The NYPTA Board of Directors approved the 2018 operating budget at the Fall Board of Directors meeting on October 18, 2017. The development of the budget involves many parties from across the NYPTA. It begins with budget requests submitted by staff, officers, directors and committee/taskforce budget managers.

The chapter’s bookkeeper, Lin Morin from Bulmer Bookkeeping, the Executive Director, Kelly Garceau and the treasurer reviewed budget requests and modified them to meet NYPTA travel and meeting attendance requirements. The Finance Committee (FC) and staff then met via conference call to review all funding requests and make projections regarding dues and other revenue. The FC uses the NYPTA’s strategic plan as a mechanism for prioritization of chapter resources.

The FC committee consists of the Treasurer, Keri Gill-Smith as chair and members Clarence Chan (Brooklyn/ Staten Island), Joel VanSlyke (Southern Tier) and the President, Mike Mattia (ex officio). Debra Engel (Greater New York) was appointed to fill a vacancy on the committee in September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Joel VanSlyke for his 6 years of service to the committee. His term officially ends at the end of 2017. His experience, commitment and knowledge have been great resources to the FC and the chapter as a whole.

Hello my fellow members, Where has the year gone? As I write to you fall is upon us. Autumn brings with it beautiful colors and the beginning of the holiday season. As we’ve just celebrated Thanksgiving and are coming to the end of 2017, I begin to reflect on what it is that I am thankful for. On a personal level, I am thankful for my wife, Regina, who is my rock and my partner in all that I do. I am thankful for my children and grandchildren who are truly a blessing. I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful healing profession. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve you as your president. It is truly an honor. I am thankful for our wonderful members of our Executive Committee who dedicate themselves to service to each and every member.

I am thankful for our Board of Directors, committee chairs, SIG chairs, and task force members who serve to move our chapter forward. I am thankful for the Chapter office staff. They are the backbone of our chapter and possess the expertise that assists all of us in being successful at the state and “Our collective energy and collaboration are the key drivers to our sucdistrict levels. With that said, our collective energy continues to get stronger. I am very happy and proud to inform you that our chapter has surpassed the 7,000 member level for the first time in its storied history. Congratulations to all of us. We are truly “better together.” Our power is in our numbers and our collective voices. It is because of each of you that we were able to successfully pass two major pieces of legislation that impact our practice in NYS. Our title protection bill has been signed into law by the governor and our PTA bill has been delivered to his desk. Yes, my friends a very successful year on the legislative front.

Our success is driven by the continued collaboration of our committees as they work together to enhance our initiatives and to focus their efforts as we move forward. I need to give a special thanks to Vice President Tracy Sawyer who has worked tirelessly with our committees over the year.

Some notable items in the 2018 budget and current financial status of the chapter include: The overall budget is less in 2018 compared to 2017 as the chapter conference will not be held in 2018.

The 2018 budget dues income projection will be kept at the same level as 2017. The FC believes this is a conservative estimate as dues income has been quite complicated in the past several years. Dues income peaked in 2013 and has been lower each of the past 3 years. 2017 dues income has been higher and appears to be on pace to be at the highest level in the past 4 years. The APTA Career Starter Dues Pilot Program began in 2014 and offers new graduates a reduced membership dues level for the first 5 years of their careers. We hope to see membership growth by retaining more new graduates whom will eventually become full paying members. The Chapter has also engaged in increased efforts around membership retention and we appear to be seeing the fruits of these efforts. Of note, NYPTA membership dues have not increased in over 20 years.

The Chapter office building rental property is projected to generate $15,300 in 2018. This is based on the currently rented area of the building. The smaller first floor space remains unoccupied, and we continue to search for a suitable renter. This rental income offers the Chapter a source of non-dues revenue, which is an important diversification of revenue sources.

The Arthur J. Nelson Research Designated Fund will be increased to $12,500 in 2018 for research projects in New York State. The Chapter also recently made the final $25,000 payment to the Foundation for Physical Therapy supporting research at the national level. This completes the Chapter’s 5-year $125,000 pledge.

The overall budget is required to be balanced, and the 2018 Budget includes a $757 surplus.

The FC also identified a need to designate money for the purpose of funding capital expenses for the Chapter office building. This money will be used for large building expenses outside the operating budget. The Board of Directors approved the creation of the Capital Improvement Fund to be maintained between $25,000 and $50,000 for this purpose. The initial funding is from budget surplus funds from the 2016 operating budget.

