Drug Bust FROM Page 1

Stephens-Hunter Police District sectors attended a home on Warraba Road, The Branch, and spoke with a 36-year-old man.

Police executed a search warrant at the property where they allegedly located and seized more than 11kg of hydroponic cannabis, several cannabis plants, two hydroponic cannabis setups and drug paraphernalia.

It’s estimated the street value of the cannabis seized is more than $150,000.

The 36-year-old man was issued with a court attendance notice for the offences of cultivate prohibited plant, possess prohibited plant, possess prohibited drug and supply an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug.

He is due to face Dungog Local Court on Wednesday 15 January 2020.

What happens if the Executors you appoint in your Will cannot agree and have an all-out fight after you have passed away?

In a recent case, a mother appointed her 3 sons as executors. She probably thought since she had 3 sons this was the best approach. After she died, one son died leaving two sons who fought so badly that even after 7 years her estate was still not administered. The case had to go to Court to fix the deadlock. When the Judge observed the 2 brothers he felt they could not possibly co-operate with each other.

He also considered that to leave one son as executor would be unwise due to their fighting.

He noted that sometimes the Court will “pass over” a named

executor if, for example, the executor neglects their duty, wastes time or is badly behaved. He confirmed that the primary concern of the Court is to ensure the estate will be efficiently and properly administered but the Court will also try to respect the Will-maker’s choice. In this case, the Court appointed an independent person (a solicitor) to administer the estate. Overall, the case demonstrates that it is important to think carefully as to whether your children are likely to be able to work together because otherwise a lot of time effort and money is wasted.

Cheque Handover

By Sandra CLARK COUNTRY Women’s Associations Hunter River Group Council Meeting held 27 November at East Maitland facilitated the cheque hand over of proceeds raised from this year’s Buy My Wardrobe.

Buy My Wardrobe is a pop-up event selling second hand clothes held at the Myall River Festival in Tea Gardens run by a local fundraising group the Pearls of Port Stephens.

This year the group set a goal of raising $4000 for drought affected farmers in our region, specifically in mind was to channel some funds to help the Doing It For Our Farmers Pop Up Pantry initiative in Murrurundi.

Sharyn Buck from the CWA welcomed representative members from the Pearls to the meeting giving Kathy Gillespie Mother of Pearl (MOP) an opportunity to reacquaint CWA members with the fundraising group and reason behind this year’s donation.

Kathy handed the cheque for $4000 to Helen Gardiner a CWA representative for the Upper Hunter region.

Helen said,” Water is now at a critical level in the area and this money will go a long way to help farmers from Scone through Murrurundi and as far as Quirindi so we are most grateful to the Pearls for this generous donation.”

The drought has had dire consequences for farming communities continuing to struggle to provide fodder for animals and keep water and food on the table.

“The real solution is rain and follow up rain until then we will continue to give support where we can” Helen said.

Light rain welcomed

WELCOMING a light band of rainfall in our catchment region over last weekend, MidCoast Council says much more is needed as Severe Level 4 restrictions are in force today for most of the MidCoast. The Hawks Nest / Tea Gardens supply is the only area to remain on Very High (Level 3) restrictions.

Late last Saturday afternoon a light band of rainfall swept across the western side of Manning Valley catchment bringing falls of up to 10mm.

This rainfall was consistent from Bulahdelah in the south to the Manning and Gloucester catchment areas.

The rainfall that we did get across the catchment over the weekend will provide some short term relief, however it’s been so dry that not much will end up as runoff into

The best falls were observed towards the very top of the catchment on Barrington Tops, where just over 40mm fell over Friday and the weekend.

This level of rainfall should provide some base flow back into the Barrington River and will benefit the town water supply in Gloucester.

MicCoast Council believes it may now be able to delay emergency level restrictions for Gloucester, perhaps by up to a month.

Severe (Level 4) restrictions ban all outdoor water use. Residents can only use recycled, grey or rain water on gardens – there is a total ban on sprinklers or garden irrigation systems.

No car or boat washing is permitted, and swimming pool top-ups are also banned.

“We are not likely to run out as our supply is continually being recharged but in dry times at a slower level. However, it is important that we conserve water at all times,” Cr Roberts said.

“Tea Gardens Hawks Nest has an ongoing reliable supply from a large aquifer, a trial in the New Year will happen to see how viable it is to truck our water to Gloucester to ensure they have water security in the future.”

The Common or Indian Myna bird is being humanely trapped and removed from Tea Gardens by trained residents. Classified as one of the world’s most invasive species by the World Conservation Union, the Indian Myna bird has a brown body, black head and yellow bill.

THE Common or Indian Myna bird is being humanely trapped and removed from Tea Gardens by trained residents. Classified as one of the world’s most invasive species by the World Conservation Union, the Indian Myna bird has a brown body, black head and yellow bill.

They are native to tropical southern Asia from Iran to India and Sri Lanka.

The Indian Myna was introduced into the Melbourne markets and the Queensland cane fields to reduce insect pests.

As with cane toads, the efforts failed, and the Indian Myna has since invaded most of eastern NSW.

Agriprove told the interested locals, “The first Australian Carbon Credits (ACCUs) were issued earlier this year by the Australian Government adding profit to production and farm sustainability with soil carbon farming.”

“The measurements are done through soil sampling to establish a baseline and over years improvements of soil carbon by adding organic matter and composts are then remeasured to calculate the ACCUs earnt. “Mathew said.

A guided tour of the facility lead by Rob Niccol Sales and Marketing Manager at ANL explained the specialised ranges of quality composts, composted mulches and special

blends for agricultural and horticultural cropping systems that ANL have developed.

“The old chipping machine is still here but not used as we do not chip on this site.” Rob said.

Residents are urged only to deposit green waste in green waste collection bins, no plastics. The rows of green waste in piles on the site are aerated, turned and moved as composting takes place resulting in the final products for sale.

ANL staff encouraged local residents to contact them directly with any questions,concerns or for further information.

Tea Gardens is no exception with high numbers of the feral pest observed in, and around, the vicinity of Marine Drive.

The flock size is increasing, with locals reporting seeing Indian Myna birds bullying native birds and animals.

The feral pests are roosting in homes, posing a fire and health risk. Residents and visitors should discourage Indian Mynas by not feeding them and placing all food scraps inside bins.

The humane removal of the ‘flying rats’ from Tea Gardens will visibly improve the local environment.

Volunteers Luncheon COUNCIL

SIXTY kitchen hands and loyal deliverers attended this year’s Meals on Wheels Volunteer Luncheon in the Hawks Nest Community Hall on Thursday 21 November.

The luncheon was provided by Emile Tseronis head cook at Meals on Wheels and desserts by Colleen See a long -term volunteer as a thank you to everyone for all their efforts.

Entertainment was provided by Jomeca who sang a variety of songs from Jazz to Pop to Musical Theatre, Jomeca was also joined by Office Manager Meredyth Rae for a duet from Wicked “For Good”.

Further entertainment on the day involved a “This Is Your Life” segment hosted by Meredyth and participant Alan Tarlington

Lorraine's team rallied scoring 9 shots over the next 4 ends ultimately just losing by 1 shot 10 v 9. A similar story on the next rink Dawn Jones, Pam Gilchrist, Karen Green and Bette Saillard led by 6 shots on the 10th end then Judi Polak, Christine Fossey, Sandra Leisemann and Pat Baker won the next two ends, not enough points to win but gaining a much more respectful score, just going down by 3 shots 11 v 8.
