Due to COVID restrictions the traditional opening event and raffle won’t be held, however throughout the exhibition the group is collecting funds for Wildlife In Need of Care, our area’s wildlife rescuers, and GIG will also add a donation.

The Gallery is located in the waterfront café strip at 81 Marine Drive, Tea Gardens, diagonally opposite the Tea Gardens ferry wharf.

The Gallery is temporary closed due to the New South Wales covid situation and hopes to reopen on the 4th of January.

The parties agreed that their assets should be divided equally between them and they agreed that the home needed to be sold; they even agreed on the value of all assets – but just could not agree on the value for the house.

By the time they got to trial, the house had been listed at $5,000,000 for some months. The husband said he would not sell for below $4,800,000, while the wife proposed that it be listed at $3,700,000 and then a reduction over time if still not sold.

Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said road crashes have claimed the lives of 291 people in NSW so far this year and almost half of those fatalities involved speeding.

“It’s devastating that hundreds of families will celebrate Christmas without a loved one this year, and each one of those deaths was preventable,” Minister Constance said.

“The impact is massive for so many more people, with more than 11,000 injured in road crashes in 2019 alone.

“Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to travel, don’t speed, drive to the conditions, wear your seatbelt, avoid distractions,

make sure you’re well rested and if you’ve been drinking or have taken drugs, don’t drive.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Paul Toole, said 179 of those killed on NSW roads so far this year died as a result of crashes on country roads.

“Country people make up only a third of NSW’s population but last year deaths on country roads made up two thirds of our road toll,” Minister Toole said.

“We are doing all we can to make the roads safer, however road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

“We are asking people to plan ahead, put the phone away, buckle up, slow down, take regular breaks and enjoy our roads safely this summer holiday,” he said.

With international travel off-the-cards, search data from digital travel platform agoda.com reveals a shift in the travel behaviours of Australians this Christmas as they increasingly discover unsung destinations in regional NSW. Agoda’s search data showed New South Wales holiday destinations have increased in popularity including Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley, while other States have seen dips in popularity for their main tourist destinations, including

Margaret River (WA), Great Ocean Road (VIC) and the Whitsundays (QLD).

Agoda’s VP Corporate Development, Tim Hughes said, “An Aussie Christmas holiday often means beaches in Bali, snowfields in Japan or playtime in Phuket.

Free camping areas reopen

Closed since COVID-19 restrictions were put in place in March 2020, MidCoast Council’s designated free camping areas have now been reopened, with a booking system in place to ensure social distancing.

The free camping areas at Rocks Crossing in Taree, and Gloucester campsites at Gloryvale, Bretti and Copeland will all now be

available for campers over the summer season.

In addition the feepayable Barrington Reserve campsite has reopened and can be booked as usual through Barrington General Store.

Like most services and facilities since the COVID19 pandemic, things are a little bit different now.

You will need to book a space via an online form at midcoast.nsw.gov.au/ camping.

Other Council services are also reopening.

Council’s Libraries’ school holiday activities are back to face-to-face events and activities during the summer holidays – visit library.midcoast.nsw.gov.au and check out the program for activities at a library near you.

will be fully supervised, run in accordance with COVID safe guidelines, and bookings are essential.

District swimming pools at Tea Gardens, Stroud, Bulahdelah, Nabiac, and Krambach can be booked by groups, providing they have completed a COVID-19 safety plan and have current public liability insurance.

Unfortunately those pools remain closed to casual visitors, as COVID19 requirements can’t be met at those venues for casual visits.

And many market operators are now reopening local markets, which have been sorely missed by locals and visitors alike during 2020.

How to keep your kids learning these school holidays

AS we arrive at the holidays, it is important to ensure your child’s academic skills stay sharp through the holidays.

Five weeks is a long time in a young person’s life.

So, what can you do?

• If you are away, how about taking an opportunity to visit a museum. Some are unique, different and downright strange.

• Have a family game night.

Games such as Boggle and Scrabble can beef up vocabulary and spelling, whilst games such as Cribbage and Rummy 500 help build quick mathematical skills.

• Get cooking and enlist your child as the sous chef!

The Lions Club of Stroud thanks Local Emergency Services

THROUGHOUT the month of October, with the assistance

of many local businesses, the Lions Club of Stroud sold mini cakes on the basis that for every one sold, one would go to the local Rural Fire

Service or State Emergency Service crews.

The community was great and devoured lots of snacks.

On the evening of

Friday 11 December, as part of Stroud’s community Christmas celebrations on Cowper Street, the Lions Club invited six local RFS brigades

to receive the donated mini cakes.

Brigades from Wards River, Monkerai, Stroud Road, Stroud, Booral and

Limeburners Creek were all present to receive a delicious box of mini cakes each.

Arrangements will be made to pass on the goodies to the Girvan RFS Brigade and the local SES. Stroud Lions is now considering making this an annual event.

Last week my husband and I went on a Date Night and it was a flop, mainly due to external circumstances such as torrential rain, a restaurant booking that fell through and a noisy alternative.

HASN’T it just! So much has happened, with so much written – by myself included – about the market. It’s fair to assume the bushfires, then Covid-19 should have sent the market plummeting, but it didn’t. Real estate in our region has enjoyed a stellar year with vendors selling quickly and strongly and buyers making their lifestyle dreams come true.

Certainly, there was a frenzy where urbanites seeking a regional (better!) lifestyle rushed to purchase, sending prices sky high as they picked up properties on or before listing day. This has now tempered, but the selling prices remain strong as buyers understand they are securing quality properties that align with their changing needs. And make no mistake, Covid-19 has seen a very real realignment of lifestyle choices.

