ST CATHERINE’S PLACE I A RICH HISTORY

ST CATHERINE’S PLACE I A RICH HISTORY

A Crafted History St Catherine’s Place completes the streetscape of Jerningham Road, one of the most attractive of the wide, tree-lined roads that are characteristic of the area. It was laid out under the guidance and funding of The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers who developed the Telegraph Hill area in the last quarter of the 19th century. The quality of the housing, schools and the church – St Catherine’s – has ensured it remains a desirable area to this day.

ST CATHERINE’S CHURCH The church located at the top of Jerningham Road, is a much loved local landmark. Built to serve the residents of Telegraph Hill in the late 19th century and extended in the early 20th century, it was constructed in stone in the style of a much older building and contains all the features of a classic English church. St Catherine’s has a thriving congregation which, with a meeting hall and a variety of groups and clubs, remains a focal point for the community.

HABERDASHERS’ ASKE’S HATCHAM COLLEGE With its beautiful buildings on Jerningham Road built with funding from The Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Hatcham College has an excellent reputation. Its varied history has seen it as a Grammar School and a City Technology College before achieving its current role as a state school with academy status. With academic league table results among the highest in the UK it is a major asset for the area.
