According to the NSW Electoral Commission, all candidates and the electors who nominate them need to be registered to vote by 6 pm on 5 August 2024 within the local government electorate they intend to vote or stand.

Nominations cost $125 and can only be made between August 5 and 12pm (midday) on 14 August online or in person at an electoral office.

In the Nambucca Valley, the position of Mayor is ‘popularly elected’, meaning that voters make the choice of a Mayoral candidate on their ballot paper.

In some electorates, the Mayor is chosen by councillors after the general elections.

To stand for Council, each candidate will need to be nominated by at least two registered voters of the electorate for which they are standing.

A spokesperson from the NSW Electoral Commission said there are often mix-ups where nominating voters have not quite understood or are not up to date with their electoral details, so it is recommended that candidates supply up to five registered voters as nominating voters.

These nominating voters may be family or friends as long as they are registered voters in the relevant electorate.

It is possible to be registered to vote in an electorate where you do not reside but still pay rates, but this will need to be clarified with individual councils and all voters need to be registered to vote by 6pm on 5 August.

On election day it will only be possible for

voters to vote in one local government electorate.

There are also rules for who is eligible to stand as a candidate.

Currently serving time for a conviction or those with past convictions for certain electoral-related offences are disqualified from candidacy.

“If in doubt, please seek legal advice prior to nomination as anyone found later to be ineligible for election will be dismissed later as information comes to light,” a spokesperson

from the NSW Electoral Commission told prospective candidates in a recent webinar.

Election material, including websites and social media, are regulated between 5 August and the election on 14 September, 2024.

Prior to this it is possible to create and distribute material to announce intentions etc, but it is important to note that if fundraising is taking place, a candidate must be registered.

In the case of ‘How to vote’ material or any other literature to be distributed on election day, these must be registered and approved prior to the election.

Protective seawall and bleachers officially opened at Main Beach, Nambucca Heads

Completion of the project is also a notable example of the capacity of Council’s ability to manage and execute major construction projects in-house.

Rural men at highest risk of suicide

“EVERY ten days an Australian farmer takes his own life,” said Mary O’Brien, who gave a series of workshops across the Mid North Coast this week in support of the mental health of rural men.

Ms O’Brien of ‘Are You Bogged Mate?’, a Queensland based organisation and website providing support for rural men, spoke at the Macksville Ex-services Club on Monday 20 May.

On Tuesday she was heading to Bellingen and later Grafton to continue the discussions, which were organised by North Coast Local Land Services.

Though few men attended the event in Macksville, Ms O’Brien’s message was an important one for all who live in rural areas.

According to her, 76 percent of all suicides in Australia are men and suicide is the leading cause of death for Aussie men between the ages of fifteen and 44.

Eighty percent of these men do not have a diagnosable medical condition.

Men are three to four times more likely to kill themselves than women and the further you move away from the coast into rural areas, the more this ratio grows.

Ms O’Brien compared the depression experienced by farmers and rural men in general to ‘getting bogged’, which, as she explained, is a common occurrence for country people in the wet season.

“You don’t just set fire to the machine you’ve bogged and walk away.”

She advocates that this is exactly when you will need to ask a mate for help.

Ms O’Brien educated the workshop attendees on some of the worrying signs to look

out for in loved ones which may signal that suicide is being considered.

“If you see someone cleaning out their shed and giving away important things to others, suddenly stopping an activity that was previously important to them, like playing football, or withdrawing from friends and family, these may be signs that someone is bogged,” she said.

Ms O’Brien highlighted that men and women are different in the way they speak about problems, with men preferring to talk about facts rather than feelings and positioning themselves shoulder-to-shoulder while women are more likely to face each other.

“A great place to talk with teenage boys is sitting in a vehicle,” she suggested, “where you don’t have to be looking at each other.

“You can have the best conversations that way,” she said.

Ms O’Brien reminded her

listeners that men need ‘mantime’ away with mates or on their own.

“And it usually involves a fire,” she said.

“Don’t feel guilty for doing

“Men are programmed to want to take care of their family and look after others, but they have to look after

Police target domestic and family violence offenders

POLICE charged more than 550 people during a fourday operation targeting the state’s most dangerous domestic and family violence offenders.

