NEWMAN STUDIES PROGRAM Newman offers a wide variety of academic program options with plenty of opportunity to explore. In addition, we provide a strong liberal arts foundation through our innovative and nationally recognized academic core curriculum, the Newman Studies Program (NSP). NSP provides a powerful approach to thinking and problem solving and arms our graduates with the skills employers are looking for.

The Newman Studies Program is designed to build critical skills needed for tomorrow’s workforce while imparting knowledge across a variety of topics.

Learning Communities Learning Communities are another feature of the Newman academic experience that helps us stand out from the crowd.

Learning Communities combine a traditional first-semester experience course with core curriculum requirements, helping you instantly connect your first weeks on campus all while earning credit toward your degree.

All incoming first-year students and some transfer students will take part in one of several Learning Community options. Learning Communities allow you to quickly build relationships your first semester on campus by putting you in a group of courses with the same students, led by a professor and mentor plus a Newman student facilitator.

Each Learning Community encourages you to make connections by thinking critically with others. Learning Community options are diverse and theme-based. Students can choose which option they prefer. Into Game of Thrones? Check out Reacting to the Past and put your role-playing skills to

the test. Feeling artsy? Get your field trip on in the Art of Civilization. Going the Pre-Med route? Lab Rat Pack is for you. Other 2015 Learning Communities include Problem Solving in a Digital World and Medicine, Literature and the Human Condition.

Life on campus Newman University is situated on a beautiful, 61-acre parklike campus with 24-hour security. You’ll find plenty to do on campus, from sand volleyball to live music in Scooter’s Coffeehouse to campus-wide parties, festivals — and more!

Newman has four residence halls, with accommodations ranging from private rooms to suite-style living and multiroom apartments. Living on campus is surprisingly affordable, and housing grants are available for some students.

Meal plans for resident students are flexible to meet the needs of many.

In addition to our main dining hall, Scooter’s Coffeehouse, located in our Dugan Library and Campus Center, is a great option for students looking for a cup of coffee, a slice of pizza or a quick bite.

Cardinal Newman Scholarship – Full Tuition • 3.85 cumulative GPA • 29 ACT composite or 1300 SAT (CR+MATH) • Scholarship application due February 15 • Limited availability • Recipients must live on campus Newman Academic Scholarships – $8,000-$15,000 per year • All applicants automatically considered • Must submit official transcripts and ACT/SAT results • No additional application required

ASC Community Leader Scholarship – $3,000 per year • 3.0 cumulative GPA • Must demonstrate history of community service, leadership and volunteerism • Scholarship application, service résumé and recommendation due February 15 • Interview required • Limited availability

Need-Based Aid

(may be available to students who complete the FAFSA) Newman NEED-BASED Grants Newman University offers a wide range of need-based awards. We are committed to using our financial aid resources to help as many families as possible. Housing grants may be available to some students who plan to live on campus.

State & Federal Aid Grants, guaranteed loans and work-study opportunities provide additional need-based support from the State of Kansas and the U.S. government.

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at FAFSA.ed.gov (school code: 001939) after January 1 each year and submit additional verification documents, as requested by the Financial Aid Office.

The Newman University FAFSA priority deadline is March 1.
