Complete solution for

CORE DRILLING FROM

BOSCH

The new diamond drilling system from Bosch is a powerful complete solution for core drilling. This allows HVAC installers and diamond drilling specialists to achieve a fast drilling rate, even at large diameters, in masonry and concrete.

“T

he system comprises the GDB 180 WE Professional, the GDB 350 WE Professional diamond drill, the GCR 180 Professional, and the GCR 350 Professional drill stands,” explains Campbell Mhodi, Bosch Professional Power Tools senior brand manager. “The system provides high performance with a long lifetime and high flexibility, due to comprehensive system accessories. Furthermore, Bosch is also simultaneously launching new diamond core cutters for dry and wet drilling, thus offering a coordinated, complete system,” Mhodi reveals. The GDB 180 WE Professional is exceptionally lightweight at only 5.2kg,

6 | HIRE SA | MAY 2017

with a powerful 2 000W motor and twospeed gearbox. At 180mm, it also offers the largest drilling diameter in this performance category. A major advantage is that it can be used as a hand-held tool, and also together with the GCR 180 Professional drill stand. When doing so, it can be used close to the wall thanks to its small corner measurement. The GDB 180 WE Professional is also exceptionally robust because its gearbox is lubricated with an oil bath rather than with grease. This optimum gearbox lubrication ensures a high degree of efficiency and a long lifetime. The die-cast aluminium housing and a flexible, highly break resistant cord also contribute to the tool’s extended lifetime. The GDB 180 WE

Professional covers a range of applications. It is suitable for dry and wet drilling. Typical applications are core drilling for electrical installation sockets and reinforcements, cable and tray feedthroughs, and breakthroughs for HVAC installations. Two bubble vials integrated into the housing make it easier to align the tool precisely for each drilling application. The 3 200W GDB 350 WE Professional is designed for large drilling diameters of up to 350mm. As with the smaller model, a long lifetime is ensured by oil bath lubrication of the gearbox, a die-cast aluminium housing, and a flexible, break resistant cord. To ensure that the gearbox is completely supplied with oil even during vertical drilling, it also has an integrated oil pump.

[ COVER STORY ]

The diamond drill is complemented by the GCR 350 Professional drill stand. The work angle can be set using the scale, enabling the tool to be aligned precisely during drilling. The speed and torque can be adapted flexibly to the drilling application, thanks to a three-speed gearbox. The GDB 350 WE Professional is designed for wet drilling in reinforced and non-reinforced concrete and masonry, where it performs tasks such as breakthroughs for supply and disposal lines, vents, or water pipes. Both tools feature soft-start, an electronic overload indicator, a PRCD protective switch, and an overload clutch to protect user and machine. The GCR 180 Professional and GCR 350 Professional drill stands enable professional tradespeople to set the work angle easily before drilling, and to align the diamond drills precisely. Both drill stands are suitable for vacuum and wall plug mounting, and for drilling at an incline angle of up to 45°. They are operated using a handwheel with three feed levers, and can be fitted on both sides without the need for additional tools. The diamond drilling system is complemented by comprehensive system accessories. These include

mounting and vacuum sets for the drill stands, a pressurised water container,

water collection rings with matching seal covers to minimise dirt during work and a spacer plate for drilling holes of 300mm to 350mm with the GDB 350 WE Professional. In addition to this, Bosch’s range also includes matching diamond core cutters for wet and dry drilling. The system comprises the Best for Concrete (wet), Best for Universal (dry) and Standard for Universal (dry) product series. “This means that Bosch is able to offer a total system,” Mhodi concludes. ●

Cherry Ellis behind the controls of the Hyundai Robex 520LC-9S hydraulic crawler excavator

HYUNDAI’S 520LC-9S EXCAVATOR offers unsurpassed productivity It’s big, it’s robust and when you approach the Hyundai Robex 520LC-9S hydraulic crawler excavator you know you are going to be able inrease the productivity on your site at a very economical rate. Cherry Ellis visited High Power Equipment Africa’s office in Jet Park, the sole distributor of Hyundai earthmoving equipment, to put the machine to test.

