Why We Believe in The nexT GeneraTion indie Book aWards (nGiBa)

Authors and publishers who compete in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are serious about promoting their books. They aim to stand out from the crowd of millions of new titles, and millions of other books currently in print.

Currently celebrating our 17th year and now entering our 18th year, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards (NGIBA), is the largest International Book Awards Program recognizing and honoring the top independently published books of the year. Referred to in the media as the Sundance of the publishing world, the NGIBA draws leaders from both traditional and independent publishing to identify indie books deserving a wider audience. We look forward to celebrating our Winners and Finalists at our Gala Awards Reception in San Diego in June during the American Library Association annual conference.

Call for Judges

for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards

We are seeking leaders in the book publishing industry to join the prestigious group of judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, the largest international awards program honoring exceptional independently published books.

Judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are all actively involved in the publishing industry. They include literary agents, editors, book reviewers, writing teachers, publishing executives, best-selling authors, and experts in the various areas of judging including book design.

We welcome applications from individuals who have expertise with book publishers of any size. While many of our judges have worked with successful independent publishers, our judges also include individuals who have worked with major publishing houses such as Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins and many divisions of the Penguin Random House Publishing Group and Avon Books, among others.

For more information about our judges, please visit: www.indiebookawards.com/judges.php.

Judges for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards are paid a modest honorarium. We are looking for judges for both fiction and non-fiction categories.

The Next Generation INDIE BOOK AWARDS

is the largest International awards program for indie authors and independent publishers. Now celebrating its 17th year of operation for the 2024 awards year!

Message from Founder and Co-Chair, Catherine Goulet

Congratulations to all the Winners and Finalists in the 2024 Awards Year! We are looking forward to celebrating with you at our annual awards gala being held in San Diego in June where we will honor and recognize the most outstanding independent books of the year.

Thank you for submitting and entrusting us with your wonderful books! This year we had a close to 10% increase in entries over last year. With thousands of incredible books to be judged, it was a tremendous feat for our esteemed team of judges to select the top books of the year. Much appreciation goes out to our judges for all your dedicated work.

I am forever grateful to my co-founder Marilyn Allen who brings a wealth of experience combined with a joie de vivre which she shares with our team, the authors and independent publishers. We are all so blessed to know her.

I’d also like to express my sincere thanks to Cathy Teets, an outstanding, award-winning independent publisher, who acts as my co-chair and tirelessly works to support indie authors while providing marketing opportunities to them whenever and wherever she can.

We would never be able to put on such a fabulous and broad-reaching awards program without the contributions of our whole team headed up by our exceptional awards coordinator, Shelley Anderson, who works tirelessly to ensure everything is handled and runs smoothly.

Thank you to the rest of our team whose contributions continue to add to running such a successful awards program including Anushka, Ashley, Beth, Chris, Heidi, John, Karen, Lolly, Meghan, Mike, Peter, and Ray. Plus, thank you to my business partner Tag for always being a huge supporter of the Indie Book Awards. I am blessed to work with all of you and to do this meaningful work together! Keep on writing and I hope to see you in June!

(Catherine Goulet)

Message from Co-Founder, Marilyn Allen

As we wrap up our 17th year of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, I stop and reflect on this accomplishment. The NGIBA team has built this contest from nothing to being one of the largest International book award programs in the world. We have awarded hundreds of prizes, held 16 amazing award ceremonies (this year will be our 17th in San Diego) and helped many writers to advance their writing careers.

I love working as a literary agent in the publishing industry, but I especially love being a founding member and part of the NGIBA. It makes me happy to work with writers and help them get recognition for their writing. You can now add this award to all of your promotional pieces and social media vehicles. This is a great way to differentiate you from the millions of other writers and a way to highlight your work. I hope this award brings you lots of positive attention and strong book sales. To all the winners and finalists, I send my heartfelt congratulations. I raise my glass to you!

(Marilyn Allen)

Message from Co-Chairperson, Cathy Teets

It is my honor to serve as co-chair of the Next Generation Indie Book Awards, acknowledging the best of independent authors and publishers around the globe. An Indie Book Award elevates your book in the retail market and is a sign of excellence to the world.

Catherine Goulet inspires small and large publishers and independent authors worldwide through the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. Her dedication to this program celebrates and elevates all the winners and finalists with the recognition they deserve. I am excited to be part of this amazing program! (Cathy Teets)