Operation Amarok VI’ ran from 15 to 18 May 2024, involving every police area command and district across the state, including Coffs-Clarence and Mid North Coast Police Districts.

The Domestic and Family Violence Registry led Operation Amarok VI, which also involved officers from each region’s Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team (DVHROT), along with specialist officers from Raptor Squad, Youth Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and the Police Transport Command.

During the four-day operation, police arrested 554 offenders and laid a total of 1070 charges.

Significantly, 226 of those arrested were wanted by police for serious domestic violence offences.

Minister for Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley says Operation Amarok sends a strong message to perpetrators of domestic and family violence.

“These results show how seriously the NSW Police Force take domestic and family violence - this abhorrent behaviour is not tolerated.

“Anyone who commits this heinous crime can expect a knock at their door.

“Operation Amarok is just one part of the police response.

“Last year, almost 150,000 calls for assistance were made to the NSWPF for domestic violence-related matters.

“This shows the severity of the situation, the huge amount of police time and resources that go into addressing this epidemic and how important it is for prevention, early intervention and crisis support services to work together.”

said officers executed significant arrest numbers in regional communities.

“These offenders pose a significant threat to their victims, as well as family members and the wider community.

“We demonstrated last week that we will target and arrest the offenders no matter where they are located.

“We also saw arrests for offences that occurred allegedly while the offender was in jail.

"These Amarok VI results send a powerful message to offenders, and the community at large, that we do not tolerate domestic and family violence in any form, and our efforts will continue.”

On the Mid North Coast, a 25-year-old man was arrested by officers from Coffs Clarence Police District after he allegedly assaulted a woman before then assaulting two officers when they attempted to arrest him.

During the alleged incident, on 17 May 2024, the man fled after assaulting the officers, however was located and arrested a short time later.

The man allegedly continued to be aggressive and violent towards the

police during his arrest. He was charged with breaching an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (ADVO), resisting arrest, assaulting police, intimidation (DV), and intimidating a police officer.

Further south, a 55-yearold man has been charged following the alleged assault on a 62-year-old woman at a residence on Mitchell Circuit, Port Macquarie on Wednesday 24 April.

Following inquiries, officers attached to the Mid North Coast Police District attended a residence on Church Street, Port Macquarie about 12.45pm on Wednesday 15 May 2024, where they arrested a 55-year-old man.

He was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with multiple offences.

A 53-year-old man was arrested in West Kempsey following an alleged domestic assault.

About 12.50pm on 15 May it’s alleged the man and a 47-year-old woman had an argument inside a home on Colin Tait Avenue, West Kempsey.

During the argument it’s alleged the man used an imitation firearm to threaten the woman before police were called.

Officers from Mid North

Coast PD searched the home and located and seized an imitation firearm along with an amount of cannabis.

He was taken to Kempsey Police Station and charged with multiple offences.

A 32-year-old woman has been charged following the alleged assault of a 37-yearold woman at a residence on Leith Street, West Kempsey, about 10.30am on Thursday 16 May 2024.

Officers attached to the Coffs Harbour Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team arrested the woman and took her to Kempsey Police Station where she was charged.

NAMBUCCA VALLEY COUNCIL AMENDMENTS TO THE NAMBUCCA LOCAL ENVIRONMENTAL PLAN 2010

Nambucca Valley Council is presently seeking public comment on proposed amendments to the Nambucca Local Environmental Plan 2010 (LEP). The intention of the planning proposal is to alter the zoning of various pieces of land, remove the need for a development application to close a public road, and increase the ability to erect dual occupancies within residential zones. The lots which are intended to be rezoned are Lot 481 DP 700681 - 2 South Arm Road, Bowraville, Lot 1 DP 71614025 – 25 Egan Street, North Macksville, Lot 7 DP 1177524 - Tilly Willy Street, Macksville and Lot 3 DP 246173 & Lots 8, 9, 10, 13, 18, 19 & 20 DP 1007431 – Giinagay Way, Warrell Creek.

Climate action conversations

COFFS Harbour, Kempsey and Port Macquarie have been announced as locations for climate action discussions hosted by Voices4Cowper.