I

already felt comfortable and at home when I entered the cab, it’s spacious and offers a wider field of view for any operator. This is extremely important, working on busy sites like mines and quarries, the operator can keep an eye on any other equipment around the machine, which enhances the safety aspect on site. The well balanced designed cab offers the operator a clear view of the boom and bucket to focus on the work at hand. As with the majority of opposition machines, the operator can adjust the seat, console and armrest to best suit their personal operating preferences. I found this feature to be very helpful as it offers a comfortable working

8 | HIRE SA | MAY 2017

environment with less stress. Inside the cab is an advanced new cluster with a wide LCD colour screen and toggle switch, which the operator uses to select power and work modes, self diagnostics, an optional rear view camera, and a maintenance check list is also visible on screen. The start up machine security and video functions are all integrated into the cluster to make the machine more versatile and user friendly.

Starting the engine The excavator is powered by a six cylinder, turbo charged, four cycle air cooled Cummins QSM11-C engine, which Hyundai says is built for power,

reliability, economy and low emissions. The engine meets the Tier II emissions regulations. I can surely comment on the power and reliability, by choosing the correct working mode, the machine had no problem digging a trench in arduous conditions, it’s definitely power at your finger tips. The excavator offers three working modes: • The Power Max (P) mode maximises machine speed and power for mass production; • The Standard (S) mode provides a reduced, fixed rpm for optimum performance and improved fuel economy;

The Robex 520LC-9S hydraulic excavator offers three working modes to enhance productivity

Cherry Ellis is dwarfed by the huge bucket fitted to the Robex 520LC-9S

Durable track rail guards keep track links in place. Track adjustments are made easy with standard grease cylinder track adjusters and shock absorbing springs

• Economy mode (E) – for maximum fuel savings and improved control this mode provides precise flow and engine power based on load demand. Being a bit rusty at the controls I stuck to the economy mode and still had no problem with the machine delivering great productivity, smooth swing of the boom and was able to dig through rocky ground. I can just imagine what ton per hour a skilled operator would be able to load and how fast a trench he would be able to dig. The 9S series excavators are designed to be fuel efficient. New

Fact The 9S series excavators are designed with bushings for long life intervals (250 hours), and polymer shims (wear resistant, noise reducing), long life hydraulic filters (1 000 hours), long life hydraulic oil (5 000 hours), more efficient cooling systems and integrated preheating systems. All of this extend service intervals, minimise operating costs and reduce machine down time.

innovations like the two-stage auto decal system and the new economy mode helps to conserve fuel and reduce the impact on the environment.

Attachments The work mode allows the operator to select single flow attachments such as a hydraulic breaker or bi-directional flow attachments like a crusher. Flow settings, unique to each attachment, can be programmed from within the cluster – a great time saver for the operator. According to Hyundai some jobs require precise machine settings. By selecting the (U) User mode, the operator can customise engine speed, pump output, idle speed and other machine settings for the specific job at hand. Ground line access to filters, lube fittings, fuses, machine computer components and wide compartments makes service more convenient and easily accessible. Working the machine for a few hours I can say that this hydraulic excavator would add value, productivity, fuel savings and reliability to any site it operates. It receives the thumbs up from Hire SA.

KUBOTA U50 Swings it for Pipe Jack Gauteng Civil engineering company Pipe Jack Gauteng (PJG), which is one of the important role players in the Pipe Jacking and Horizontal Boring Industry in South Africa, reports its Kubota U50 compact excavator is performing according to expectations in the pipe cracking and pipe laying contract for Rand Water Board.

Pipe Jack Gauteng’s Kubota U50 compact excavator at work on the pipe cracking and pipe laying contract

“T

his particular job required a powerful excavator that was no more than 5t in weight. So, we bought the Kubota U-50 and its performance has been excellent,” says Morris Valente, CEO of Pipe Jack Gauteng. He adds that the power-to-weight ratio of the Kubota U50 is outstanding. “This is exactly what was needed on this job and the zero boom and tail swing feature adds to the machine’s appropriateness for these conditions.” Valente emphasised the excellent service he has received from Kubota’s Charl Kemp. “Downtime is expensive in my game and Charl and Kubota have been a great help to us,” he says. PJG, which undertakes a wide range of work in the industry including pipe jacking, pipelines, pipe cracking,

10 | HIRE SA | MAY 2017

demolition and more, says that its mission is to provide tunnelling and engineering solutions to its clients, whilst maintaining a lasting relationship and enabling sustainable growth. “We are committed to building a competitive organisation with a sound value system based on respect for all people both in our organisation and out,” concludes Valente. In its 40 years’ involvement in the mini-excavator industry, Kubota has continuously set the standard with technological innovations. The integration of the zero boom and tail swing was one such innovation. Others, which also helped create the future of compact construction machinery, included the pioneering, advanced features of Auto Idle, which helps save up to 10% fuel; a digital LCD panel and the Kubota Intelligent Control System

