Voices to heard on Livingston EA: Ryall By Joanne McDonald For NewsNow Niagara Region says local voices will be heard as it looks at transportation needs to handle growth and development in west Grimsby. The Region is completing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the extension of Livingston Ave., west of Emily St. to Main St. and Tuesday, invited the commu-

nity to a Public Information Centre (PIC) meeting at the Casablanca Winery Inn. “Their voices will be heard,” Carolyn Ryall, director of transportation for Niagara Region said at the meeting. “We are looking at the need for an east-west connector road. There has been no predisposition as to what the east-west connector is going to be,” Ryall said. “This is an

information gathering, fact finding conversation with the community. We want to hear their issues, their concerns either for or against, but the larger conversation is there will be a requirement and how does that fit into the community.” Four main transportation corridors have been identified for assessment in providing an east-west connec-

tion through the study area: North Service Rd. from Casablanca Blvd. west to Windward Drive; South Service Rd. from Casablanca Blvd. west to Oakes Rd. North; Livingston Ave. from Casablanca Blvd. west to Emily St. and extended along the Regionowned right-of-way to Main St. West, and; Main St. West between Casablanca Blvd. and Oakes Rd. North.

“The purpose of the study is to examine the need and opportunities for providing additional east-west travel capacity in west Grimsby and consider alternative ways to achieve this, including an extension of Livingston Ave, intersection improvements and new infrastructure to facilitate walking and cycling,” said consultant Jack Thompson.
