Hot stuff!

Jim Bucknall fires up the 1921 SawyerMassey, 17 horsepower steam engine tractor to steam a barrel of fresh corn in the husk, a legendary treat on the Bucknall farm in Campden. The treat was part of the program held Saturday afternoon which brought the history of swing beam barns to life. The seminar was held in Bucknall’s own 1841 barn. WL council to take hard look at clean fill By Joanne McDonald For NewsNow An application for a site alteration permit to allow the dumping of clean fill on a West Lincoln property has been deferred to staff while councillors dig deeper as to what constitutes clean fill

in preparation for an Aug. 13 public meeting to consider the application. Coun. Terry Bell called for the staff information report to be pulled from Monday night’s list of items set for approval by council. Looking closely at

the application, Bell had concerns about the content of the soil samples and questioned that Township has been requested to call before visiting the site. Director of planning and building Brian Treble said there are

two properties that have been subject to some bylaw enforcement activity over the past six weeks. Both of those are subject to the public meeting. Treble said both are proposing to bring in volumes of fill and advised it is appropriate

to get clarity before council supports the site alterations at the proposed scale. Representatives of both properties have indicated it is not top soil but good, clean fill. The township has an obligation in protecting the land to

determine it is an improvement over the soil quality there now, and to be convinced people are proposing to bring in the fill for the right reasons - to improve the soil quality. There will be more information available See SOIL, Page 3
