Ombudsman finds
Grimsby council did not contravene Municipal Act By Mike Williscraft NewsNow Town of Grimsby council was found to have acted appropriately in dealing with a February closed session matter by Paul Dubé, Ombudsman of Ontario.
The complaint alleged that the discussion which - based on the nature of the resolution that council passed in open session afterwards, which was about supporting women in politics, did not appear to fit
within the cited exceptions for personal matters about an identifiable individual and litigation or potential litigation. The complaint also alleged that the decision to add the closed session item to the Feb. 21,
2023 agenda should have been made by council in open session. In a Nov. 29 letter to Grimsby council, Dubé stated council “did not contravene the Municipal Act, 2001 because the subject
matter fit within the exceptions for personal matters about an identifiable individual and advice subject to solicitor-client privilege.” When the Monday’s meeting agenda was posted See COUNCIL, Page 3
