Get a warm feeling with the right cold storage supports
Regulating and maintaining the right temperature and humidity in a cold storage facility is tricky. Materials handling expert Jungheinrich has introduced its new EKX Cold Store High Rack Stacker, which offers an alternative to traditional stacking units. Maryke Foulds looks at some of its core features.
Traditional temperature monitoring systems depend solely on the experience of the operator, who must be on-site to adjust and manage the whole system.
Correctly maintaining the temperature of perishable products is necessary to preserve quality and safety from the point of manufacture through the supply chain to the consumer. Failing to maintain proper shipment leads to textural degradation, discolouring, bruising and microbial growth of food products. Certain perishable foods, particularly seafood, pre-cut produce and ready-to-eat products, can become unsafe if not kept at the appropriate temperatures.
The latest generation of EKX stacker can take your warehousing operation to the next level. The unit is efficient, powerful and safe to use, and can be supplied with warehouse navigation technology as an optional extra.
The versatility of the new stacker allows it to operate comfortably in various racking scenarios. Units are tailor-made and supplied for particular cold store environments. The stacker sets new benchmarks for flexibility, ergonomics, and cost-effectiveness and ensures maximum throughput performance in most warehouse configurations.
Novel and updated technologies include energy recovery and effective energy management. This enables the operator to use the stacker for two shifts under normal operation without having to change the battery.
Once installed with integrated RFID transponder technology, the EKX Cold Store informs you that “You have reached your destination” after every journey. This sophisticated warehouse navigation directs your truck to the pallet locations with perfect precision.
MADE-TO-MEASURE COLD STORE BENEFITS:
• Robust in the cold - The stacker is manufactured using low-temperature steel for main components. It makes use of low-viscosity hydraulic oil with anti-stick slip additives and a two-fold polycarbonate cabin screen window.
• Maximum efficiency - High throughput with proven lower energy consumption. This is due to the use of synchronous motors and new and enlarged battery capacities.
• Extremely flexible - Various features of EKX standard portfolio available– a wide range of further options to customise to your operation.
• Proven technology - Intelligent RFID tracking offers all possibilities for optimal system integration.
AT HOME IN A VARIETY OF WAREHOUSE ENVIRONMENTS:
• Narrow aisle pallet racking - Available in a range of designs and configurations, the very narrow aisles of multi-bay racking systems allow the EKX Cold Store to stack and retrieve pallets on the firstin-first-out principle.
• Under pallet carrier UPC racking - A high degree of space utilisation is of importance for the efficient operation of a cold store. The UPC cold store version operates in temperatures as low as -28°C in conjunction with the EKX Cold Store.
• Powered mobile racking - Driven by motor technology, aisles are created only where access to the particular pallets are required, thus making the most out of available floor space.
• Push back racking - This is achieved through trolley cars or inclined rollers to provide high-density storage. •