The ‘Climate action conversation: Solutions for a sustainable future’ discussions will focus on exploring options and opportunities for climate solutions within the region, addressing concerns raised during the recent listening campaign held by Voices4Cowper.

‘’Throughout our recent listening campaign, when we asked people what they loved about living in the area, the natural environment - the

ocean and the forests - was consistently ranked highly,” said Bec Davis, Co-Chair of Voices4Cowper.

“Unsurprisingly then, climate change and the

environment were also high on the list of concerns in our conversations.’’

Each event will feature a conversation between people with experience in

climate action and will be of interest to those concerned about fire and flood in coastal villages and the role of land management in climate solutions.

Rare gems and minerals on display

THE Nambucca-Macleay Gem and Mineral Club’s Annual Fundraising Auction returns to the Macksville Showgrounds on Saturday 1 June, with viewing commencing at 9am and auction from 10am.

Entry to the event is free.

The conversations will delve into the current state of play in climate resilience and land-based mitigation, as well as the implications for government policy and political representation.

The events will feature regenerative farmer and educator Lorraine Gordon and Dr Hanabeth Luke, a Senior Lecturer in Regenerative Agriculture and founding convenor of the Evans Area Resilience Network.

Ms Luke ran as an Independent candidate for the seat of Page in the 2022 Federal Election.

‘’Our communities know only too well the impact extreme weather can have on our lives,” Ms Luke said.

“Policy reform and representation is needed at the highest level to support

our capacity to respond and adapt.”

Ms Gordon said there were many opportunities for those who own or manage land to “play their part in climate action”.

“We need to learn and share solutions and collaborate around these.”

The events will be held in Kempsey on Friday May 31 from 10:30am to 12:00 noon, in Port Macquarie on Sunday June 2 from 10am to 11:30am and in Coffs Harbour on Sunday June 2 from 4:30pm to 6pm.

Voices4Cowper formed in 2019 to advocate for independent political representation at the Federal level.

Political debate rages over proposed knife laws

NSW GREENS spokesperson for justice Sue Higginson says proposed new knife crime laws announced last week will invite police harassment and discrimination.

The NSW Government last week introduced legislation modelled on Queensland’s ‘Jack’s Law’ which will give Police powers to ‘wand’ or ‘scan’ people for knives without a warrant in designated areas.

Under the new legislation, a senior police officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner or above could turn on wanding powers to be used in designated areas including public transport stations and vehicles, shopping precincts, certain sporting venues and other public spaces.

The authority would last for twelve hours, with an option to extend as required.

Police could ‘wand’ any person in a designated area and request that person produce a metal object, if detected.

Failure to comply could result in a maximum penalty

of a fine of $5500.

Wanding powers could be turned on for areas where certain knife crime or knife possession offences have occurred in the last twelve months.

“Today we are introducing legislation modelled on new powers for Police to search and detect knives in public spaces, based on Queensland’s ‘Jack’s Law’,” Premier Chris Minns said.

“My hope is that these common sense reforms stop people from taking a knife into the community and prevent some of the devastating outcomes of knife related violence we have seen in recent months.

“The NSW Government is committed to tackling knife crime to keep our communities safe and these reforms send a strong message that knife crime is not tolerated.”

Minister for the Police and Counter-terrorism Yasmin Catley said, “Giving police the ability to ‘wand’ or ‘scan’ for knives in designated areas is a proactive step toward ensuring community safety.

Greens MLC Sue Higginson expressed concerns the “sweeping new powers” allow police to stop and search members of the public in “ordinary and public daily settings” without warrant or reasonable suspicion.

Higginson claims the move will “victimise marginalised communities”.

Nationals members meanwhile, do not believe the government is going far enough, with Shadow Minister for Police Paul Toole repeatedly questioning Police Minister Yasmin Catley on the limitations of the laws in Parliament last week.

“Apart from on public transport, why does the proposed Jack's Law fail to give police extra powers to act until there is an incident?” Mr Toole queried.

Plan of management to be developed for Farringdon Fields

THE Farringdon Fields and the adjoining culturally significant Bellwood Sacred Site were again under discussion at the meeting of Nambucca Valley Council last Thursday in Macksville.

