A historic village Henderson Court is an exciting new Assisted Living development from McCarthy & Stone, Britain’s leading retirement builder. Our development is ideally located on North Road in the historic village of Ponteland. The name Henderson Court was chosen by the local Primary School and is the name of a local family who have been in the area for generations.

Mr Henderson was a former Headmaster of the local school and his family also owned a builders yard which was located on the site of the old school kitchen.

Ponteland is situated on the main A696, 8 miles northwest of Newcastle and only a short journey from Newcastle Airport, in the southern part of the stunning Northumberland countryside.

It is thought the name ‘Ponteland’ means island and takes its name from the river Pont that winds its way past St Mary’s Church and on through the village centre. Known for its Pele Tower, St Mary’s Church and historic bridge over the river Pont; Ponteland also had a small Castle which was destroyed by the Scottish army under the Earl of Douglas just the day before the Battle of Otterburn. The Blackbird Inn next to Henderson Court now stands on the castle site and is rumoured to contain an old tunnel from the castle to St. Mary’s Church.

Everything close at hand Henderson Court is conveniently located for the villages shopping facilities. The local Health Centre and Library, as well as a post office and Chemist are located at Broadway Shopping Centre, which is just off Thornhill Road. The village centre boasts a Sainsbury and Waitrose supermarket, Opticians and several banks with a selection of eateries found just along Ponteland Road and West Road.

The nearest major shopping centres are Newcastle City Centre and the Metro Centre at Gateshead.

Ponteland Park provides the focus for many of the villages’ leisure activities, the River Pont winds its way through the park which is home to annual events such as the Duck Race and Ponteland Party in the Park. The village has numerous clubs and societies as diverse as Local History groups to Repertory Societies, and for those with an active lifestyle there is a Leisure Centre and Swimming Pool.
