Market freshened, ready for next week’s launch By Mike Williscraft NewsNow There have been many casualities due to the impact of COVID-19 but Grimsby Farmers’ Market is determined to not be one of them. The market will virtually open next Thursday, June 11, with consumers being able to place an order on the market’s website and then proceed to the Peach King Centre for pick-up. Online orders must be placed by noon each Monday so they can be prepared for each Thursday. Order at grimsbyfarmersmarket.ca Customers can still physically attend the market and make their selections, however, but it will not be the regular atmosphere of music, visiting and samples. The market will run from 2-7 p.m. “From the response we have received, people are excited to hear the market is opening up again,”

said Marc McKerracher, a member of the market’s steering committee. “The online store is popular, although our pick-up process has needed some rethinking, and we continue to streamline as much as possible, while keeping in mind the rules of social distancing.” The market has long been a staple for downtown Grimsby, traditionally being staged on Main Street. The change to a virtual format to allow for appropriate social distancing measures has meant a complete overhaul for how the market will run. “While it’s true that there are fewer vendors this

year (as a result of our Niagara Health permit process for rules on Covid), we think our customers will find an excellent selection of produce and food products for their needs. We don’t know if we can get back to a “normal” setup on the street this year at all, so there isn’t a clear idea if we can add to the vendor list yet.” “There will not be any of the regular things you look forward to but See MARKET, Page 3
