D’Angelo named new Niagara CAO A six-month search has shown Niagara Region council that the grass may not be greener outside the area as Carmen D’Angelo was named CAO on Monday after a special meeting. D’Angelo has held senior leadership roles in both municipal and healthcare sectors in his career while most recently holding

Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority’s CAO position. “Carmen has a strong understanding of Niagara’s economic, social and political environment, having worked closely with Niagara’s 12 municipalities and surrounding areas as CAO of the NPCA,” said Niagara Reg. Chair Alan Caslin. “He has developed

excellent working relationships with many members of regional council that sit on the NPCA Board. During the six-month recruitment period, our corporate management team and acting CAO Maurice Lewis have worked hard moving forward regional council’s strategic plan and our key priorities.” D’Angelo replaces for-

mer CAO Harry Schlange who quit the position in April after considerable turmoil enveloped his administration. D’Angelo’s ascension to Niagara Region CAO also raised red flags for members of council. Issues such as going from a small organization like NPCA to a $1 billion See CAO, Page 3
