Power generation crashes to 2,470MW Adeola Yusuf
P
ower generation has plummeted by 1, 000 Megawatts (MW) to below 2,470 MW, worsening the acute electricity
supply shortage haunting the country, New Telegraph learnt yesterday. The electricity generation came down from about 3,470 MW, owing to the sharp shortage of
gas supply to the thermal plants across the country due to the shutdown of the Trans Forcados pipeline. The 400,000-barrels capacity pipeline, which suffered a leakage close to the
Forcados export terminal, conveys condensate and gas. The shutdown of the pipeline has led to the suspension of the 220 million standard cubic feet (scf) of
gas supply to the national power grid. This translates to more than one gigawatt of power, which is about 1,000 MW. CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
