Beamsville skatepark from dream to reality

A little piece of skateboarder heaven was formally opened at Rotary Park in Beamsville Saturday as the ribbon was cut on the community’s new skatepark and pumptrack. The facility - constructed by New Line Skateparks and Tran-

sitions Bike Parks - is located in Rotary Park, adjacent to the Fleming Centre. Phase I was built at a cost of about $660,000, 90 per cent of which came via development charges. A $100,000 contribution from Lincoln Rotary Club was key.

The development of the park is a dream come true for Beamsville resident Trevor Donegan who, several years ago as a teenager, began advocating for the need for something youth-oriented in the community. See SKATE, Page 4

Grimsby adopts enhanced code of conduct More defined conflict of interest guidelines met with considerable opposition By Mike Wiliscraft NewsNow Grimsby council approved some refined wording in its new code of conduct Monday night, but not without considerable debate.

When Charles Harnick, Grimsby’s integrity commissioner, provided a report at council’s September meeting, Coun. Dorothy Bothwell suggested more defined wording for the proposed section dealing with con-

flict of interest be included. At that time, and again on Monday, Bothwell noted many municipalities use the more detailed wording, including Niagara Region, Niagara-onthe-Lake and St. Catharines.

That did not sway some on council who preferred to take Harnick’s report as presented. “My language is quite broad,” said Harnick. See CONFLICT, Page 2
