Safety Upgrades For Myall Way Intersection AFTER years of community campaigning, major safety upgrades are set to be delivered at the Myall Way/Pacific Highway intersection, and on Bombah Point Road towards the ferry wharf.

Flashing lights will be installed at the intersection turning into Tea Gardens, with flexible wire rope barriers along the edges.

Sight restrictions will be removed to allow drivers to see when to slow down and give way, as required.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie said the roadworks were expected to be completed in coming months.

“There’s a high risk of crashes at this very busy junction and we want that risk minimised.

“The Road Safety Program is one of many infrastructure grant programs the Federal Coalition Government has put in place, with urging by The Nationals in Government, to target safety improvements on our regional roads,” Dr Gillespie said.

The $750,000 project on Myall Way will receive $600,000 from the Federal Coalition Government and $150,000 from the NSW Government under the Road Safety Program.

“I have been agitating inside Federal government and most particularly inside State government departments for them to get cracking on the next phase of upgrading the Pacific Highway.

“There are many intersections that need to be grade separated.

“These should go up the priority list and I’ll be fighting for Federal funds to contribute,” Dr Gillespie said.

Dr Gillespie also recently inspected the completed sealing of Bombah Point Road, leading to Bombah Point ferry wharf on Two Mile Lake, in the Myall Lakes National Park.

“This is one of the prettiest vehicle ferry crossings I know of in the beautiful Myall Lakes and Bombah Point Road is well

used by tourists, as well as locals,” Dr Gillespie said.

Hawks Nest

The completion of the reconstruction of road pavement on Kularoo Dr, Hawks Nest including widening of road pavement, installation of drainage systems and rectification of traffic signage for approximately 500m has been reported as completed.

Bombah Point

Construction of a sealed road pavement 2.5km in length from the end of the existing sealed road for approximately 2.4km to the National Park Boundary in Bombah Point has been completed.

Bulahdelah

The reconstruction of a sealed road pavement between Markwell Road and Frys Bridge in Bulahdelah has currently been designed, with the project aimed to be completed by June 2022.

completed 2.4km of road sealing, making Bombah Point Road safer and more accessible for motorists.

Stroud

An existing segment (60) of The Branch Lane will be sealed in the coming months, with work estimated to begin in March and completion by June 2022.

Stroud will also see the reconstruction and upgrade to road pavement from Mill Ck Bridge for 1.4km North, joining to St Clairs.

Alongside this there will be intersection upgrades and stormwater additions.

Currently, the reconstruction aims to be complete by May 2022.

Lilly Pilly Bridge will be replaced by a two-lane concrete culvert which will be partially funded through the Fixing Country Bridges Program.

Bridge construction is underway, with completion by April 2022.

an Isuzu D-Max utility travelling southbound collided with a motorcycle and a Toyota station wagon, both travelling northbound.

The male motorcyclist died at the scene.

The female driver of the Toyota was trapped by confinement; however, she died at the scene a short time later.

A female passenger of the Toyota was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.

The male driver of the Isuzu suffered minor injuries and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist

officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Northbound lanes of the Pacific Highway remained closed for a significant period of time, with a contraflow which was set up in one of the two southbound lanes Detective Superintendent Chad Gillies of the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District told News Of The Area that locals should take care on roads given the current weather.

“We’ve already seen a number of serious, severe motor vehicle collisions this week in our area.

“A lot of wet weather is predicted over the upcoming weeks so please take care on our roads; obey the rules, drive to the conditions and have a safe week,” Superintendent Gillies said.

Hawks Nest local Gordon Grainger stated this accident is another devastating loss to the community but is hopeful

that future crashes will be prevented by the $750,000 funding announced this week to improve safety

at the Myall Way/Pacific Highway intersection.

There is also a fashion show, an arts and crafts show, and over 30 stalls showcasing community groups, sporting clubs, senior support services, local businesses, and government services.

