Norby is part of Thirsk, a small market town in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire and a popular tourist destination, especially to Thirsk Racecourse and the North York Moors.

The town lies in the Vale of Mowbray, 20 miles north of York. The A19 road passes Thirsk to the east linking the town easily to Middlesbrough, Sunderland and to the south, York, Wetherby and Selby.
