TIMBER FRAMING

New Energy Works is made up of over 70 designers, timberwrights, engineers, craftspeople, and community members. Together, we design and build some of the most lyrical and efficient custom wood structures in the industry using reclaimed & sustainably harvested timbers, environmentally responsible practices, and state-of-the-art technology. Our clientele of architects, builders, and homeowners hail from all over North America. We build these relationships from our shops in New York and Oregon, along with a handful of trusted partners. This is a small peek inside our work. For more visit www.newenergyworks.com/galleries

No matter how long we do this, we’re still moved by the sight of a naked frame against the sky.

Our engineers are collaborative in nature. They’re able to incorporate heavy timber into current projects, those already in planning, or if your project is still a dream. Together we work alongside architects, builders, and owners. Our goal is to create a beautiful timber frame that highlights volumes while becoming an element unique to your project.

Our work is eclectic, including: homes, outdoor spaces, party and working barns, commercial buildings, and public spaces across North America. Our team is flexible; we enjoy presenting new approaches and working through a complicated frame as we estimate. Our timberwrights are experienced craftsmen whose passion is matched only by the skill in each project they create. Photos: David Papazain

We send the same craftsmen who cut the frame to raise it. After nearly 30 years in the business, this model hasn’t failed us or our clients.

With access to our sister company Pioneer Millworks’ large inventory of reclaimed and sustainably harvested timbers, either structural or decorative, we’re able to create your vision. Custom surface treatments include planed, sand-blasted, rough-sawn, hand-hewn, wire-brushed, shou sugi ban, and more. Antique timbers often include mortise pockets, tenons, peg holes, insect marks, and knots in addition to their original hand-hewn surfaces. Plus, Pioneer Millworks has FSC-certified fresh-sawn Douglas fir timbers as well.

WE DO WELL WHEN WE DO GOOD

New Energy Works operates on the triple bottom line—a simple belief that people, planet, and profit work together to ensure a better future. We give to our local and global communities. Our coworkers are more than just employees, they’re part of what makes our company successful. We are an employee owned company. We truly care about our craftsmen, and they truly care about your project. When you work with us, you are purchasing products made in a shop that runs on solar power and is heated from our own timber scrap. Our efforts at reclaiming wood have processed over 1 million board feet a year for the past 28 years, saving this wood from landfills, incineration, and rot. Our Earth is a place we want to leave well for the next generation through buildings that are energy-efficient and enduring. When we take care of our people and our planet, we are more profitable. This enables us to invest in efforts that make a difference to our workers’ families and our local and global communities, creates a healthier planet, and most importantly builds a thoughtful company that thrives on quality partnerships.
