Despite all the things you have probably heard about the island’s accommodations being expensive, the truth is that there are accommodations that can meet almost all budgets and travel styles from luxury to full service and hostels. Here are my top 3 options based on three different budgets and travel styles. Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort As the largest Hilton property in the world this hotel is a city within a city. From 3 convenient stores to five spectacular pools, 18 restaurants and bars some with live music, a
kids club and a Spa, this property has something for everyone. Another advantage of this hotel is its location. Centrally located within Waikiki beach you are just steps away from trending lounges, bars, restaurants and nightclubs within the Waikiki beach area. This property includes Oceanfront and resort view guestrooms along with 2- and 3-bedroom suites with kitchens. Rate at this resort range from $300 to $1300 depending on the type of room and season. Lanikai Beach A trip to the Island is not complete it without visiting at least one of its beautiful beaches, my personal favorite is Lanikai beach. According to its website: Lanikai means "heavenly sea" in the Hawaiian language and when you see it you will know why it was given this name. It is a pristine beach and a favorite of many Kailuans and visitors alike. Its mile long beach of fine white sand and surfless, turquoise water is perfect for a beach day with the kids and for enjoying the view of the world famous Mokulua Islands, about a mile off shore. This guide will help you and your family prepare for a disaster. Gather the family now to begin following the 4 safety steps to be prepared in an emergency! 1. Determine what the risks are in the area where you live Obtain information from your local emergency management office, the Department of Health, or the American Red Cross Office: What kinds of disasters could happen and how to prepare for each one? How do the warning signs of your community sound and what to do if you listen to them? How to help the elderly and people with special needs? Create a family plan in case of disasters. Make a family reunion; make it simple and work as a team. 2. Create a plan for the family in case of disasters Plan Explain the dangers of disasters to your family Make a plan if they are not together. Choose a place outside of your neighborhood in case you can not go home (A) Choose a person who does not live in the city as your family contact (B)
All family members and the babysitter should know the address and telephone number of A and B. Fill out the local emergency phone number cards and the children’s ID cards. Fill out an emergency information form for each child with special health care needs. Familiarize yourself with the specifics of your child’s care or the school’s disaster plan because you may not be with your child during a disaster. Plan what to do if you are asked to evacuate. Plan several escape routes. Plan how to care for your pets. What should you tell the children It is important to educate children about disasters without alarming them too much. Use the following guidelines: Tell children that a disaster is something that can hurt people or cause harm. Explain that nature sometimes provides “too much of a good thing” fire, rain and wind. Explain how important it is to have a family plan in case of disasters. Teach children How to call for help When to call an emergency number

Call the family contact if they are not together Have your personal information with you at all times Evacuation If you are told to evacuate, follow these steps:
___ Make 2 copies of important documents and keep the originals in a safe.
Exit immediately if instructed. Listen to the instructions of local authorities on your battery radio. Wear protective clothing and shoes. Turn off water, gas and electricity if instructed. Leave a note indicating when you left and where you are going. Call your family contact to tell you where you are going. Bring your family’s emergency supplies (listed below). Lock your house. Use the routes suggested by your authorities. 3. Complete the checklist ___ Put emergency numbers near each phone. ___ Teach everyone how and when to turn off public services. ___ Make sure you have enough insurance coverage (for example for floods, fires, earthquakes). ___ Do a home hazard search to determine items that can move, fall, break or cause a fire. ___ Store enough supplies for emergencies that last at least 3 days. ___ Take a first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation class at the Red Cross. ___ Plan escape routes from your home - 2 from each room. ___ Look for safe places in your home for each type of disaster.
4. Practice and stick with your plan Every month: check your smoke alarms. Every 6 months: review family plans in case of disasters and make escape drills. Ask the children a questionnaire. Replace stored food and water. Once a year: replace the batteries in your smoke alarms (unless you use long-life batteries). Neighbors helping neighbors Meet with your neighbors and plan how they can help each other during a disaster. Discuss who has special skills (ie, medical, technical, etc.). Make plans to take care of the children in case the parents can not get home. Public services Do the following so you can be ready if you are told to turn off your public services: Look for the main fuse box, main water pipe and main gas pipe. Learn how and when to turn them off and teach them to family members. Keep a key and a flashlight near the gas and water shutoff valves. If you turn off the gas, you will need a professional to turn it on again. Important documents Make 2 copies and keep the originals of the following in a safe or airtight container.
Have 1 copy by hand and give the second one to your contact outside the city.