Fashion Show organiser Carole Richards, stated, “The fashion show is on the main stage at 1pm highlighting outfits from local boutiques, Little Faith and Vitamin Bead.

“We also have some

fabulous Mystery Door prizes and an all-ages Easter Colouring-In Competition.

“Free tickets and entries are available on the day at the Welcome Stall.”

The arts and craft exhibition is significant for many local artists who are keen to share their creative works in person now that COVID restrictions have eased.

Finally, we have some certainty around electronic executions of documents by companies with the passing of the Corporations Amendment (Meetings and Documents) Bill 2021 (Cth) which is effective from 22 February 2022.

The long-awaited amendment significantly improves the ease of executing documents and holding company meetings to be more in line with the technology-based approach in doing business in the 21st century.

The main changes are: • Split executions are now recognised as an effective method of execution.

• Sections 126 and 127 of the Corporations Act 2001 now allow for documents to be duly executed by companies in a ‘technology neutral manner’.

• A range of documents, including deeds and company meeting documents, can now be executed in a ‘technology neutral manner’ including online execution platforms.

• The issue of sole director

companies with no company secretary has been addressed. companies with a sole director (and no company secretary) may now execute documents under the statutory framework of the Corporations Act 2001.

• Company meetings can now be held in a hybrid video and physical format. However, wholly video meetings can only be held if it is expressly permitted by a company’s constitution.

• ASIC and other regulatory authorities will now be required to accept executions made pursuant to the amendments to the Corporations Act 2001 under the Bill.

The Bill is a welcome relief to company directors, shareholders and advisors in circumstances where transactional matters are increasingly conducted remotely and using technology instead of the old wet ink signature requirements of the past.

Plans to dredge Myall River scheduled for 2025

MIDCOAST Council has advised plans for the Myall River with the next dredging scheduled for 2025.

At the recent MidCoast Council on 23 March 2022, a number of questions with notice were raised by Councillor Peter Howard, including that of plans for the Myall River.

MidCoast Council Director for Liveable Communities Paul De Szell discussed that Council undertakes regular dredging in the lower Myall River at two main locations including Corrie Channel and Eastern Channel.

Director Szell said that under the NSW Government Boating Access Dredging program, funding is allocated to Councils for local dredging projects to ensure the safe navigation of channels and entrances.

“Council maintains seven navigational dredging projects in the MidCoast with the lower Myall River being one of them.

‘They are all minimum five-year intervals and the next dredging for Myall River is scheduled for mid 2025,” he said.

The Corrie Channel is the designated navigation channel running around the western

side of Corrie Island.

“This channel is dredged approximately every five to ten years subject to survey identifying necessity based on depth and width,” Mr De Szell said.

Dredging was undertaken in the late 1990s, 2010 and 2016.

MidCoast Council estimates that approximately 25,000m3 is moved each time, costing approximately $600,000$700,000 depending on deposition site as infill rates vary depending on the condition of the eastern channel and outflow from the Myall Lakes.

The Eastern Channel is the original channel on the Eastern side of Corrie Island.

“The Eastern Channel is within an extremely dynamic environment due to exposure to swell and wind waves and major currents in the Port and it provides a temporary navigation benefit especially to small craft,” he said.

Mr De Szell says that the dredging of the Eastern Channel provides a stockpile for the Jimmys Beach Sand Nourishment Program with 100,000–120,000m3 dredged every five years at a cost of $1.7M. Dredging was undertaken in both 2015 and mid 2020

with scheduled plans for mid 2025 for the next dredge.

Myall River Action Group advocate Gordon Grainger says that although action has been taken, the Council needs to re-evaluate plans.

“The actual fact is that we will lose the Eastern entrance within three years so we would like to see dredging on the basis of every three years, but alternatively we have provided Council with drone shots taken monthly which clearly show that the river entrance is changing and that nature is trying to rebuild Myall Point,” Mr Grainger said.