(KICS), which help reduce downtime and save on repair and technician costs; and Kubota’s revolutionary “threepump” hydraulic system, which uses three independent pumps for boom, arm and swivel for more efficient bucket operation. Kubota compact excavators are used the world over in a variety of construction applications including agricultural jobs, road-building, municipal works, pipe-laying, landscaping, water conservation projects and more. “Our Kubota compact excavators’ characteristics of being tough, reliable, efficient and easy to operate and service, enable them to work in the toughest conditions and take on any challenge,” says Tom Bloom Smith Power Equipment general manager construction equipment division.

EMBRACE RENTAL Going where no “bolt-on” has gone before. The challenge for any company operating in the rental marketplace is to find a best-ofbreed rental software solution that integrates to their existing financial system.

Maximise revenue, manage your assets and increase operational efficiency

M

any rental companies first implement a financial system to run their business and eventually, to support the unique requirements of the rental industry, add or “bolt-on” a separate rental system. While this appears to be simpler and less costly than replacing the existing system with a new fully integrated one, the reality is this “bolt-on” creates significant ongoing problems and costs that never go away. Those who have gone this route warn that “a bolted-on rental package is cumbersome to use, expensive to manage and maintain and never really works!” This is because bolt-ons do not integrate seamlessly; they require duplication of effort as employees need to manually enter the same information into separate systems, with different data bases, which is time-consuming and results in erroneous and unreliable data. In today’s competitive market, companies need timely insight into rental inventory, financials and other important operating information. Going back and forth between different systems, with the risk of inconsistent data, is not ideal. Also there is no possibility of drilling down from the financial results to the detailed operating activities and transactions. According to ACS-Embrace spokesperson, “when you implement a fully integrated business solution, you effectively “cut out the middle man”, eliminate data redundancy, connectivity complications, multiple user interfaces, as well as integration and interface risks. The Embrace end-to-end business solution, with integrated rental and fleet management gives companies a real-time 360° view of the entire business, streamlining and giving control over all aspects of the business, including rental, sales, service, invoicing, delivery and collections. With all departments working off a single centralised system from quotation to end of contract life, operational efficiency increases, while access to accurate information ensures improved customer service levels and satisfaction. Embrace enables informed business decisions by providing a clear view of assets under rental, including revenue generated services costs and depreciation expenses. Imagine what that could do for your business operations and decision-making? ●

MAY 2017 | HIRE SA | 11

Embrace Rental provides a complete end-to-end solution to companies operating in the short or long term rental market. Whether your requirements are full maintenance leasing or ad hoc hire, Embrace Rental delivers everything you need to control, manage and improve the efficiency of your business.

TRENCHES MANUALLY A Ditch Witch RT40 ride-on trencher from ELB Equipment

With the advent of trenching machines nearly 70 years ago, Ditch Witch the inventors, revolutionised the industry and put paid to manual trenching throughout most of the world.

“Y

et South Africa still prevails with manual labour used to painstakingly dig trenches and foundations, almost as if it were some kind of job creation strategy. Unfortunately, the truth is that manual trenching is not a form of job creation at all; and if anything, it cripples the base of construction and infrastructure delivery to the extent that it prevents workers from obtaining more meaningful and sustainable employment,’’ says Keith Smith, area sales manager of ELB Equipment, local distributors of Ditch Witch. “Take a look at the affordable housing market where a backlog of

12 | HIRE SA | MAY 2017

nearly half a million houses dog the industry on a monthly basis. So, what do well-meaning contractors who are trying to fill the gap do? Well they throw more men at it in the hope that 10 men can dig a foundation in a day and help them start catching up the backlog. But, this is futile: a small ride-on Ditch Witch RT45 trencher can dig up to 25 or even 30 foundations per day. Redeploy the ten labourers per house and with a bit of training they could be increasing housing outputs 20-fold or more,” states Smith.

Speed and precision Smith says speed is just one reason to use a trencher, but there are many, even

more compelling reasons to add a Ditch Witch to the construction fleet. “It also digs trenches and foundations to exact dimensions. This is important in terms of quality of trenches or foundation to avoid failures where they are too shallow or too thin as is often the case on building sites. “In terms of concrete usage alone, the savings in concrete will more than cover the cost of the machine when offset against money savings from accurate estimation and usage of concrete. If a chain gang were to dig a foundation just 100mm deeper or wider than the specification, then the entire calculation would be out and the foundation may need 20-30% more concrete.