“This is a highly significant site (not just) throughout the area of New South Wales, not but also Australia,” Gumbaynnggir Elder and Nambucca Valley Councillor Martin Ballangarry told the Council.

According to Keegan Noble, Nambucca Valley Council’s Environment Project Officer, the Farringdon Fields, an area of 5.9 hectares, was destined to be three playing fields under a long term development plan.

However, an amenities block is the only component of the plan which has been completed.

The fields are located adjacent to Bellwood Sacred Site, an initiation site of great significance which, in Gumbaynnggir culture, women and children should not visit or even

discuss.

So, although they were identified as a future sportsground in 1995, the fields have not been used for this purpose since.

Besides the cultural concerns, drainage issues affect most of the fields because the land was once a coastal wetland.

A determination by the Federal Government in 2019 that the significant Aboriginal area is under threat and must be protected and preserved, means that no person can enter the area without approval from a Gumbaynggirr Elder or the Nambucca Heads Local Aboriginal Land Council.

Currently Gumbaynggirr Elders have granted permission to Council and their staff to carry out maintenance activities in the area.

In 2015, Nambucca Valley Council resolved to create a master plan to revegetate the existing grassed areas of the Farringdon Fields but this plan was never adopted.

In September of last year,

Council received notification that the NSW Department of Planning and Environment - Heritage NSW intended to declare the Bellwood Sacred Site and Farringdon Fields an Aboriginal Place under section 84 of the National Parks and Wildlife Act.

Council resolved to support the proposal so long as they could continue to access the area to complete infrastructure and land maintenance.

Currently the ‘Place’ declaration has not yet been made.

Last week councillors again voted to create a plan for the management of the area including the fields.

They resolved to consult with Aboriginal stakeholders and the Gaagal Wanggaan Board of Management in drafting this plan.

An adjoining section of bushland is still in the hands of private owners and, according to Mayor Rhonda Hoban, making this land public is a long and complex process that is already underway.

“We’re asking the Federal Government to fund the purchase of the land that presumably will later be added as culturally significant,” Mayor Hoban explained when asking

that this also be considered in the creation of a 'Plan of Management’ for the fields.

When completed, the draft ‘Plan of Management’ will be exhibited publicly for the community at large.

Volunteers undertake Scotts Head weed work

SCOTTS Head Dune Care volunteers, Reflections staff and Landcare staff conducted a working morning on Saturday 18 May, accomplishing the equivalent of a full week’s work.

The crews managed, with considerable effort, to fill eight skip

bins with weeds and were later rewarded with a sausage sizzle, coffee and cake.

Wearing long pants, long sleeves, hat and sunscreen for safety, keen participants met near Scotts Head Surf Club at 8:30am.

According to the NSW Coastal Council, dunes are an “integral part” of our coastal environment.

“Not only do they provide a reserve supply of sand for use by waves during storms, they are the basis of important ecosystems,

supporting valuable communities of plants and animals.

“As such they initially provided resources and shelter for Aboriginal people, generating cultural values

that remain important today.

“More diverse activity resulted from European settlement, providing the basis for another set of social values.”

Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has chipped in with a grant of $30,000 towards revegetation of the area and Council has pledged to match this with funds from the Environmental Levy.

Focused on coastal protection works to help dune revegetation and rehabilitation, Scotts Head Dune Care was the first Dune Care group established in NSW, and strongly encourages new members to get involved.

CELEBRATING 60 years of The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal, the Nambucca River Corps team happily stepped out onto the streets this week with their trusty collection buckets.

Volunteers will continue the collection until 26 May.

In its 60-year history, millions of lives have been impacted by the generosity of the Australian community.

“Many of those generous people are living on the Mid North Coast,” said Major Sharon Sandercock-Brown, Nambucca River Corps.

“Here is your opportunity to join us caring for our valley community once again.

“Through to Sunday 26 May we will be out and about collecting from our valley community to support the work The Salvation Army does in the valley community.”

Nambucca Heads Thai community celebrate culture

THAI women and girls from Nambucca Heads enjoyed the Songkran Festival in Coffs Harbour in April, coming home with first and second place in the Miss Songkran 2024 contest.