The Board of Directors also approved $30,000 from the Chapter Reserves to be used toward the mortgage on the Chapter office building. This represents approximately half of the balloon payment that will be due at the end of the mortgage’s 10-year term.

Overall, the Chapter remains in a strong financial position, with total assets of approximately $1 million (including $417,000 office building value and $509,000 liquid assets). Chapter policy mandates we maintain investment reserves at a minimum of 55% of the operating budget. We currently exceed this $415,000 minimum, allowing approximately $60,000 to be available for special projects. We have been fortunate to enjoy good returns from the stock market this year and continue our investment mix of approximately 70% stocks and 30% bonds/cash.

AWARDS COMMITTEE SEEKS NOMINATIONS Any Chapter member or district may submit nominations. It is important that all nominations be well supported with information about the nominees’ activities that indicate their appropriateness for the award.

To be considered valid, all nominations must be submitted on the official form by April 13, 2018. Multiple entries may be submitted.

The following is a list of descriptions of NYPTA awards:

1. Dr. Marilyn Moffat Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes an NYPTA member who has made an outstanding contribution to physical therapy. The recipient will have demonstrated consistent service to the development of the physical therapy profession, beyond that which is inherent in being a member of the profession. This commitment of service is demonstrated by contributions to the profession in the following areas: 1. The profession of physical therapy in any of the following areas: a. Education. The recipient has fostered the development of quality learning experiences that promote sustaining and improving the physical therapy profession, including teaching in areas such as academic, in-service or continuing education; development and implementation of teaching methods; administration of a PT program. b. Clinical research. The recipient has initiated or participated in laboratory and/or clinical research that has promoted the development of the physical therapy profession and has published or disseminated the results of such research. c. Service. The recipient has demonstrated service to the profession in patient care, consultation, administration or education as a liaison to other health care organizations and/or committees.

2. The APTA or its components: The recipient has promoted the organization and its goals.

3. Community: The recipient has demonstrated involvement in organizations such as service organizations; local, state or federal government in an elected or voluntary capacity.

2. NYPTA Lifetime Service Award. The recipient shall have demonstrated a commitment to the profession of physical therapy by serving NYPTA: 1. Throughout their physical therapy career on an ongoing, consistent basis.

2. Through service primarily to the Chapter in any elected or appointed capacity but may also include District or National activities.

3. By providing contributions that are worthy of mention and which will be judged on the basis of results and not merely the duration or continuity of that service.

Chapter Award General Criteria: 1. Candidates must be members in good standing of the APTA and may be nominated by any member of the New York Chapter. However, candidates for the New York Chapter Appreciation Award need not be APTA members.

2. Nominations must be submitted on the official form found on page 7.

3. Unsupported nominations will not be considered.

4. A committee appointed by the Board of Directors will consider all nominations and choose recipients.

5. Recipients of the Dr. Marilyn Moffat Distinguished Service, New York Chapter Appreciation, Public Relations and Merit Awards will be notified two weeks prior to the Delegate Assembly to ensure their presence during the presentation of awards.

6. All awards will not necessarily be presented each year.

3. Leslie J. Wood Outstanding Service to Chapter Award. The recipient will have made outstanding contributions to the New York Chapter in promoting the organization and its goals.

4. Merit Award. The recipient will have made meritorious contributions in one of the following capacities: as a member of the Chapter Board of Directors, as a task force or committee Chairperson, or by committing time and resources to the Chapter and the profession.

5. Doreen Frank Legislative Award. The nominee shall have demonstrated consistent, outstanding participation in the legislative arena by promoting initiatives that preserve, protect and advance the practice of physical therapy in NYS. Activities shall include the following: a) attendance at Lobby Day b) interaction with legislators re: current legislative issues c) promotion of and participation in PAC activities d) involvement in legislative activities on a district and/or chapter level.

6. Public Relations Award. The recipient will have fostered public awareness of the profession of physical therapy through utilization of the media, community activities, special events or promotion of PT Month, etc. Nominations may be submitted for Districts, individuals, facilities or schools, and must be substantiated by written information, photographs, brochures/printed materials or copies of articles, etc.

Activities of Chapter committees are not eligible for consideration.

