Grimsby whittles budget to 4.35% hike By Mike Williscraft NewsNow After starting its budget process at a projected increase nearing 30 per cent, Grimsby council has shrunk that number to 4.35 per cent after a
series of deliberations. In late March, the increase was narrowed from 10.28 per cent to 7.06 per cent. “The April 17 meeting adjustments brought the levy increase down from the 7.06 per cent
to the final 4.35 per cent,” said Steve Gruninger, Grimsby’s director of finance. To get to that increase level, several additional adjustments were made: • Funding a transporta-
tion capital project (40 km/h road signs) from reserves ($105,000) • Additional interest revenue ($55,500) • Cut to Fire transfers to reserves ($75,000) • Cut to the salary review ($50,000)
A 1 per cent increase is roughly the equivalent of $90,000. “This was definitely the toughest budget the Town has faced considering where we started from and the See BUDGET, Page 2