Myall Point was a deepwater channel which stretched from Winda Woppa (where it is now) 2.7km across towards Nelson Bay. The channel allowed

The joint statement was signed by MidCoast Mayor Claire Pontin, and Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes; neither the Mayor of Port Stephens or Port Stephens Councillors were signatories to the statement.

The statement is calling on the Federal Government to: a. Lead the country in delivering on an ambitious emissions reduction target this decade, in partnership with state and local governments, to respond to accelerating climate change at the scale and pace required. b.

Increase funding sources to councils for

responding to climate impacts, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions, including providing a minimum of $200 million a year in the form of a disaster mitigation fund and an additional $200 million over four years for a local government climate response partnership. c. Invest in preparing before climate disasters strike and take responsibility for coordination of climate impact responses to ensure consistency and clearly delineated responsibilities between different levels of government. d. Ensure all disaster response funding extends

After several houses and a lighthouse were built on the Peninsula, trees were chopped down and subsequently, when a cyclone hit the Peninsula in 1927, it was wiped out resulting in the sand which is now left in the Bay. “Nature is trying to rebuild it (Myall Point) and so we’re asking Council to change the profile from an immediate left-hand dredge to allowing Myall Point to be rebuilt.

Mr Grainger says that if that were to recur, then it would allow for a dredging program that would more than likely be on a five-yearbasis “Initially, because of so many different Government agencies which we had to work with to obtain the original dredging, Council was required to follow the old five-year profile.

“Council will need to start working now to change that profile and ensure we can maintain the river,” Gordon said.

“We urgently need to address the root cause of the heightened storm threat climate change,” she said.

Dr Portia Odell, director of the Cities Power Partnership, Australia’s largest network of local governments taking action on climate change, said, “Local governments were on the frontlines of climate impacts and needed more support.

“We can no longer

leave councils and their communities alone and with little access to essential services, and expect them to spend millions to fix the damages of delayed climate action,” said Dr Odell.

“We know that local governments lack the adequate funding and support they need to rebuild their communities in a way that strengthens resilience and takes into account the increasing climate risks.

“The Federal Government must step up to protect communities from catastrophic climate shocks.”

Silverchair singer charged with high-range PCA following crash q

FORMER Silverchair Frontman Daniel Johns has been charged with high-range drink driving following a crash on the Pacific Highway.

At approximately 10.30pm on Wednesday 23 March 2022, police allege that Johns exited a service centre on the Pacific Highway at North Arm Cove in a grey SUV to travel north.

A short time later, the northbound SUV and a southbound van collided in the southbound lane, with both vehicles coming to a rest in a nearby nature strip.

Emergency services were called and attended a short time later.

The van had two occupants - a 51-yearold male driver and a 55-year-old female passenger who were treated at the scene.

The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment and has since been released.

42-year-old Daniel Johns was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District conducted a roadside breath test.

The test returned a positive result, and Johns was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.157.

"As you know my mental health is a work in progress.

"I have good days and bad days, but it is something I always have to manage.

"Over the last week I began to experience panic attacks.

"Last night I got lost while driving and was in an accident.

"I am ok - everyone's ok,” he said.

MidCoast Council update on Lismore Flood MIDCOAST Council has acknowledged the devastating impacts of the flooding in New South Wales.

Moved in a Mayoral Minute by Mayor Claire Pontin, an update regarding the New South Wales natural disaster was provided.

“I want to acknowledge the impacts of the recent devastating floods in New South Wales, particularly in the Lismore Local Government Area.

“These have had

The Mayor continued to discuss efforts of the MidCoast Council to assist, through the provision of two water and wastewater staff to aid Lismore City Council.

“Repairs to Lismore’s water and sewage system are time critical and Council has assisted in both of these areas,” Mayor Pointin said.

The team undertook repairs and reinstalled water meters damaged by the flood and aided

recovery efforts to get the sewer system operational again.

Mayor Pontin stated that there are many “concerned, generous and caring people” who want to assist the flood by donating to flood affected families.

