification Strategy Toyota pioneered the first mass produced petrol electric Hybrid in 1997. Since then successive generations of the technology have been introduced, with over 13 million Toyota and Lexus hybrids sold. Self-charging hybrid technology reduces CO2 by around 30% versus equivalent gasoline engines, with NOX emissions up to 90% below Euro 6 limits. With no need for infrastructure investment or change in driver behaviour, hybrid promises the quickest and most cost effective route to reduce your CO2 footprint and improve air quality.