“Conversely, too shallow or small foundation can lead to failure or may necessitate a rebuild if inspectors deem the foundation inadequate. This is particularly important in high volume or large scale developments where labour would previously have been employed for several days just digging foundations, may now be redeployed to more skilled positions such as brick and mortar preparation and building, or even as an operator of the Ditch Witch. “On smaller construction sites, it is still possible to use a Ditch Witch and contractors should plan carefully to find a hire company that has a Ditch Witch in stock and hire it for the foundation work. ‘’Machine hire for one day is far cheaper than paying wages. In addition, the workers can rather be put to work in the actual construction of the house albeit “fetch-and-carry” or preparation work as understudies to builders,” states Smith.

Infrastructural mind shift Phillip McCallum, ELB Equipment product manager agrees, adding that in the course of modernising the building site, the Ditch Witch RT-45 has far wider applications where it can equally revolutionise the way work is currently being carried out on applications such

as laying of water, electric, fibre optics and gas utilities. These can also be done more quickly and accurately with a Ditch Witch. “At this moment, there is a massive call for trenches to be dug to lay fibre optics and with the addition of a Ditch Witch, contractors can lay more metres per day with a single machine. In addition, it can even be set to cut narrow trenches (about half the width of a spade), which minimises disruption of sidewalks and pathways etc. If the need arises the Ditch Witch selection includes a range of different machines for a wide range of trenching requirements including small pedestrian trenches from 16-30hp, as well as ride on / heavy duty trenches from 40-120hp,” says McCallum. He concludes that Ditch Witch has a long and proven track record in Southern Africa where it has been distributed and supported by ELB Equipment for more than 25 years. “It is good to know the product has a reliable track record locally and enjoys great aftermarket care and support from our in-house team at ELB Equipment. But finding out which solution would best help your next project move faster, more accurate, profitable and smoother it would always be best to speak to a specialist about your requirements first.”

Minimising road disruptions A new micro trenching system available from ELB Equipment allows utilities to be laid below the road surface with only minimal disruption. The Ditch Witch MT12 MicroTrencher is a fast and precise attachment system, which is designed to reduce damage to the road and avoid lengthy traffic disruptions. It’s specially designed saw blades are designed to quickly and precisely cut asphalt surfaces to a preset depth to allow fibre and other utilities to be laid above existing utilities. The cleanness of the cut and ability to cut narrow trenches enables the contractors to rapidly repair the surface and reopen roads in a fraction of the usual time. With variable depth settings and the ability to maintain exact levels, the new system prevents uneven installations that may reduce the efficiency of utilities being laid. In addition to crossing roads, the MT12 can also be used to trench 610mm transversely in order to be able to trench parallel to kerbs and gutters.

HOISTS GAIN

traction for vertical movement on sites The use of hoists for vertical transportation of personnel and materials is gaining traction across a wide range of industries, including the construction and mining sectors.

Q

uentin van Breda, managing director of SA French, says the increased popularity is because one of the primary challenges on any site is the need to move both people and materials to levels where critical activities need to be performed, and this has to be done safely while maximising productivity. Many sites make use of tower cranes to handle heavy loads, and move these across a wide area on the site. This mode of materials handling, however, cannot be justified for smaller components such as scaffolding material and other equipment. Also, tower cranes cannot move personnel to various levels. “The traditional method of moving such equipment manually is not productive at all, and often results in

SA French hoists are available to move both people and materials

16 | HIRE SA | MAY 2017

excessive standing time with the associated loss of productivity, and even worse can increase unsafe work practice on a site,” van Breda explains. The contractor’s challenge is to find a piece of lifting equipment that will transport both men and materials to various levels on multi-storey constructions, and one that will reduce the manual handling as well as a consequential risk of injury. Hoists not only fit the profile for this type of lifting activity, but can also travel at a speed that is effective and safe. “Often the vertical lifting of men and materials is not appreciated in terms of the complexity it adds to logistics on a construction or mining site,” van Breda says. The challenge is to provide safe, efficient vertical travel on a project while it is being constructed. A recent example where a hoist supplied by SA French provided a best fit logistical vertical lifting solution is at Kusile Power Station. The company supplied man/materials hoists to Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Africa (MHPS) and this purpose engineered single mast hoist is equipped with two separate cages. One has a 2t capacity to carry personnel, while the other is capable of carrying 3,2t of material. Significantly, both cages operate simultaneously increasing productivity; while the configuration of the hoist also allows for materials to be loaded by forklift, further speeding up the operation.