Council provide update on Singing Bridge

COUNCILLOR Peter Howard has raised questions regarding the Singing Bridge in Hawks Nest in the recent MidCoast Council meeting on 23 March 2022.

“There have been concerns raised by residents and community groups in the Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens area over the safety and condition of the Singing Bridge, urging Council to undertake some immediate repairs and maintenance including to the guard rails, pedestrian access and the pelican spikes,” Cr Howard

said.

Cr Howard asked the Director of Infrastructure and Engineering Services Robert Scott, whether there are any undergoing plans to ensure this maintenance is taken.

Mr Scott says that the MidCoast Council conducts an annual bridge program in which the Singing Bridge is inspected and maintained.

“The most obvious concerns (of the bridge) are largely aesthetic and associated with a failed coating of the railings some years ago.

“As a result, it will likely

require replacement of the railings with suitable hot dip galvanised sections at some time,” Mr Scott said The Council also has plans to subject the bridge to an underwater inspection to monitor the condition of the structure below the waterline in 2022 as well as plans regarding pedestrian use.

“There are plans for modification of the pedestrian facilities to allow scooter traffic to be one way on either side of the bridge.

“This will make the current pedestrian situation safer for those using mobility

aids and alleviate the risk that two people travelling in opposite directions will meet in the middle of the bridge,” Mr Scott said.

The Singing Bridge has been the topic of much discussion within the local community, with many residents raising concerns

regarding the narrow footpaths on the Singing Bridge and the potential for a serious accident for some time.

A number of projects are in their execution phase, comprising of Bulahdelah Showground Fencing and Cattle Shed (cattle shed complete, fencing arrived ready for installation), Hawks Nest Providence Park Amenities (Construction commenced with the ETA for completion, June 2022 due to

weather delays and additional landscaping works), Providence Park Tea Gardens Playground and Amenities (project completion delayed until early 2022 due to inclement weather and supply issues).

There is one project currently in the initiation phase for Myall Lakes - the Bulahdelah Lions Park Amenities which is receiving $300,000 in funding.

A NUMBER of projects have been funded through MidCoast Council’s Community Spaces Capital Works Program.

MidCoast Council Project Manager for Community Spaces, Peter Kennewell, said that there are a number of different projects underway.

“The current works underway include seven Capital Renewal Works Projects, three beach access projects, 54 grant funded projects as well as thirteen projects now marked as completed,” Mr Kennewell said.

Aviary as Wildlife Enclosure in Pindimar Council is currently working with W.I.N.C, Bat Society of Australia, WIRES, National Parks and Wildlife care groups/ environmental groups to determine appropriate areas for the establishment of flying fox care enclosures.

This is currently progressing with replies received from W.I.N.C, FAWNA, Aust’n Bat Society and the NSW Wildlife Council providing feedback and guidance on the use of an aviary as a wildlife enclosure at 2 Morantes Street, Pindimar.

Winda Woppa Reserve Naming

The process is underway as of 10 April 2022, to establish and formalise a Public Reserve Naming Policy before engaging with stakeholders regarding renaming Winda Woppa Reserve to a shortened name such as Pritchard’s Park.

Paper Subdivisions After extending the exhibition period for the Rural Strategy and Paper Subdivisions report, and seeking the State Government and Department of Planning support for the extension of the period, MidCoast Council are now seeking support from the State Government for funding and personnel to carry out the engagement and developing a landowner informed strategic plan for paper subdivisions.

The initial meeting for this stage was held in February 2022.

Bulahdelah Highway Service Centre The Bulahdelah Highway Service Centre Planning Proposal and Agreement has been deferred to the new Council for consideration.

its extreme disappointment regarding the National Parks and Wildlife decision to not support the Great Lakes Walk and Aquatic Trail.

The project will now be set down for a further review at a Councillor Workshop on a date prior to May 2022.

“The needs of older people in the MidCoast LGA are complicated by the distance between communities and facilities, limited transport options and difficulty accessing health services.”

