An historic market town The historic market town of Whitchurch is the perfect place for a comfortable and secure retirement. Situated close to both the Welsh and Cheshire borders, Whitchurch is the oldest continuously inhabited town in Shropshire.

The town’s origins stretch back almost 2,000 years to the first century A.D. when a settlement was founded on the major Roman route between Chester and Wroxeter. The town grew and later took its name from a ‘White Church’, built from local white stone during the Norman period.

Whitchurch is notable for being the home of the J.B. Joyce tower clocks company. Established in 1690 the company is reputedly the oldest tower clock making company in the world and their clocks can be viewed from Aberystwyth railway station to the Sydney Post office in Australia. An example can be seen closer to home in Whitchurch town centre.

Whitchurch Heritage Centre situated in the heart of the town has exhibitions displaying both the history of J.B. Joyce and the towns ancient Roman past.

Everything close at hand Brookes Court is ideally situated in the heart of Whitchurch, next to Jubilee Park, less than 100 yards from the town centre shops. The main high street has a good array of independent shops including a butcher, florist and hairdresser, which are complimented by national retailers.

With its enviable rural location in the idyllic Shropshire countryside but also close to the Welsh hills, Whitchurch offers those seeking more energetic activities such as walking and cycling an endless choice of places to explore and visit.

Whitchurch is served by regular bus services into Shrewsbury, Nantwich and Wrexham, as well as services to outlying villages.

The town also has a railway station which runs regular services to Shrewsbury and Crewe and the Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central service stops in the town.
