Malaysia Airlines plane, with 295 people on board crashed yesterday near the Russia-Ukraine border and kicked of an international uproar over speculations

that it was shot down. The flag carrier, still reeling from the mysterious March 8 disappearance of flight MH370, said the aircraft was travelling from Amsterdam on an

overnight flight to Kuala Lumpur with 280 passengers and 15 crew. The Ukrainian military and pro-Russian rebels accused each other of shooting down the plane; both

sides saying they were not responsible “Malaysia Airlines confirms it received notification from Ukrainian ATC (air traffic control) that it had lost contact

with flight MH17 at 1415 (GMT)… approximately 50 km (31 miles) from the Russia-Ukraine border,” a report by the Agence France Presse (AFP) quoted the airline as saying on

orno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, yesterday painted a grim picture of the state of education in his state that is the epicentre of the insurgency unleashed on Nigeria by Boko Haram. According to him, the terrorist group has destroyed about 900 schools in the state since 2011 and killed 176 teachers. The governor spoke in Abuja at the inaugural meeting of the steering committee of the Safe School Initiative. Besides Shettima, representatives of Yobe and Adamawa states would also briefed the committee on the impact the insurgency has had on education in their domains.
