Power outage leaves 2,500-plus in dark, cancels council By Mike Williscraft NewsNow One small tree hitting a power line on Park Road South put more than 2,500 Grimsby Power customers in the dark Monday night. Residents weren’t the only ones to have their evening agenda changed as Grimsby Council cut off its Committee of the Whole meeting and deferred a scheduled council meeting to next week due to the outage.
“In light of the power outage on Main Street East and certain parts of Ward 1 and parts of Ward 2...and three councillors are having trouble connecting tonight, we’re going to adjourn now and move our council meeting to after the Dec. 13 meeting,” said Mayor Jeff Jordan as he wrapped up the COTW session. “This meeting is finished and we’ll see everyone on the 13th. Thank you very much and good evening.”
With that, the session ended a little before 9 p.m. The outage itself, which started at 8:25 p.m. continued until 9:45 p.m., said Grimsby Power’s president and CEO Remy Fernandes. “The power outage was reported between Christie and Park Road and between the South Service Road and Mud Street. Crews were immediately dispatched to patrol these areas to identify the issue.
The time to restoration at that time was unknown,” said Fernandes. When the trouble spot was located a little after 9 p.m., conditions caused ongoing restoration issues. “Power restoration efforts were compounded by high winds and fallen tree branches on the primary feeder.