7. New York Chapter Appreciation Award. This award is not limited to physical therapists or APTA members. The individual will have fostered the ideas and/or ethics of physical therapy through service to the New York Chapter or the profession.

8. Outstanding Service to District Award. The recipient will have made outstanding contributions to a district.

9. Leadership Development Award. Recipients of this award should exemplify the spirit of leadership development within the profession through, but not limited to, the following: a) Participation or promotion of mentor/protégée relationships; b) Participation or promotion of attendance at the Leadership Development Workshop, Delegate Assembly, Lobby Day or other association leadership activities; c) Creation and implementation of innovative ideas for developing leaders within the profession; c) Creation and implementation of methods to keep the spirit of leadership alive throughout the professional life cycle.

The following outlines further specifications for this particular award: a) Nominations may be submitted for Districts, individuals, facilities or academic programs; b) Nominees should be Chapter members; in the case of facilities or academic programs, the individual spearheading the effort should be a chapter member; c) Nominations must be substantiated by written information including data collected regarding numbers of individuals affected by the leadership efforts; d) Members of the Chapter Leadership Committee are not eligible for this award while in office.

2017 A Year of Tremendous Success

Earlier in the year, during a special summer meeting (yes, these dedicated individuals interrupted their summer) our board approved the reorganization of our Student Special Interest Group, which had been dormant for many years. As I write to you I have returned from attending and addressing a very successful NYC Student Conclave. Over 260 PT and PTA students attended. A huge thank you to The Hunter College Physical Therapy Program who co- sponsored the event with the NYPTA and our SSIG leaders who helped to plan and implement a well-run event.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention the efforts of our Leadership Committee Chair, Audrey Paslow, who worked tirelessly with the SSIG members during planning of the conclave.

My friends 2017 has been a very busy and successful year. I have mentioned a few individuals in this letter, but everyone has done a remarkable job this year. Thank you all!!

So our journey continues. We have more work to do as we end the year and much to do in 2018. However let’s take this time to reflect on our blessings. For now let’s all be thankful for where we have been, where we are, and where we are heading.

I wish each of you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving, a wonderful and peaceful holiday season, and a happy healthy New Year. Let’s hope that our country and the world experiences healing and peace. As John Lennon said, “Let’s give Peace a chance” and “All we need is love.” Thanks again for all you do every day for your patients, your communities, and our profession.

2018 Legislative Plan Greetings fellow members.

I am excited to share some new developments related to payment and legislation in New York State (NYS). First, NYPTA’s committee that focuses on legislative and payment initiatives has undergone a change in name. The NYPTA Board of Directors recently voted in favor of a name change from the Legislative and Payment Committee to the Public Policy Committee. This more closely aligns the name and function of the committee as well as models the naming and structure of its national counterpart, the APTA Public Policy and Advocacy Committee.

In another action by the NYPTA Board of Directors, we have adopted a new Legislative Plan for the 2018 NYS Legislative session. Since the end of a very productive 2017 session we have been evaluating our legislative priorities and advocacy strategies. As the holidays and new year approach I want to take this opportunity to provide an overview of our updated plan and to share some new initiatives which we believe will help us build on the momentum gained during the previous session. I also would like to express a sincere Thank You to all of our members who were engaged in the legislative process in 2017 and responded to our “Call to Action” e-blasts, made legislative visits, and/or attended Lobby Day. High Copay Legislation/Patient Access to PT. For the 2017 session we elected to introduce a significant change in our bill. We have updated the language by tying Physical Therapy copayments to that of primary care services. This change would prevent the current cost-shifting practices resulting in disproportionate copayments while taking into account the wide variability between insurance plans.

2. Direct Access. We have introduced a bill to enhance the current direct access provisions within our practice act. The bill would remove the “10 visit”/”30 day” limitation. It would require communication to the patient’s primary care physician regarding the episode of care.

3. Protecting Patients’ Rights to Provider Choice. We will continue to investigate a vehicle for legislation to highlight the existence of referral for profit and to curb its practice. Our goal is to enhance transparency of physician ownership in ancillary services and to restrict the practice of conditioning a referral for physical therapy on where the services will be performed.

4. Practice Act Advancement: NYPTA has an active taskforce which is working to develop a comprehensive strategy to improve the Physical Therapist Practice Act in New York. The work of this group will help to guide chapter leadership in crafting a more contemporary practice act consistent with current and future physical therapist practice.

