Loss of on-street parking a serious worry in Smithville By Mike Williscraft NewsNow The fact things could have been worse than the loss of seven onstreet parking spots in downtown Smithville doesn’t make

the president of West Lincoln Chamber of Commerce feel any better. President Ivan Carruthers, who fought having Niagara Region remove the

spots along Griffin Street, said he was never informed as to when the Region would debate or pass the measure and was not notified See PARK, Page 3

There are milestones, then there are milestones. This week is a signficant one in many respects. It marks NewsNow having its third birthday and marching off into its fourth year of serving West Niagara the best way we know how. It marks 18 years as an independent publisher and 20 years, yes, 20 years since I inflicted myself on the community. That’s a lot of council meetings, boat loads of community events, tons of heart warming features, too many genuine tragedies, unfortunate passings of good people, and a gazillion photos. It has been a challenge at every turn with incredible highs and some crushing lows. And, quite likely, due to a collective oxygen deficiency as children (not really) here we are...ready for more. Most of our team here go back to the cut and paste days of layout and design. Today, it is all about e-news, tweets and websites and mobile formats; unimaginable in the early 90s. NewsNow has been in the mix on those fronts in a tepid manner, but that will change, as all things do. The coming months will be Year of the Interweb for us. We’ve got several e-tricks up our sleeves to further enhance content for those online oriented. We will continue to post our full e-edition for those who enjoy the best of both worlds –traditional newspaper style in an electronic format. Undoubtedly, there will be other items which pop up, as ClubWEST Magazine did in the summer of 2014. We are always looking to innovative in any way possible as we maintain our focus on our ultimate goal. That goal is to serve readers and the local business community through all-local stories on anything we can get our hands on and providing the strongest (and largest by a longshot) distribution possible. Our carriers and drivers are THE best! We appreciate every moment we are allowed to serve the community and look forward to another 20 years. M.W.
