a message from the

artistic and managing directors Thank you for joining us for acclaimed playwright Caryl Churchill’s A Number. This play perfectly exemplifies our season’s theme of IDENTITY as issues of intrinsic individuality are explored through the playwright’s legendary use of language. We hope you enjoy this fascinating look into a world that is not so very different from our own, in which the debate of nature versus nurture shines through the lens of one our greatest living playwrights. This season we’ve increased the number of opportunities for you to add your voice and engage in conversation about our productions with the addition of more talkbacks and the return of our Spotlight Symposium Series. Plus, you can continue the discussion after the play by using #NewRepConversation on social media. We’re eager to hear what you have to say! As our season continues, please join us for The Snow Queen, an exciting new pop/rock musical, faithfully adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale by Kirsten Brandt, Haddon Kime, and former New Rep Artistic Director, Rick Lombardo. This production is sure to enchant the entire family this holiday season. And return again in the New Year as we celebrate the third annual Next Rep Black Box Festival with Via Dolorosa by David Hare and The Testament of Mary by Colm Tóibín, two stunning one-person productions connected in setting yet separated in time. At New Rep, many hands contribute to making our season happen. But there is another critical person we rely on to tell our stories: you. Nothing would be possible without you, our audience, to share the stories, to delve into thoughtful conversation, and to share in the process of bringing a play to life. We’d like to be able to tell you that ticket sales alone can sustain a theatre like New Rep, but the truth is that donors make it all possible. We’d like to ask you to step into the spotlight and consider a gift in support of New Rep this fall. Recognize your part in sustaining New Rep as a vital cultural touchstone in our community and a place where theatre is available and accessible for all. Thank you again for visiting us today. We look forward to seeing you again soon as we continue a season filled with thought-provoking and exciting productions.