This festival marked the Thai New Year and the nation’s Water Festival.

“Our event included participants from the Thai community spanning from Port Macquarie to Grafton,” Mia Kelsey from Nambucca Heads told News Of The Area.

“We showcased a costume parade, Thai dancing and a Thai pageant.”

Mia Kelsey was crowned as Miss Songkran 2024 and second-place winner was Gena Williams, both from Nambucca Heads.

On Sunday 26 May, the local Thai girls will be participating in the postponed Harmony Day in Coffs Harbour, taking place at the Botanic Gardens alongside the All One under the Sun festival.

“For Harmony Day our Thai community will

demonstrate various aspects of our rich culture,” said Mia.

“We will perform traditional Thai dances, the carving of fruits and vegetables and demonstrate banana leaf and rose folding.

“Additionally, there will be a parade featuring different Thai costumes, highlighting the beauty and diversity of our heritage."

Mia spoke of how the traditional dance performances, delicious Thai food, and coming together brings back memories of home.

“Such festivals allow our local Thai community to come together and celebrate our culture in our homeaway-from-home.

“Participating in Harmony Day is a great opportunity as it promotes cultural awareness, and inclusivity, builds community connections and educates people about our own and other’s cultures.”

Mia said these cultural celebrations are a time of joy, happiness and togetherness, where family and friends come together to participate in meaningful rituals and festive activities.

Lily Kelsey from Nambucca Heads and James (Pi Chi) from Coffs Harbour did a wonderful job hosting the Songkran event and explaining the significance to those unfamiliar with the day.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the Thai Par Kie group from Coffs Harbour for organising such a wonderful day for us all,” said Mia.

The Songkran pageant competition is described as a “fun-spirited, lively event that brings together a diverse range of participants”.

The participants showcase and are judged on their public speaking skills, special talents and their answers to impromptu questions.

This year there were six contestants ranging in age from fourteen to 30 from across the Mid North Coast: Mia Kelsey, Gena Williams, Yamin Aarts, Nattakarn Klinsuwan, Lauren Pengilly and Padcharapan Sopa.

Mia said Songkran is a “cherished tradition” which connects her to her heritage.

“It is one of the most significant holidays in Thailand and is known for its

water

“The water fights are an iconic part of Songkran where people use anything they can to splash water on others.

“This is a fun and playful tradition that I love to participate in.”

“This practice also symbolises the washing away of bad luck and the welcoming of the new year

with a fresh start.”

Another reason Songkran is important is the family gatherings.

“The day means everyone coming together and sharing the values and significance of the day.”

During Songkran, families engage in meaningful activities such as preparing food, participating in religious ceremonies and performing respectful rituals for elders.

‘Funny, quirky and wonderfully performed’

As the Wyz Wimmin begin to think about their next production, they are putting out a call for members who can assist.

A SEASONED veteran of screen and stage has given the Wyz Wimmin & Friends’ new production, ‘Into the Spotlight’, a rave review.

Mark Fitzpatrick is the author of eighteen feature films and has written, directed or performed in many stage productions.

He has worked with Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger and Jackie Chan, and was in the audience for the sellout performance of the Wyz Wimmin & Friends’

production of ‘Into the Spotlight’ at the Nambucca Community and Arts Centre on 11 May.

“It was funny, quirky and wonderfully performed,” Mark summarised the performance.

“I was pleasantly surprised at not only the performances but the whole production.

“I thought Anne (Joyce) did a wonderful job directing.

“The actors played their roles exquisitely.

“I thought Helen (Kirkpatrick) was hilarious.

“It's not easy playing a character who is an actor, then seeing that character as an actor playing a role in a play.

“I thought the transformation from the actors to their Cinderella characters was brilliant, because I still saw the DNA of their stage characters in their Cinderella roles.

“It was so believable that these 'amateur actors' in the play then 'performed' in a play within the play.”

Assisted by a Club Grant from Nambucca RSL Club, the production attracted more than 350 patrons.

“We need front of house personnel, technically adept people who can handle online ticketing, those with a flair for catering and people with Facebook skills among other things,” a spokesperson for the group said.