Ms Watson says that these are some of the disadvantages of living in a local government area covering more than 10,000 square kilometres.

“It was important that these unique challenges were considered in the development of the MidCoast Council Ageing Strategy 2022-2026, so that the actions are relevant, achievable and impactful,” Ms Watson said.

The draft Ageing Strategy was developed after the first phase of community consultation, which took place between January and June 2021.

During this phase, approximately 700 people in 60 locations from the MidCoast LGA were consulted through methods including surveys, focus groups and pop- up stalls.

The draft Ageing Strategy was placed on exhibition for 28 business days from 14 October to 23 November 2021.

Alongside the in-person consultation, there were seven formal submissions and nine feedback survey responses which helped to shape the 27-page policy which has now been adopted by the Council.

“This all-of-community approach is considered important to build a strong, connected community and is important since some of the challenges identified through consultation are not the responsibility of Council (e.g. public transport and health service provision).

“By implementing these actions, it is expected that the MidCoast will become more age-friendly, communities will be more accessible and inclusive and older people will be empowered and have more opportunity to live healthy and fulfilled lives,” Ms Watson said.

MidCoast Ageing Strategy

THE MidCoast Ageing Strategy 2022-2026 has formally been endorsed by Council.

Approximately 27,000 people, or 29 percent of the population, in the MidCoast LGA are aged 65 years or older, compared to the NSW regional average of 20 percent.

By 2036, this is predicted to increase by 4.5 percent to 38,000 people, or 33.5 percent of the total population.

MidCoast Council Community Development Officer Calypso Watson says that with such a high proportion of the population being older, it is essential that MidCoast Council, local service providers and community organisations plan and prepare for the needs of an ageing population.

“The development of an Ageing Strategy is considered important to ensure that the needs of older people are noted so that our community is agefriendly and inclusive,” said

Just when you thought this hugely popular true crime drama series was done and dusted, the unbelievable headlines and story involving high-rolling Sydney financial advisor Melissa Caddick have inspired a new instalment. “I don’t buy shares, I buy shoes,” boasts the infamous con woman in this new, high-octane two-part story. Alleged to have stolen more than $40 million from clients, friends and family, Caddick disappeared after ASIC raided her home, with her severed, runner-clad foot found washed up on a beach three months later. FREE bridge lessons are being offered by HNBC member Shayne Fuller to beginners on Monday from 5-7pm at the Bridge Club in Yamba Street, Hawks Nest.

The Australian Bridge Federation supports this method of teaching American Standard bridge and you’ll

With the relaxation of the Government Covid-19 restrictions, club activities are now back to normal.

On Saturday 2 April the Club will hold a stand at the Seniors Week Expo where they will hold demonstrations of the game of Golf Croquet for anyone to come and try.

On Thursday 7 April the club will hold a Seniors Day for members of the community to come and try the game.

23 MARCH Well, these days the fickle weather determines the fate of most outdoor sports and lawn bowls is no exception, but today the weather gods were kind, and 54 bowlers took to the greens.

The morning winners were decided by the “lowest winning score” and Tom Short, Denis Ashbridge and Geoff Muggleton won with a score of 8.

The afternoon was

decided by the “lowest winning margin” and Gary Wynne, Col Fossey and Greg Smith had a margin of 1 to take the prize.

The first round of the Club Championship Pairs was scheduled for Saturday 26 March, but steady rain put a stop to that.

27 March After a pitch inspection this morning, it was determined that the grass green was playable and despite on and off again showers, the first round of the Club Major Pairs

commenced on a very soggy green.

Five matches were determined, and the results were as follows: Doug Andrews and Dave Perry were too strong for Rob Young and David Garcia winning 34-11.

Club Singles runner-up, Barry Goode teamed with Rick Islaub to record a good win over Bill Jackson and Ron Green, 28-17.

Graham Reynolds and Mark Nightingale had a comfortable win against Hylton Newman and Ron

Berczelly, 25-13.