I would encourage you to review the full plan on our website as the above points are only highlights. I will echo the sentiments of previous writings in that WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION! In order to make participation easier, NYPTA will be supporting new legislative efforts including a Legislative App for smartphones and tablets.

This technology will enable users to have all materials at the palm of their hand that are necessary to communicate with your legislators. More news on this will become available in early 2018.

Please stay tuned for updates as we plan for and begin the next legislative session. We will be hard at work over the next several months to ensure that our priorities are able to take off once again. I am proud of the legislative and payment-related goals our association has accomplished and I look forward to working with our members to build upon them in the upcoming year.

New York PT & PTA Students Raise Funds for Physical Therapy Research

Students from PT and PTA programs in New York were among students from 146 schools that participated in the 2016-2017 VCU-Marquette Challenge, raising $340,986, with a record number of returning schools. Since its inception in 1989, 269 schools have participated in the Marquette Challenge and have raised a cumulative total of $3.7 million for the Foundation.

The Foundation wishes to thank physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students of Hunter College, Ithaca College, and New York University for raising $10,841 in support of the Challenge. The success of the Challenge would not be possible without their contribution. Notably, New York University received an Award of Merit, raising $8,470.

This year’s top fundraisers include: • 1st Place: Mercer University • 2nd Place: Virginia Commonwealth University • 3rd Place: University of Pittsburgh As the top fundraiser, Mercer University earned first place by raising $45,220. Mercer University will serve as co-host and won naming rights for next year’s Mercer-Marquette Challenge, which is currently underway.

The Challenge annually supports grants, scholarships and the rigorous peer review process which results in the awarding of all Foundation scholarships and grants. Michael Borich, DPT, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Emory University, is the recipient of the $40,000 VCU-Marquette Challenge Research Grant. His 1-year project, “Targeted Neuromodulation of Abnormal Interhemispheric Connectivity to Promote Neural Plasticity and Recovery of Arm Function After Stroke,” will study the ability of ihPAS, a promising non-invasive brain stimulation approach, to target a critical pathway contributing to arm dysfunction and persistent disability in stroke. The Challenge also funded a PODS I Scholarship in 2017, which was awarded to Jacob J. Capin, BS, MS, DPT, University of Delaware. His research focuses on better understanding and treating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.

The Marquette Challenge is the signature annual fundraising initiative of the Foundation, raising more funds each year than any other Foundation activity. The Challenge is coordinated and carried out by physical therapist and physical therapist assistant students across the country. Students organize grassroots fundraisers on their campuses and in their local communities that raise awareness for and benefit the Foundation for Physical Therapy. Since its inception, the Challenge has funded over 22 research grants and scholarships.

Faculty and students of PT and PTA programs in the state of New York are encouraged to visit the Foundation’s Web site at www.Foundation4PT.org to learn how they can support the Foundation for Physical Therapy and physical therapy research through the 2017-2018 Mercer-Marquette Challenge. About the Foundation for Physical Therapy The Foundation for Physical Therapy was established in 1979 as a national, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality and delivery of physical therapy care by providing support for scientifically-based and clinically-relevant physical therapy research and doctoral scholarships and fellowships.

Over the last 38 years, the Foundation has awarded more than $17 million in research grants, fellowships, and post professional doctoral scholarships to more than 590 emerging scientists. Foundationfunded researchers have gone on to receive an estimated $753 million in external funding from the National Institutes of Health and other sources. Many of today’s leading and emerging physical therapist researchers, clinicians, and academicians began their careers with a grant or scholarship from the Foundation.

2017 Conference: A Retrospective Review

The Program Committee with the extraordinary assistance from NYPTA office staff began working on the 2017 conference within months of Conference 2015’s wrap up. As the newest member on the committee it was unnerving to fill the shoes of the prior Committee Chair, but given the exceptional trio of dedicated committee members consisting of Rebecca Kalb, PT, DPT, SCS, Theresa Kolodziej, PT, DPT, PhD and Cheryl Gillespie, PT, DPT, MA we were prepared to build on prior successes.

The ultimate goals of this year’s conference were to provide an exceptional platform for relevant continuing education, showcase research developments, beneficial products and services and present an atmosphere of collegiality, friendliness and professionalism.

