From M25: Exit the M25 at Junction 29. At the roundabout take the Southend Arterial Road, A127, towards London. Continue along this road taking the right hand lane over the flyover onto Eastern Avenue, A12. At the Moby Dick traffic lights turn left onto Whalebone Lane South, A1112. Follow this road as it merges into Wood Lane, A124. Continue along this road turning left into Lodge Avenue and Academy Central can be found on your right.

The history of the site History in the making.

At Academy Central a new and dynamic era begins. Centuries ago this site was manor and farmland, in more recent years as the area and capital grew, the site became part of an expanding urban neighbourhood. Still standing is the striking building designed by architect John Stuart, the Essex county architect. Home to a Technical College in the 1930s, such was the grandeur of this landmark, it caught the attention of the architectural historian and writer Nikolaus Pevsner who travelled the country recording buildings of merit. He admired its pleasing proportions and Georgian style, attractive Flemish bond brickwork pattern

and stone decorations, and the handsome seven bays in the centre and wings. By the 1990s this was the Barking campus for the University of East London. Now the 21st Century sees a far-reaching transformation of the site.

The Listed building, with its high ceilings and many original features, will see new life as homes that incorporate a sense of history and scale. Old meets new and the past meets the future as high specification modern homes are built to complement what is there – an exciting new chapter in the history of this site is in the making.

A Wealth of Opportunities – A whole new community A new neighbourhood arrives.

An exciting new community evolves.

Academy Central is a community in the making – and not just because of its size and scale. In addition to the carefully thought out layout of buildings and homes, the individual character of each of the areas seamlessly integrate together and with their surroundings.

In addition to the new homes, key new facilities will be part of life at Academy Central. These include a new primary school that will be occupying a large site nearly

The result is reduced carbon emissions through higher levels of insulation and energyefficient boilers. The properties will also benefit from a centralised District Heating System, which offers an all encompassing solution for the supply of heat and hot water as well as additional environmental benefits.

The homes have been designed to reduce water consumption and to aid this, houses have been equipped with water butts in the gardens. A number of homes will feature ‘green roofs’. The roofs are partially or completely covered with vegetation and soil, planted over a waterproof membrane – which helps improve air quality, provides natural insulation and promote bio-diversity.

A massive tree-planting project is planned, and the Green Travel Plan will see the expansion of local bus services. The creation of ‘Green Links’ throughout the development – a series of paths and cycleways running through Academy Central and across to Mayesbrook Park, may just tempt you to walk or cycle – there is even the provision of cycle stores for many home owners.