SA French hoists comply with all safety regulations

An example within the mining sector is the recent supply of two 0.5t passenger hoists to a copper mine in Zambia. These two hoists will be responsible for moving personnel, together with light tools and equipment, up the shaft headgear framework. Vertical transport solutions need to comply with the most stringent safety parameters, and the hoists supplied by SA French incorporate advanced security safety including speed regulators and an overspeed emergency braking system.

BOSCH SPONSORS EQUIPMENT for research mission to Antarctica Bosch has joined a range of eminent South African companies in sponsoring equipment for an initiative to conduct research into the Snow Petrel and the near-threatened Emperor Penguin in Antarctica. Bosch has sponsored equipment for an Antarctica research initiative

C

raig Blanckenberg from Solutec, a solutions provider based in Cape Town, travelled to Antarctica onboard the SA Agulhas II, which departed in November last year. He is working alongside a team of scientists investigating the status biology and ecology of these bird species. As a leading provider of power tools, accessories, and measuring tools, with a strong focus on innovation and ongoing product development, Bosch is proud to be associated with this unique endeavour, according to Sebastian Johannes, Bosch measuring tools brand

manager. “We are an environmentallyaware and socially-responsible company, and this sponsorship represents an important contribution on the part of Bosch to the sustainability of the planet and its future generations,” Johannes comments. This is Blanckenberg’s second trip to Antarctica, having sailed originally in 1992 on the SA Agulhas I to the SANAE base while working for Sea Fisheries. During his latest trip, Blanckenberg is travelling to various international bases to conduct research. A number of companies have been supportive of Solutec’s latest venture by

sponsoring equipment for this vital mission. Apart from Bosch, sponsors include Western Digital, NSSL Global, Canon and GoPro. “We extend our sincere gratitude to all of these companies for supporting small business in South Africa, in addition to the invaluable research being carried out on the frozen continent,” Blanckenberg concludes.

NEW COMPACTOR available from JCB JCB has unveiled the 116D single drum soil compactor, a high-performance roller designed for infrastructure construction and maintenance, general construction and landscaping projects. Initially available in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, the 116D delivers low fuel consumption, high compaction performance and improved operator comfort.

K

ey features of the JCB 116D include: • Operating weights from 11 350kg with canopy; • Proven low rpm, high torque JCB DieselMax Tier 3 engine; • Up to 15% fuel savings in competitive trials; • JCB rear axle with limited slip differential for maximum tractive effort; • High compaction force with 30.7kg/cm static linear load.

JCB’s new soil compactor

Heavy duty performance The JCB 116D replaces the VM115D, delivers class-leading compaction force, with a static linear load of 30.7kN and a centrifugal force in the drum of up to 256kN. In trials with competitive machines the 116D required up to 17% fewer passes to achieve the desired material density, saving time and money for customers. JCB has optimised the balance between the machine’s dynamic force and its frame, to maximise compaction without transferring vibrating forces into the chassis. Insulating rubber mountings further, reduces vibration for the operator. The machine has a 2.1m drum width and a working speed of 0-5kph in both directions. Maximum travel speed is 10.5kph. The 116D is powered by a JCB DieselMax four-cylinder engine with mechanical fuel injection, to allow the engine to run with lower quality fuels. The engine meets Tier 3 emissions standards with no requirement for any form of exhaust after-treatment and no need for low sulphur fuels. This high

18 | HIRE SA | MAY 2017

torque powerplant achieves its 114hp (85kW) at low engine rpm, offering fuel savings of up to 15% against competitive machines in field trials. The machine also uses a JCB drive axle, with a standard limited slip differential, for maximum traction in difficult ground conditions. JCB has designed a comfortable operator station with simple, easy to use controls. The 116D delivers great visibility from the operator’s seat, thanks to the low bonnet line and no exhaust obstruction. The single piece engine canopy can be opened by 700 to provide access to the engine and driveline, for ground-level service. The 116D has been designed for low maintenance, with no greasing points and a sealed-for-life centre articulating joint. The soil compactor comes as standard with a canopy or an optional ROPS canopy.

