Readying to rock I

t was quiet in the early evenings last weekend before the CAMMIES showcases. But hopping from venue to venue, you could see signs that the shows were about to go on. At Café Coda the barstool was set up on the sidewalk next to a music stand holding a hand stamp. A pile of sliced limes on the bar glowed under the disco lights at Lost on Main. And the picnic tables were stacked and tucked away and the scent of wood hung in the air as a fresh blanket of sawdust was spread across the floor of Monstros Pizza.

This year’s three-day CAMMIES Music Fest was a huge success, with Chico’s best musicians drawing capacity crowds to nearly every showcase. And for every incredible show there was an equally incredible effort put in by the bartenders, doorpeople, bookers, security, cooks, volunteers and soundpeople (especially Justin Vodden, the head soundman for Lost on Main/DownLo, whose Herculean day-long work to greatly augment the sound system at the
