Doubt creeps into WLMH process By Mike Williscraft NewsNow After months of what has been described by West Lincoln Memorial Hospital staff as “runaround” the monthslong assessment of possible cheaper and more simple solutions to “safety” issues at the facility have made even the most optimistic skeptical.

Hamilton Health Sciences, which manages WLMH, rolled out an announcement last October noting a 27-month closure of the facility’s operating rooms was required to allow for a full renovation, citing patient safety as the key driver behind the move. This despite WLMH having top level scores from Ac-

creditation Canada and not a single patient issue ever having been recorded. Tony Joosse, co-chair of the Citizen’s Action Committee, has noted at many points in the last six months, “It seems like we’re right back at October 22 again.” Key to fuelled skepticism this week have been com-

ments from staff - who had previously remained optimistic about the HHS, its intentions and its efforts to preserve all services at WLMH until the provincially supported rebuild project comes through. Back in November, HHS agreed to create a committee See COMMITTEE, Page 3
