Welcome to our Autumn Season – a feast of food for thought and fun. Flick through the brochure - but here are my recommendations.

Enjoy us as our plans for the restoration progress…

In September Propeller Theatre Company – the multi-award winning all male Shakespearean company - bring Pocket Dream, A Midsummer Night’s Dream squeezed into 1 hour with a 1 hour talk-back session with the audience. What better way to get young people into the Bard! This is followed hard on its heels by the UK premiere of Devil in The Detail by Metamorpho – a delicious comedy of mask, puppets, music and dance. October’s offer includes The Meeting to celebrate Black History Month - a play that imagines an encounter between icons Malcolm X and Martin Luther King (with an accompanying exhibition and workshop). And on a lighter note, If That’s All There Is by the brilliant young company, Inspector Sands – selected at Edinburgh by the Guardian as ‘Pick of the Fringe’ for “turning anxiety into art form”. And then - Ah-aagh! tis the season to be jolly – join us for our Christmas musical adventure with swashbuckling and boy and girl pirates. See page 27 for International Talk Like a Pirate Day fun! Book now to make the most of our offers.

The Bug and the Butterfly

The Marriage of Figaro

Peut Etre Theatre Sun 3 October 11am & 2pm 11am: 18 months – 3 years 2pm: 4+

Co-Opera Co.

Inspired by the poetry of Frederico García Lorca.

By Mozart Fri 1 October 7.30pm Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, a heady mix of comedy and pathos, lust and love, betrayal and social intrigue, is every bit as powerful and relevant today as it was in the 18th century. Co-Opera return after the success of last year’s Albert Herring and La Boheme. Directed by Jacopo Spirei, conducted by Robin Newton, sung by a cast of world class, young professionals and featuring a 12 piece orchestra. Recommendation: “Co-Opera’s performance of Albert Herring was by far the best operatic experience I have ever had in Portsmouth. The singing, staging, and orchestra were all magnificent, and the NTR acoustic gave it a clarity and immediacy which bigger houses can rarely match.” Colin Jagger, Head of Music at the University of Portsmouth

A dance-music theatre piece for children and their families about the little world in the grass. In a world where a dew drop is the size of a swimming pool and a flower is as tall as a skyscraper, an insect falls in love with a beautiful butterfly. A heart-warming story in miniature about love, friendship, reaching for the moon and dancing leaf to leaf. Recommendation: “The work has an off the wall sense of the bizarre, it is visually stimulating and constantly energetic and exploratory.” Charles Savage, NTR Board Member
