Basketball teams travel west-river

Girls go 2-0, boys split with Rapid City teams Girls Basketball

By Miranda Rios pair of wins were earned by both the varsity and JV girls basketball teams as they traveled west this weekend. On Friday at Rapid City Central, the varsity won 62-39, while the JV won 47-38. For the varsity, senior Hannah Nieman led with 16 points in both games and senior Ellie Benson contributed 11. On Saturday, the Warriors faced Rapid City Stevens, winning the varsity 57-31 and JV 66-49. Senior Michaela Mayer, who had 10 points in the game, said she was happy with the team’s wins. “I thought we played well together as a team,” Mayer said. “We knew we would be taking on two good teams, and we came out ready to compete.” The Warrior girls will travel to Brookings today

and host Roosevelt Friday. Coach Nate Malchow said the team needs to be ready. “I am happy with how the kids played,” Malchow said. “We have challenging games this week, so we need to be ready to play.”

Boys Basketball

By Kelsey Knecht The Warrior boys beat Central in overtime 62-60 Friday. Senior Brett Stanley hit the game-winning bucket and also led the team with 18 points. On Saturday, the Warriors led Stevens by as much as 11 points in the second quarter, but fell short 58-55. Stanley again led all scorers with 22 points. The JV beat Central in double-overtime 61-60, and won at Stevens 55-47. The boys take the floor again on Thursday against cross-town rival Roosevelt, at WHS.

Bowlers sweep Yankton, host event Monday By Tia Nath and Zac Lupica The Warrior bowling teams swept Yankton at all levels Friday in Yankton. High game for the girls went to senior Marissa Johnson with a 198, and high series went to senior Brianna Stafford with a 507. For the boys, sophomore Aaron Johnson was high game with a 259 and bowled the high series with a 699. Johnson

also had 14 strikes in a row in his first and second games. Coach Troy Duffy said he is proud of how his team is beginning to look. “I’m seeing some results from the drills and teachings I’ve been giving, which is making me very happy,” Duffy said. tion Tournament Monday at Eastway Bowl. Both boys teams went out after their third match, while the girls took first and third. Junior Nicole Thill said she was proud of her teammates. “It was a really exciting and fun day,” Thill said. “We enjoyed seeing all of the teams who came out to bowl for (deceased coach) Howie.”
