Life in Howden Howden is a small Market Town located 17 miles south of York, set in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The town has many fine examples of Georgian architecture, along its narrow cobbled streets and dates back to before 1000AD. The quaint Market Place boasts a selection of speciality shops, cafes and coaching inns. There is also a Library which is also home to the Shire Hall, which hosts many local events and functions. There are two supermarkets and a selection of local traders which includes a bakers and butcher.

The town itself is located under one mile from the M62 and under 7 miles from the M18. The rail station which is located in North Howden which is 1.5 miles from Howden provides direct transport links to Hull, Selby, London and Leeds there is also a regular bus service connecting Howden to the surrounding towns and villages.

The development is named after Sir Barnes Neville Wallis the English engineer, scientist and inventor who is famously known for designing the ‘Bouncing Bomb’, Sir Barnes Wallis lived in Howden while working on the R100 Airship during the 1920’s, the Airship which was designed and built under a British Government programme aimed to provide mail and passenger transportation from Britain to the countries of the British Empire but was terminated in 1931.

How to find Barnes Wallis Court Charles Briggs Avenue, Howden DN14 7FA Tel: 01430 432 152 Howden is tucked away 1 mile from the M62, if you are travelling from the east or west along the M62, take junction 37 and turn right onto Boothferry Road (A614), continue along Boothferry Road to the first roundabout where you then take the first exit onto Hailgate. At the junction with Hailgate and Treeton Road turn right continuing along Hailgate until you reach Charles Briggs Avenue. If you are travelling from the north take the A19 from York and then the A63 Hull Road, signposted Osgodby and Cliffe.

Continue along the A63 which takes you into Howden, once you reach Howden at Northolmby Street turn left at the junction onto Bridgegate and continue along until Bishopgate on your right. At the junction of Bishopgate and Hailgate turn right along Hailgate and you will find Charles Briggs Avenue on your left hand side.