Consequently,demand continues to outstrip supply. Because of this, I predict the market will remain buoyant well into 2021. Each of R&R’s five offices – Stroud, Gloucester, Forster, Bulahdelah and Raymond Terrace are enjoying impressive sales across residential, rural lifestyle and housing block sectors.

Ah, Date Night.

What sadist came up with a concept where people who have been married for decades need to go out and pretend they’ve just met. It is doomed to fail.

The very concept of Date Night, where two people go out to forget their responsibilities, their children and their mortgage to “enjoy themselves” (as quoted in the Cambridge Dictionary no less) seems to insinuate that non-Date Nights are not pleasurable at all.

Going on a date is smoke and mirrors, anticipatory stuff. You date when you are getting to know each other.

You don’t date when you’ve already been intimately exposed to every eccentricity, every habit, every political view, hell, let’s be honest here, every orifice of the person sitting opposite you.

You not only know your dining partner’s hobbies and interests, you know what they look like slumped over a plastic chair in the shower covered in their own vomit.

You know what they feel and sound like when they bite your arm and swear like a trooper when giving birth because lavender oil and deep breathing just doesn’t cut it. You know what they smell like after you’ve roughed it together on a six-week camping trip. You have a lifetime of bonding experiences, so revel in the good, try to erase the bad, and don’t think for one moment that a platter of overpriced Warrigal greens, red wine or an arthouse flick once a month will make one iota of difference.

Away from the overcrowded camping grounds there is plenty of parking for our caravan of three rental motor homes accommodating the parents and umpteen kids.

Courtesy of the local tax payer there is free water, electricity, bbq, shelter, toilets, a kid’s playground, and fishing and swimming spots to die for.

No need to clean up our mess; just leave it to the capable council staff when they return from their Xmas break.

Why use the dump point at Lions Park at Shearwater

if you can empty the cartridge in the local toilet.

And no complaints when we run the generator at night so we can watch the telly.

Absolutely fabulous private spot, we can highly recommend it.”

“The [previous] cricket pitch did have its own character of being very narrow and, at times, it was challenging for even the best bowlers within the district,” Edwards said.

This was partly due to covering the pitch during rugby season, causing the deterioration of the wicket..

Before the pitch was renovated Edwards said, “Each time the transition period

[between rugby and cricket] is usually 6-8 weeks.

“We are just now working through the final stages to fulfil the goal of having the field that it can transition relatively easily from one sporting code to the next and be ready within days.”

Now the pitch sits at the national standard and can be utilised by all players, from juniors to A-grade, and recreational players within the community.

By John SLATER 16 December THE last day of organised bowls today saw a maximum quota of 56 players on the synthetic green.

In addition, there were many players who turned up for the traditional prawn lunch.

All games were “Fours” games.

There were some very competitive matches played but the clear-cut winners were.

Col Amos, Neil Kibble, Mark Hair and Ron Webster.

The runners –up were Dave Garcia, Peter Campbell, Col Fossey and Bill Heylbut.

The Club welcomed a new player today, Scott Fitzalan who received his welcome letter, bowls cloth and pen.

I have seen Scott play and I have no doubt that he will be a real asset to our Club.

It was a day for “thank you’s” with Club President Noel Jackson thanking his Committee for their efforts in completing the various Club Championship and weekly events during a

very turbulent year.

Noel praised the management and staff of the Country Club for their handling of the Covid emergency.

They certainly put in a mighty effort!

The President of the Country Club, Terry Munright, also thanked the Club members for supporting the main Club during the recovery phase which is still under way.

Terry indicated that the Bowling Club was an integral part of the Country Club’s activities and hoped to see a continuation of the

strong support from our members.

Games in 2021 will commence on Wednesday, 6 January, and will feature a change in format from three-bowl triples to twobowl triples.

LOCALS have begun the process of fundraising to add a basketball/netball court to the Stroud Showground..

“As our Stroud Showground grows and becomes more and more user friendly, we have had requests to add a basketball/ netball court to the facility,” wrote fundraiser organiser Ashley Power on the Go Fund Me page.

Local parents, businesses and MidCoast Councillor Karen Hutchinson have led the drive to get this new facility up and running.

“We have spoken with Council and have received their approval, and also a donation towards it, being the purchase of a new multi purpose ring - basketball one side and a netball hoop on the other,” said Ms Powell.

“As well as Council, we have had local businesses and user groups put their hand up to donate time, labour and materials for the job.”

The fundraising page was

set up on December 16.

As of December 22, $860 had been raised from the $2000 fundraising goal.

“This project is ready to turn soil!” said Ashley.

“All we need now is some further money to help the project come to life.

“With the 2020 we have had, things are tough on all fronts, so please don't feel obliged to donate.

“A helping hand with the work is just as valuable if you can manage.

“I'm sure we all agree as parents we want our kids happy, active and above all safe, and this is one of the ways we plan to give all the local kids, and maybe some of the adults too, a way to release that pent up energy in a safe and friendly environment,” said Ms Powell.

RECONSTRUCTION of Stroud cricket pitch has finally been completed after pandemic delays and indecision.

The unique wicket was gradually subsiding due to the ovals use in winter months for rugby, but after months of deliberation and local support, the pitch is ready for summer.

Stroud Cricket Club President Jason Edwards said thanks to significant funds raised by the club, the renovations were complete in time for the first match on 21 November.

If this year had played out according to plan the pitch would have been completed much earlier, and Edwards said, “It was agreed that the cricket pitch would be removed at the end of the cricket season and replaced at the beginning of this cricket season, being that there should be ample time for the construction.”

Instead, COVID-19 postponed the pitch’s facelift until early October.

The wicket is now much more forgiving on bowlers
