Kickstands up for Tracey’s Ride for a Cure By Joanne McDonald For NewsNow Kickstands will be up Saturday and the heart of the community that loves Tracey Palumbo will be wide open to help her fight cancer. Tracey is a bright light and powerhouse personality - as a loving mom, as an ER nurse who has saved so many lives, as a sis-
ter and a friend, she is always there to help others. It’s been a tough year since the diagnosis last fall of a rare form of sarcoma cancer and the fight is on from every corner. It’s Tracey’s turn to feel the support and strength that she gives to so many. Tracey’s sister Tina
Van Pykeren and family friend Mike Cherwaty are pulling out all the stops Aug. 10 for a full day starting in the morning with Tracey’s Ride for a Cure, a round trip entourage of motorcycles touring to Nanticoke and returning to Beamsville for an evening of barbecue and live bands performing. This is
going to be one huge party and everyone is invited to be there. “We’re sending a loud message to the community and the world, we are going to fight this,” Cherwaty said. Tracey, 46, a Beamsville resident and ER nurse at the St. Catharines General Hospital and her sister Tina,
an ICU nurse at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital began their careers working together when they opened St. Elizabeth Health Care in the Niagara area in 1998. “She is the world to me,” said Tina, praising her sister’s compassion, skill and strength. “She is an amazing mother, her kids have
always come first. Family is everything to her. She is kind and caring, selfless, and puts everyone else’s needs first….always has.” Tracey and her husband Rob, together since she was 14 when they first met as high school sweethearts, have two boys, ages 11 and 17. See TRACEY, Page 3
