Why We Hold The Next Generation Indie Book Awards

Why We Believe in The Next Generation Indie Book Awards, NGIBA Authors and publishers who compete in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are serious about promoting their books. They aim to stand out from the crowd of millions of new titles, and millions of other books currently in print. Currently celebrating our 11th year and now entering our 12th year, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, NGIBA, is the largest Not-for-Profit Book Awards Program recognizing and honoring the top independently published books of the year. Referred to in the media as the Sundance of the publishing world, the NGIBA draws leaders from both traditional and independent publishing to identify indie books deserving a wider audience. We look forward to celebrating our Winners and Finalists at the Gala Awards Reception being held at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans during the American Library Association in June.

Message from Co-Chairperson and Co-Founder, Catherine Goulet This year was a very exciting year for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards (“NGIBA”)! We saw substantial growth with 15% more entries over last year. Even more exciting was having the opportunity to work with Co-Chair, Cathy Teets of Headline Books. NGIBA first met Cathy almost 10 years ago at one of our awards receptions in NYC. The caliber of writing and editing of Headline’s books has Catherine Goulet remained outstanding over the years and they have won close to 500 awards through various awards programs. Cathy works closely with her authors and educates them on marketing, sets up opportunities for book signings, and teaches them how to sell their books. We were so impressed that we awarded Cathy Teets/Headline Books our first and only Publisher of the Year award a few years ago. What a pleasure to now have the opportunity to co-chair the 2018 NGIBA with Cathy. Thank you Cathy for all you do for independent authors and publishers – you are a gem! Also, a big thank you to co-founder and literary agent Marilyn Allen, for her expertise, and continued generosity and keen desire to help authors. A special shout out and thanks to Shelley Anderson who works her magic every year to ensure the success of the book awards program! Thank you to, Tag Goulet, Beth Kallman-Werner, Lolly de Jonge, Ashley Teets, Heidi Ferber, Kimberly Wood, Shea Megale, Peter Cyngot and our esteemed judging team for everything you do. From the bottom of my heart, I’d like to thank all authors and publishers who have enriched our lives tremendously this year with your excellent submissions. We are honored and humbled to put on this awards program each year because of you! As always, our hope is that you continue to have ongoing success with your books now and in the future. (Catherine Goulet)

Message from Co-Chairperson, Cathy Teets What a privilege it has been to serve as co-chair of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards! I have been publishing books for 33 years and an Indie Book Award is one the most prestigious an independent author or publisher can receive. I applaud all the authors who continue to allow wonderful stories to flow from their keyboards and urge all of you to send those stories out to publishers. Never give up and Cathy Teets never get dismayed. Rejections will make you stronger and your writing better. Be confident in yourself and I wish all of you success in the future. (Cathy Teets)

Message from Co-Founder, Marilyn Allen It is my privilege to be a part of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards since it inception and to watch it grow every year. It’s truly wonderful to see so many talented writers win across 70 categories and to know that this recognition will expand their audiences and help launch their writing success. (Marilyn Allen) Marilyn Allen

We would also like to thank all of our expert judges who enthusiastically review each book they receive, Book Coordinator, Kimberly Wood who received all our books for the 2018 awards year, Heidi Ferber, in charge of marketing our awards program, Peter Cyngot, our catalog designer and all the volunteers who help make the reception a night to remember!