Ross Barry has a new partner in Peter Gurney and they held all the aces in their match against Chris May and Alan Greenhalgh, winning 25-9.

The match-of-the-day had to be the tussle between the Geoffrey Muggleton, Dennis Ashbridge team and the Greg Smith, Jeff Baker combination.

Dennis and Geoffrey led all the way and managed a single shot advantage going into the final end.

They were down two in

the last end and Dennis’s last bowl failed to convert.

They lost 14-15.

There will be some interesting quarter final matches next week where Dave Perry and Doug Andrews oppose Barry Goode and Rick Islaub.

Graham Reynolds and Mark Nightingale will have their hands full taking on Chris Ross and Scott Fitzalan.

Peter Gurney and Ross Barry will play Mike Delacca and Leigh Hunt.

AFTER a week of rain at Karuah Bowls Club, a little drizzle wasn’t going to stop play this Sunday last.

Karuah and visiting Hamilton North bowlers were determined to get their planned social day of bowls played.

President of the Karuah Club, Jim Healey, said, ”Determination won the day, we were just a bit damp by the time we finished, but we finished.”

A full green of triples players competed on a slow and damp surface.

With much laughter and social banter, the teams vied for victory and a variety of prizes.

Stephen Gilchrist, the games secretary at Karuah said, “It was great fun and new friends were made even though we all had to put up with some gentle rain.”

Results were close enough that at the end of the day, an interclub draw was declared and all players retired indoors to the warm and dry club house to celebrate and enjoy a drink and the awarding of individual and rink prizes.

Many laughs were shared and some of the visiting bowlers even joined the

Karuah RSL and are now also members there.

Judy Green, the Karuah Ladies Bowls Club Games Secretary said, “By the finish, I was chilled to the bone but the friendship and camaraderie soon warmed me up.”

The bowl closest to the Jack scores 4 points, the next closest 3, then 2 then 1 point.

Bev Rhodes led all the way and defeated Sheril Johnson on the 27th end 152 v 118.

Bette Saillard and Judi Polak were “neck to neck” all the way, the score going in to the 30th and final end was Judi 146 v Bette 144 still anyone’s game.

Bulahdelah Golf Club

THE Vets played a single Stableford on Wednesday 23 March and M.South won with 38 pts on a c/b from M Donnelly.

H Pierson was 3rd with 37 pts on a c/b – most players didn’t manage 30 pts.

NTPs were J Stellema, G Willadsen, K Hughes.

The course was in great condition in spite of the weeks of rain, thanks to the hard work of staff and volunteers.

MidCoast Mayoral Column OVER the past few weeks, we have made several important submissions to the State Government on planning and marine protection issues.

Of these, the most significant was in relation to the draft Hunter Regional Plan 2041.

This plan proposes a strategic land use framework for the region.

While it presents many opportunities for the MidCoast there are key areas of concern for us that we have raised with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.

The density requirements outlined in the draft plan are more appropriate for large town centres and would have a significant impact on the character of our existing small coastal and rural towns and villages, including Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest.

We have heard clearly from our community, particularly during our recent consultation on our Housing Strategy, that any increase in the density of residential dwellings would be a key community concern.

We have also made a submission to the State on the draft Marine Parks Network Management Plan which covers, amongst others, the Port Stephens- Great Lakes marine park.

Overall we support the actions in the plan and have called for an additional action to protect catchments and sensitive waterways and support ecosystem services.

Singing Bridge I understand there have been some concerns regarding the safety and condition of the Singing Bridge.

While we acknowledge the bridge doesn’t look the best due to a failed coating of the railings, it is inspected and maintained as part of our annual bridge program.

This year the bridge will also be subject to an

underwater inspection to monitor the condition of the structure below the waterline.

We are progressing plans to modify the pedestrian aspect of the bridge to allow for scooter traffic to be one way on either side of the bridge.

This will improve the safety of the current pedestrian access.