A full air-conditioned ROPS compliant cab will also be made available by the middle of the year, to suit all regional applications. The machine comes standard with JCB LiveLink. This telematics system is available for the first time on a JCB soil compactor of this type and allows managers to remotely access working hours, vibration and travel data. The system also provides a tracking service for improved machine security. JCB chief innovation and growth officer Tim Burnhope said: “The new JCB 116D delivers improved compaction, reduced fuel consumption, is easy to service and has the looks to match its performance. The machine covers up to 75% of the non-legislated soil compaction market and represents a major advance in JCB’s single drum roller history.”

[ PARTS & SERVICE ]

The value of

AFTERMARKET SUPPORT

When calculating the profitability of operations using capital equipment, the sums are done with the assumption that each piece of equipment is operational and working at its full capacity. This means the bottom line is directly impacted any time a machine is operating inefficiently, idling, waiting for repairs or parts to arrive.

A

lthough these types of breakdowns are dreaded they happen to even the best of equipment at any time. It is for that reason fleet operators need to attach a premium to the suppliers who are timeous, effective and easy to deal with. ELB Equipment represents a large number of various international brands in the earthmoving, construction and mining industries. With this comprehensive range of equipment supplied, the company finds itself to be in a unique situation to being a best-of-breed supplier that continually drives aftersales support to exceptional standards.

Reduced downtime Syd Rees, national parts manager, and Gerhard Botha, national service manager of ELB Equipment, are responsible for driving the company’s aftermarket

support and are very conscious of the downtime costs customers incur. With this in mind, their highly specialised team are driven to minimise downtime and ensure every interaction with ELB Equipment is done with service excellence, throughout the SubSaharan region. “Most importantly we have adopted an ethic to grow our customers’ businesses and focus on serving them in a way that is proactive in order to keep their fleet in the best possible condition to help them meet their goals. “This is achieved by supplying OEM quality parts in conjunction with ELB Equipment’s technical product support and field service teams whilst our internal workshop staff will cater for rebuilds and major component repairs that is standard throughout our branch and dealer network in sub-Saharan Africa,” says Rees. He explains: “After the handing over

Some equipment stands ready for processing at the ELB Equipment pre delivery inspection (PDI) centre in Boksburg

of the machine to the customer is where the hard work for the aftermarket really begins. It becomes important to continue the standard of service set by the equipment sales team that resulted in the sale of the equipment. For this reason, ELB Equipment specialises in supporting its equipment with a swift turnaround time. However, we always remain vigilant of opportunities that can benefit our customer base in order to assist them with the change in market demands and dynamics in reducing their overall operating costs. Our objective is to treat all customers with the same level of attention and care regardless of the scope and size of their operation.”

Service based “We strive to build long term relationships with our customers by offering competitive prices and adding more value in distribution, focusing on the things that optimise our customers’ operations,” states Botha. “We personalise our offerings and our logistical operations allow us to offer service to customers the way they like it, when they like it, where they need it, and around the clock.”

Growing together Botha concludes: “ELB Equipment’s growth is directly proportional to the growth of its customers. Therefore, the success of our customers and ELB Equipment is intertwined and cannot be separated. The better we serve our customers, the better we excel as a company.”

Editor’s comment

Put safety first S afety is one of the most important aspects that we can deal with in any industry. Whenever an accident occurs it has huge implications. To keep yourself up-to-date with the latest news on safety, Forklift SA, recommends that role players visit the Occupational Safety and Health Exhibition (A-OSHEXPO) that will take place at Gallagher in Midrand at the end of the month. According to the organiser’ of the show, no local industry is more conscious of its importance than the mining sector. Not only are hundreds of people employed in mining, there are also many potentially hazardous variables to be aware. These include noise and respirable dust to a constantly changing environment, risk of on-site injury and equipment, including robust and heavy duty forklifts and materials handling equipment. The seminars that run concurrently with the show are always interesting. Some of the topics will include: • New regulations of the OHS Act 85 of 1993 as well as other new regulatory measures including the prosecution register by Tibo Szana, chief inspector: Occupational Health and Safety from the SA Department of Labour • An introduction to environmental law and update on recent developments delivered by Justine Sweet, CEO environmentalist at Sasol SA • Ergonomics – what is this and why do you need

to adapt your business by Dale Kennedy of Ergonomax Holdings.