One of the things we tried to build on this year was showcasing products, services and employers that were recommended to us by our colleagues who use them. This process brought in display vendors with products and services specific to our profession. The addition of an informal PT pub night was fun and well attended but could use further structure to improve district commingling. The other new feature was a Keynote Speaker who gave a heart breaking account of her personal experiences with physical therapy that helps to demonstrate our role in fighting the opioid epidemic.

As I look back to all the conversations I had with many attendees there are a few that really demonstrated to me the successful completion of our goals. The first was a conversation I had with an attendee the first day who said to me you know you really should have a speaker who talks about documentation and compliance, I happily said you know we do tomorrow. The other was a few conversations I had with a group of PTA students from Broome Community College who were engaged in learning whatever they could and having a lot of fun in the process.

As we analyzed the reviews and feedback many described the conference as "fun and engaging" with instructors being "fantastic, enjoyable, informative" and so far my favorite comment, "I was riveted" and that was for coding and billing.

There were many positive comments from attendees, including myself, that were impressed by the quality and diversity of the platform and poster presentations and for that we thank the Research Committee and the participating educators and students. Future conferences can build on these new experiences to provide attendees with engaging and fun activities apart from the continuing education sessions.

This year’s conference had over two hundred attendees and nineteen exhibitors. Overall attendees new and old made remarkable and insightful comments about learning information they could take back to his or her work setting and apply, and exhibitors loved the layout of the Exhibit Hall.

Future conferences will continue to provide eclectic educational experiences while growing the conference experience for the betterment of our profession and our Chapter. In 2018 be on the lookout for Mini-Conference events on Long Island – September, Rochester – April and Albany – October.

The Program Committee is always looking for exceptional presentations. If you have attended a presentation that you thought was excellent please submit suggestions for specific courses or speakers to the NYPTA office. Successful programing can only be achieved with everyone’s help, and for that I thank all of you who were involved this year.

The Research Committee put on a well-attended program at this year’s conference. The morning session consisted of Richard Bohannon, PT, EdD, DPT, FAPTA, FAHA, FASNR, FAACPDM presenting, “Maximizing Movement- A Synopsis of Research Conducted over 40 Years of Clinical Practice” which summarized contributions to the physical therapy literature in older adults and neurologic populations. New York Physical Therapy Association Call for Applications Arthur J. Nelson Research Designated Fund (RDF) The New York Physical Therapy Association invites applications for the 2018 Arthur J. Nelson Research Designated Fund. The chapter will fund up to $12,500 for projects designed to facilitate clinical research in physical therapy. The fund is intended to provide a mechanism for investigators to collect pilot data to support the development of larger, more comprehensive research proposals.

Arthur J. Nelson Research Designated Fund Details The NYPTA Research Committee will review all applications based on the following guidelines: 1. relevance of the study to physical therapy practice, research or education 2. clear identification of how the pilot data will be used in a larger grant proposal 3. research design and methodology 4. organization and clarity of the application 5. investigator’s readiness and likelihood of completing the project 6. appropriateness of the budget request The committee will recommend recipients for the awards to the Board of Directors.

Eligibility The principal investigator must be a member of the APTA, be licensed to practice physical therapy in the state of New York, and maintain an active New York State Education Department registration. Pre-professional (entry-level) students are ineligible to apply.

Application Deadline Applications for the Arthur J. Nelson Research Designated Fund can be obtained from the Research Committee webpage on the NYPTA website (www.nypta.org/group/Research) and must be returned electronically to the Chapter office by February 1, 2018 at midnight. There will be no exceptions to this deadline.

School of Health Sciences Physical Therapy Graduate Draws on School’s Comprehensive Clinical Training -and Experience as a Dancer- to Treat Patients New York, N.Y. – Oct. 10, 2017- Ashley Houck, a graduate of Touro College School of Health Sciences in Bay Shore, N.Y., is a recipient of the School’s prestigious Maimonides Award in Physical Therapy (PT) for demonstrating the highest professional ideals of a healthcare professional.

Houck, a life-long dancer who grew up in the northern Pennsylvania town of Sayre, majored in biology and minored in chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. She also participated in the school’s student-run dance program, an experience that would later give her a leg up on her profession as a physical therapist.