Dingo behaviour We are continuing to monitor the behaviour of dingoes in the area, and work with both the University of NSW and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to manage interactions between humans and dingoes and to have a procedure in place to manage dingoes on land owned and managed by Council.

It is important to know that we do not undertake dingo baiting, offspring removal or wide scale eradication programs.

Event sponsorship applications open If you’re planning to hold an event or festival in the MidCoast local government area during the next two years, there is an opportunity to apply for consideration in our event sponsorship program.

There is support available for small and larger events ranging from local pop-ups to largerscale festivals.

The last few years have offered very limited opportunities for us to get together as communities, so we do really want to encourage the community to start thinking of ways to get back together and community events are a great way to do that.

They support community morale, mental health, cultural awareness and are good for the local economy.

Volunteers I’d also like to take this opportunity to recognise the amazing work of our volunteers. They play an invaluable role in our parks, reserves and facilities.

This time of year, with the growing conditions as they are – we really do rely on our volunteers and the work they do in our parks

All was in readiness for the Ladies’ Open Day on Thursday 24 March.

Unfortunately, the rain came down (25mls), but the event went ahead anyway.

54 players from 7 clubs were booked in; 27 started and 21 finished.

The delicious Chinese lunch was very welcome, and the damp players managed to keep smiling.

The Div. 1 winners were M Wadsworth (Kew) B Gordon (Bulahdelah), S Hammond (Forster/Tuncurry) and D Rabbett (Gloucester).

Div. 2 winners were M Lambden (F/T), T Hopley (F/T), N Hansen (F/T) and H Aitken (Bulahdelah). K Skinner-Oyston (Maitland) had the best scratch score.

NTPs were D Rabbett, T-L Smith, M South and J Jackson. Long and Accurate drivers were C Googh, T-L Smith, K Magoffin and H Aitken.

I remember being offered a photo frame made of elephant dung in Chiang Mai and haggling over the price, since it is poor form not to haggle in Thailand.

It just confuses the situation if you accept the price offered.

Anyway, I didn't actually want the frame, so I offered a ridiculously low price, and the salesperson was so offended that I felt instantly mortified at my actions and ended up buying the frame for double the original asking price.

At customs in Sydney Airport, the frame was confiscated and ripped apart by a customs officer whose name was probably something like Butch or Dwight.

What is the message of this tale? I don't know.

I've forgotten your question as I've now transported myself back to a time when life was simpler and the only worry I had was haggling over things I didn't want.

I think the point I wanted to make was that life is too short to be fretting about things you no longer want anyway.

Or to be taking up headspace over objects that are no longer yours.

As someone very wise, I think it was Queen Elsa, once said, 'Let it Go'.

Needs You! “During that time the Club and its members have faced many challenges and on each of those occasions our proud community has stepped up to ensure our children get a chance to play the game they love, socialise and learn in a friendly and supportive environment.

“The Club has also provided many of these children’s parents with an opportunity to give back to the local community in a way that resonates through the whole area.

“It is a chance to be part of something bigger, and forge life long friendships within the community,” said Lisa.

The Club is inviting all interested community

members to the Tea Gardens Hotel on Thursday 31 March at 6pm, to learn more about the volunteering assistance required.

“Given the disrupted and stressful years we have recently seen it is now more important than ever to get back into the community and get involved.

“Whether you have children playing soccer or not we value any and all help provided to ensure the day to day running of the Club is maintained.

“Come and have some fun, meet new people and learn new skills.

“Your club needs you!”

OVER the past three decades the Tea Gardens Soccer Club has played an integral role in the socialisation and development of local youth.

It provides an opportunity for our young people to strengthen their peer connections, and feel like a valued part of a larger community whilst participating in structured fun physical activity.

The Club is now desperately seeking volunteer assistance to allow the club to operate for the 2022 season.

“Our local soccer Club has enjoyed 32 years of involvement and support within our community,” said Lisa Worth.