THERE’S a buzz around the Botanic Gardens in Coffs Harbour as a major cultural celebration prepares to open on Sunday 26 May.

Themed ‘In Harmony on the Coffs Coast’, the All One Under the Sun festival will celebrate multiculturalism through live music, dance, workshops, and a multitude of activities for all ages performed on the Gurray Jaliija Garugun Ngayanda (All One Under the Sun) stage.

“After opening with the Jalay Jalay Gumbaynggirr dance troupe we are excited to have some of our legendary local Gumbaynggirr bandsJumbaal Dreaming and Manduway and the Black Figs - as well as a performance by YT Dingo with special guest Clark Webb, performing their new single Ngarranga Wajaar,” Project Coordinator Naomi Steinborner from Blue Sky Community Services told News Of The Area.

“We will also welcome local cultural community dance groups alongside visiting international performers Lembaga Buana, a music and dance troupe from Aceh province in Indonesia, as well as First Nations hip hop group Prodikal -1 featuring Yuin Djiringanj man Warren Foster Junior from the community of Wallaga Lake on the South Coast of NSW."

Sheehan.

“Ali’s music always inspires a dance circle where people can join in with local c o m m u n i t y members, and is always a highlight of these events for me,” said Naomi.

Excitement is also building for the launch of this year’s All One Under the Sun Collective song ‘Same Moon as I’, alongside performances of other tracks created by young people and Grow the Music over the duration of this three-year All One Under the Sun project.

The All One Under the Sun Festival is funded by Multicultural NSW and the City of Coffs Harbour, with support from many local organisations and community groups.

“It's a fantastic opportunity for cultural immersion and to celebrate our rich multicultural community,” said Naomi.

“You can participate in a drumming, dance or hip-hop workshop, try your hand at kite making, weaving or street art, watch a cooking demonstration, and even have a boogie in the silent disco.

“All activities are free, with multicultural food stalls selling delicious food from all over the world.

“We are so fortunate here on the Coffs Coast to be surrounded by such a diverse array of cultures,” Naomi added.

hosted the Grafton Ghosts on Saturday in four Grades at Allan Gillett Oval.

Stephen Blair was the star of the show in First Grade as the Sea Eagles won the match 34-22 on a wet, windy, and cold afternoon.

Blair scored three tries, all of them the result of individual brilliance.

His second try involving a chip and chase, juggle and fend was one to behold.

Another two tries came from centre Brodie Bartlett, his first from a loose Ghosts pass which he picked up and

performances that we have to offer at this year’s event.

“Get there early to find a parking spot, and create your own schedule for all the activities you want to try, performances you want to see, and workshops you want to participate in.”

Set within the grounds of the Coffs Harbour Botanic Garden on beautiful Gumbaynggirr country, this family-friendly event encourages people to immerse themselves in the many cultures that make up our community.

Community expectations: A stepfather’s duty

MARY divorced her first husband and has been living with her two sons, Peter and Paul as a single mother for the last couple of years.

Mary meets David and after dating for several months, they decide to purchase a home and move-in together.

Peter and Paul were aged five and six at the time.

David assumes the role of a de facto father to Mary’s sons, until they move-out in their early adult years.

Mary and David’s relationship spans 20 years before breaking-down following an argument in which Mary’s sons side with her.

Mary and David negotiate a property settlement and David has no contact with Mary or her sons for several years before he passes-away, aged 60.

David gifts an estate worth $1 million, to his brother.

David leaves a note with his will, stating that he had been grateful to his brother for his support after his separation from Mary.

Peter and Paul make claims against David’s estate.

Having finalised the property settlement years earlier, Mary makes no claim on David’s estate.

Although stepchildren are not automatically eligible to claim, the Court finds that Peter and Paul are eligible to make a claim because they lived in the same house as David and during that time, were partly dependent upon him for accommodation, food and education.

The Court finds that Peter and Paul are entitled to an award because they perceived David to be a father figure in circumstances where they had no contact with their biological father.

They ask the Court to award them each $200,000.

In consideration of the estrangement between the parties, the Court is unwilling to determine fault, but expresses doubt that the community would expect for David to make provision for Peter and Paul other than relatively small legacies.