During her clinical rounds through Touro, Houck treated dance students at Case Western University in Ohio, and later, Broadway performers from the shows Waitress, School of Rock, Cats and Hamilton.

“The way they treat and use their bodies is a big part of their job,” Houck said of the patients she saw at Neurosport Physical Therapy in New York City. “They’re dancers, actors and vocalists who are overworked and very humble; you wouldn’t even know they were performers. They really tried to maximize their time with us and were so grateful for the care.”

Houck values the range and rigor of the clinical training she received during Touro’s five-year DPT (Doctor of Physical Therapy) program. “You’re not just sitting in a classroom, you are taking charge of your own learning,” she said.

That learning included therapies unique to one of the hospitals where she worked, Geisinger HealthSouth Hospital in Pennsylvania, to treat patients in the subacute setting recovering from surgical procedures, CVAs (strokes), and a multitude of other health conditions. She also observed patients being treated for balance and vestibular (inner ear) disorders. “If it’s a certain condition, it can be alleviated through an immediate quick maneuver of the patient’s body,” said Houck. Other treatments, like aquatic therapy, incorporated a pool whose floor would raise and lower. “It is helpful for the patients to have that extra buoyancy.”

At Touro, Houck immersed herself in the Delegate Assembly, an organization that advocates for the PT profession and is part of the New York Physical Therapy Association. She also helped form a student-led dance group at Touro that conducted classes in yoga, ballet and even ‘Bollywood’ style line dancing.

Dr. Vanessa Reddin, Ashley’s advisor, said Houck’s receiving the Maimonides Award is well- deserved.

“From the very beginning of the program, Ashley was an outstanding student. She was always present and available to help her fellow students as well as the faculty, and willing to go beyond what was asked of her. She truly exemplified the qualities of an excellent student and future physical therapist.”

Houck tells incoming PT students to keep an open mind to different kinds of professions, be mindful of the importance of working together with colleagues and to take advantage of the opportunities that Touro has to offer.

For now, Houck is studying for her boards and working as an interim therapist at Neurosport.

Asked what the future holds for her, Houck said, “Perhaps I will be an orthopedic clinical specialist continuing to treat dancers and performing artists in addition to the general population, and I would like to stay involved in advocating for the profession. I really just hope to make a difference in the lives of the people I treat.” www.nypta.org

NYPTA Members Make a Difference in Their Communities NYPTA Chapter Office - Regional Food Bank Farm Gloria Baker, Carla Rosenbaum and Kate Teidman volunteered at the Regional Foodbank Farm where they worked in the field picking beets, cabbage, parsley and turnips. The Farm supplies the Food Bank and over 1,000 participating agencies in 23 counties with diverse, fresh produce. The Farm has grown over 1 million pounds of fresh produce.

The unique mission of the Regional Food Bank Farm is to preserve the property as farm land and cultivate the land to grow and distribute produce, or the income from the sale of such produce to feed the people in need.

Catskill In honor of PT Month and PT DOS, members of the district volunteered at the Walk to Defeat ALS as well as walking in the event. Members also provided education of how to safely increase physical activity as well as led participants in pre-walk stretching. Additionally: • Early September, members stuffed over 1,200 backpacks with school supplies for local students in need.

• September 19th members volunteered at the Traumatic Brain Injury Association walk/run where they provided support and education to all participants.

• September 23rd members manned 2 tables at Senator Sue Serino's Annual Golden Gathering for local seniors.

Eastern The Eastern District members paricipated in numerous activites in October: • Rebecca Mason, PT, DPT spent a week on a medical mission in Hati October 7-14th (pictured).

• Alison Synakowsi, PT, DPT, OCS provided a lecture to local pediatricians on the "Differential Diagnosis of Back Pain for the Pediatrician."

• The SportsPT team ran a promotion to patients about #GetPT1st.

• Bob Collette, PT and his PT office staff wore matching t-shirts every Friday in honor of PT month.

Western District For their PT Day of Service over 25 members volunteered at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy in Buffalo where they painted, helped in the kitchen and gardens. Additional activities were: • Julie Wolfley, PT, DPT, OCS, District Chair educated 15-20 seniors at the local senior center about fall risk and prevention, and completed fall risk screens on 8 individuals.

• Social media was used to promote fall prevention, PT month, PT DOS and #GetPTst.