The Court assesses the plaintiffs’ respective needs and awards Peter $60,000 and Paul, $50,000 plus their legal costs.

I have been complaining about stray dogs roaming this town and the danger they create.

There's a saying, 'it's like riding a bike' meaning it's a skill that stays with you, but if you haven't ridden since you pretended you were a BMX Bandit back when Nicole Kidman had red hair and freckles, then I'd do a bit of preparation.

Firstly, get used to the seat.

A bike seat is about as comfortable as riding bareback on an emaciated mare.

Few things can make your ride less enjoyable, so if the seat isn't adequate, you should consider swapping it for one with more padding.

Walker's four-goal blitz powers Strikers to victory

Concerns about potential rustiness were swiftly dispelled as the Strikers delivered a dominant performance in challenging, cold, and windy conditions.

Facing a stiff southerly gale in the first half, the Strikers initially struggled with Coffs' long-ball strategy but grew increasingly confident as the game progressed.

"The battle in the middle of the park was slowly turning our way with Lily Woodward, Brindley White and Allie Hancock starting to dictate the game's pace,” Jones said.

"Three clear-cut chances fell to us, and after a goalmouth scramble, Allie Hancock bundled the ball into the net."

Coffs City United capitalised on the wind advantage and equalised in the 37th minute with a stunning 25-metre strike from Holly Trimble.

However, Walker's brilliance soon shifted the momentum decisively in Nambucca's favour.

"The 1-1 scoreline didn't last long," Jones explained.

“A build up from the back and a through ball found a rampaging Wulaaren Walker on the left who beat her marker, cut inside the central defender and curled a great shot into the top left of the net.

“2-1 at half time was a good outcome; the players felt they weren’t coping with the wind very well, so again manager Kelly Trisley stressed

“We are building something really special here, our new players like Emily Smith and Evie O’Brian are fitting nicely with the team.

“There is not much to be unhappy about at this stage of the season,” Jones said.

The Nambucca Strikers’ next match is a trip north for a top of the table clash against the Corindi Breakers.

suggest that needs to be looked at. A team of Darcy, Reese, Angry, a 6 and a 7 for instance would take some beating. No date as yet decided.

Another sheet is also up for the Single Gender Men's pennants to be played on Tuesdays, would you believe it, between Aug 20 and Oct 22. No decision yet made on whether it is am or pm and looking at the empty sheet, I doubt anyone cares..

Dave Ogilvy tells me there is a sheet on the board for players restricted to using an arm. I couldn't find it so more details next report.

After working together for more than a decade, the writers of this long-running forensics procedural most likely grew tired of the will-they-or-won’t-they tension between Nikki (Emilia Fox, pictured) and Jack (David Caves) and resolved to be done with it and let them fall in love. It’s a bold move that has irked some, but the general grumpiness about this season should arguably be directed at the flimsy writing. But twentysix seasons in, it’s forgivable if the characters and script don’t hum with the vigour and believability they used to. In “Star Part 1”, the underbelly of social media and influencers is explored after a death at a music festival.

Daniel also spends much of

his school holidays patrolling local beaches as a lifeguard. The competition program over the next twelve months looks just as busy for Daniel, beginning with the Oceania Games in Fiji next month, the World Under 20

Athletics Championships in Peru in August, and then back on the track for another domestic racing season.

In relation to his goals for the upcoming international track meetings, Daniel said, "I need to

remain realistic in Peru, as I will be among the youngest competitors there, so primarily running a personal best time is step one, and hoping to make the 1500m final on the back of that.

"The objective over the past few years has been to achieve maximum return on minimum investment, not exhausting myself

AN exceptional performance from sixteen-year-old Hyland Park runner Daniel Williams at the National Athletics Titles in Adelaide last month saw him take home gold in both the Under 20 and Under 18 1500m events. Williams was able to outpace some of his more experienced rivals in the under 20 event and crossed

the line with a convincing winning margin.

“Six days later in the under 18 event the approach was a little different as Daniel continually lifted the speed and cleared out from the remainder of the field for an emphatic win that was also a new championship record, meaning no athlete has been that quick at any previous under 18 national title,” Daniel’s Coach Andrew

Rowlings told News Of The Area.
